Review summary

I would enjoy this itinerary more if it was on a different ship with better service, but the ports of call were amazing.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and simple.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food in the main dining room and the Windjammer, the buffet restaurant were pretty much a repeat day after day and night after night, although the food itself was very good. And it was difficult to find anybody that made good drinks. The service in the main dining room started off poorly but after a complaint to someone in charge things improved. Service in the Windjammer Restaurant, the buffet restaurant was non-existent.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Shows, art auctions, raffles and bingo were all fun. But, each bingo session was only one game.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Our favorite entertainment is always the Royal Caribbean singers and dancers, but they did not perform a whole lot on this trip. But when they did, it was great! The rest of the entertainment line up was a 3 out of 5 stars.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Our stateroom attendant was great. The wait staff in the main dining room started off with problems but they got their act together rather quickly. The service in the buffet restaurant, The Windjammer was non-existent. And in nine days we were only offered a drink on a few occasions anywhere on the ship, regardless of how much time we spent sitting on deck or at a show or event. Sad service on this ship sailing.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
We love the design of the ship and all the ships of the Radiance class. But this ship itself had issues. These ships in the Radiance class our "glass" ships which make them special. This one, the Jewel might as well have been painted from top to bottom. All the glass and windows, except in the elevators were so dirty you could not see out. We could not sit on deck and enjoy the view because the glass was so dirty. In order to enjoy the beauty of the sea and ports you have to stand at the rail.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin is bigger than interior cabins on other ships. It was clean and comfortable.

Ship tip

Stand up for yourself and demand assistance and service.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy Did not visit port

We did nothing in this port. But embarkation and disembarking were fine.

Souda (Chania), Crete

4 out of 5
We loved this port but you have to take a bus from where the ship docks to Chania which is uncomfortable, over packed and takes 20 minutes. Lots of shopping and places to eat and the harbor area so stunning.

Mykonos, Greece

4 out of 5
This was a lovely port. The ship docks away from the hub of activity so I suggest a water taxi for $2.0 round trip t get there and back. Wander the narrow back alley streets near the port and enjoy the shops and food. We did a day trip to Delos Island which was amazing.

Rhodes, Greece

4 out of 5
Especially enjoyable if you love to shop and people watch.

Santorini, Greece

5 out of 5
Absolutely beautiful. We went to the Akatori Ruins which was a fair to good experience and next time will make it to the hot springs and volcano. But it is beautiful just sitting or should I say standing on deck and looking at the islands from the port!

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

4 out of 5
The city itself we did not care for. Very large with a lot of traffic and not the cleanest. But we went to the Acropolis which was Amazing!

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5
Loved it, loved it, loved it. We did a RC tour to the Amalfi Coast by bus and boat and then Pompeii. This shore excursion and stops were the highlight of the entire cruise.

Disembarkation

The Jewel is our favorite ship! We look forward to sailing the Serenade of the Seas April 2020 & the great Royal Caribbean staff ! It will be another great vacation. 😎

That itinerary is nice. You're correct about MDR. Once, you were always guaranteed a fabulous wait staff, now the team you get could be hit or miss. My last cruise, I just stopped going to MDR after the 3rd night of a 12 night cruise. Instead I went to the buffet which was equally enjoyable and much faster.
