Review summary

Highly recommend a cruise to Alaska on the Island Princess. The Northbound route from Vancouver to Whittier was a good selection with increasingly more picturesque glaciers as we sailed north.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Trip up from Seatac Airport went smoothly and was an easy way to travel to Vancouver. The luggage arrived on board and was conveniently placed outside of our room. There were guides all along the way to ensure that we made it on board.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food in the dining rooms, buffets and specialty restaurants were very good. Hot dogs were good. The pizzas could have had better toppings and crust. Loved the mock cocktails and having soft serve ice cream readily available.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Very much enjoyed the shows and lectures provided in the Princess Theatre. Would have liked more exercise classes - zumba was great! The lounges had good entertainment, especially enjoyed the western night with line dancing and the music contests. My family enjoyed the pools. The outdoor movies were a nice touch with blankets provided and cushions for the deck chairs.

Children's Programs

No children accompanied us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent staff, especially waiters in the specialty restaurants.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Layout and design allowed a good flow of passenger traffic. Common areas were clean and well-maintained - enjoyed the atrium area with the glass elevator and staircase with lounges surrounding the area.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin was well-maintained and clean. Would have liked to use our balcony - had wet paint when we boarded. Spacious for a mini-suite with comfortable seating.

Ship tip

Mini-suite was very comfortable and enjoyed having the fresh air from having a balcony. Highly recommend the mini-suite.
