Poor cabin conditions at the start of the cruise and the fraudulent advertising/marketing of Pitcairn Island as a port-of-call made an otherwise enjoyable cruise disappointing.

Ship tip

Maasdam is a nice sized ship with generally good facilities, but it also shows its age. The crew was almost constantly fixing and painting something, life boat 12 was out-of-service for the first half of the cruise because the lift mechanism was being repaired. Hot water was available only part time for the first few days of the cruise, the bath tub drain did not function and the shower walls and curtain were mildewed and dirty. Cabin stewards were not a attentive as on previous Holland-America and/or Princess cruises. The men's restroom on the Lido deck near the pool was very dirty and smelled awful. Holland America fraudulently listed Pitcairn Island as a port-of-call, which according to the Maasdam Captain was never meant to be a port-of-call and never will be.

Holland-America fraudulently advertised Pitcairn Island as a Port-of-call. The printed itinerary (which I have a copy) showed a stop at the island as a port-of-call from 8AM to 2PM. But according to the ship's Captain, Pitcairn never was and never will be a port-of-call because the island's facilities are not adequate to land tenders even in excellent weather and sea conditions. Holland-America's advertisement and marketing of Pitcairn as a port-of-call is completely fraudulent. Even the on-broad excursion desk showed Pitcairn as a port-of-call as late as the day after the scenic cruise around the island. Holland-America owes my wife and I (and all other passengers) a refund for the false advertising and fraudulent marketing of Pitcairn Island as a pot-of-call.

One day out of 48 and you could not find anything nice to say about anything??? Asking for a complete refund is not only totally out of line but it isn't going to happen. It appears there are some people that are not willing to enjoy 98% of a trip because of one disappointment. Either you left the ship early or you haven't finished your cruise, so how can you give a fair assessment of the entire trip. You sailed on 9/10/2018 and posted on 10/18/2018.....my tally is 38 days of a 48 day cruise. You completed approximately 80% of the cruise when you reviewed. If Pitcairn was the sole purpose then it would have been cheaper to book something direct.
