Eh - Ok cruise but nothing special except not many kids. by jjlane

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Average cruise experience. Was expecting more since many people had told us I would feel like a Princess. Adult only area you must pay extra for. Did not know until we tried to go there. Very disappointed as we thought we'd be spending a good deal of our time there but we felt it should have been included - not MORE money! All in all - good time. Just don't go thinking it's going to be better than Carnival.

Excellent Alaskan cruise! by CRothert

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was a vacation we were looking forward to for many years. We really enjoyed all aspects of our trip and the staff made it even better. We really enjoyed the lodge in Dinali and wish we had one more night there. The train ride to Whittier was everything we thought it would be in more. What a great experience!

Alaska Cruise & land tour 2019 by skoolmom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was a cruise and land tour. We started out in Fairbanks at the Princess Riverside Lodge. The lodge is very close to the airport and the Riverboat Discovery Cruise excursion. Highly recommend the Riverboat Excursion. Lunch is included and was very good. It is about a 5-10 minute drive to anything else from the lodge. It is not easy to walk anywhere from this location. We found the Airlink Shuttle to be a good deal. It cost $3.50 per person or a $10.50 minimum to most downtown locations. The Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum is a must see. You do this on your own; it is not an excursion offered by the cruise line. The train to Denali was great. Breakfast was included in the 4-hour ride. The train depot is a short bus ride away from the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge. Most of the businesses here don't open until the 3rd week of May. The restaurants and the shops at the lodge were open. Recommend Lynx Pizza and Grizzly Burger. The only bus tour into the park was the Natural History Tour. It was interesting and we did get to see the mountain. We took a bus to Whittier via Anchorage. We had a 2-hour stop for lunch in Anchorage. The bus took about 7 1/2 hours total; the train takes 9 1/2 hours. The Island Princess is a nice ship. We really enjoyed all the open spaces and the views. Princess really knows how to make you comfortable. The beds are like sleeping on a pillow. Staff is exceptional. If you are looking for a relaxing cruise, this is the ship for you. We thought the entertainment and the food was the best.

Spectacular! Amazing! by troubadore

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

For my first cruise I was impressed! It’s amazing to me how they move so many people on and off this ship and stay in schedule. I enjoyed an experience where instead of me running from hotel to hotel my hotel travelled with me. I will definitely cruise again! I can see why Alaska is a different experience. There was already so much to see from the ship, i don think we were ever sailing where we couldn’t see an island, waterfall, glacier, lighthouse. Princess helped us to come back new and amazed.

Not a fan. ... by Melmoaustralia

Sail date: /

Not a fan. Staff barely smiled, middle management grumpy. Sadly, a suicide death of a crew member during cruise only made matters worse. Ship very basic. Won’t be traveling again with princess.

Breathtaking Glaciers by Axon54

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

TV experience really bad. Old TV shows repeating same episode throughout the day. Only a few choices most boring. They could do a much better job providing DVD programming that changes daily. More choices of channels and programs too. Far too much pushing of sales on-board such as jewelry and fine art.

The Island Princess has eliminated... by Boxstersgirl

Sail date: /
Ship: Island Princess

The Island Princess has eliminated public areas and added more cabins! Think this resulted in 400 more passengers. We choose this ship because we love it’s sister ship, the Coral. This is NOT the same ship as the Coral. The huge two story Universal Lounge was removed, lots of cabins were added instead. The fitness room was moved from its larger upper deck view of the sea location to a smaller inside the ship lower down deck. It was a joke and people actually paid to use fitness studios in port to workout. The Piazza does not have a La Patisserie that serves coffees AND snacks, even though the large electronic kiosks at the elevators say this. The atrium is small and narrow. The bar at the casino has no snack area unlike the Coral. Less public spaces + more passengers = no empty chairs anywhere on the ship! Not enough space for a decent Zumba Class (was taught in the Wheelhouse Lounge) or Dance Lessons, both of which HAD been taught in the Universal Lounge. Because there was only a few good public spaces at night (Theatre, Explorers, Wheelhouse), these areas were always very packed. The internet was down the last 24 hrs on the ship. The food was for the most part good although very salty. Curtis Stone had a few menu items added here and there but for the most part were missing daily like we are use to. Service in the dining rooms were extremely slow. Coffee very weak. The Pub Lunch food was small and disappointing. Specialty restaurants were good so we ate there 3 nights. The buffet was good and seemed highly attended but again hard to get a table. There was not enough activities on board nor were there any guest educational speakers on the ports from what we could tell. Daily High Tea was never listed in the Patter so we just assumed there was none, we never confirmed nor has Princess contacted us about our comments and questions. Pastries were good. Servers and staff were extremely friendly. Cabin attendant very good. The captain and cruise staff very nice. If it were not for the amazing ports we visited, this cruise would have been one of our worst. We have done over a dozen cruises with them in the last 10 years and would like to continue so I hope a representative does follow up with us.

The ports of call were... by drvalerie

Sail date: /
Ship: Island Princess

The ports of call were wonderful and highly enjoyable; however, the ship and accommodations were not. The balcony room was significantly smaller than the balancing rooms I have had on prior cruises. This included a much smaller bathroom. I am used to small showers, but this one was so small that I struggled to wash my hair without bruising my elbow on the wall. I guess I expected more from Princess than Carnival and I was mistaken.

Just finished a seven day... by KauaiKeith

Sail date: /
Ship: Island Princess

Just finished a seven day cruise from Los Angeles to Vancouver with stops in Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Astoria and Victoria. Great ports and the service onboard was exceptional. Ship is a little dated but it never felt crowded. Would sail on Island Princess again.
