Answer Question
Q: We are in Iona for first time in November. Reviews suggest you have to book even main dining rooms. Is this still true as they asked us what sitting time we’d like when we booked do assuming it’s now like traditional cruising? Cheers

A: Try the Olive Grove too, no surcharge but you need to book on the app. The goat's cheese & rocket pizza is worth ordering.

A: From Three weeks before your sailing date you can book times in all the bookable restaurants via your online booking page. In the main dining rooms (there are 4) you can only book a time slots for sitting down between 5:30 and 6:30. Any time after th... ese times you can either virtual queue or turn up and queueSee More

A: Iona has NO fixed dining times. There is an app, and it shows how many are waiting for all the venues. You join a queue and the app tells you when to head down to your restaurant. We’ve been on Iona 3 times, once when it was as full as it had ever be... en, we never waited more than 15 mins. Alternatively you can just go down and queue, they have two lines, one for those using the app, one for those just ‘turning up’. We’re on her again at the end of October. Hope that helps.See More

A: Thanks all for the responses. It just seems weird they asked what sitting we wanted to be on (6:15 or 8:15) if you still need to use the app etc.

A: Give the Quays on deck 8 a go you don't have to book, and it has got a lot of choices.

A: Just got off Iona a few weeks back. The Main Dinning rooms cannot be reserved. Once onboard use the My Holidays app and you can join a virtual queue for any of the 4 main dinning rooms. In my experience, I never waited more than 5 minutes to get a ta... ble. Alternatively, you can just show up to the venue and if they have space they will seat you then or provider a pager if you need to wait a few moments. If you want to eat at any of the extra pay restaurants I recommend you do it online 2 weeks before. You’ll need to pay a small deposit per person. In the case for Sindhu’s if you prebook online you also get 20% off your total bill. I do not know if the same applies to other venues.See More

A: The answer is yes, speak to the restaurant manager or in the buffet one of the head chefs and tell them what your needs are.

A: I'm both too and never found it an issue. The MDR's are far more accommodating than the buffet though as you can order your evening meal a day in advance. My only gripe is the cheese, the lactose free option onboard ship is awful so I always take my... own.See More

A: on Iona last year there were 2 formal nights a week.if you don't want to join in there is the buffet and sports bar. I enjoy formal nights as a rare opportunity to dress in my finest. its nice to see everyone make an effort. There are plenty of cruis... e lines who do not have formal nights at all. I suggest you try one if them if you really hate formal nights.See More

A: In order to enter the main dining restaurants or bars, you'll need to wear a suit and tie. My adult sons did this in July rather than buy dinner jackets etc. A gentleman waiting in the queue in front of us was wearing smart trousers, a shirt and tie... but didn't have a jacket so was turned away. Casual clothes are fine if you only want to use the buffet plus you can also buy an alcoholic drink there and in the sports bar too.See More

A: When we went on Iona for a 7 night cruise there were 2 formal nights !
Answered by dengage on November 17, 2022
A: like you I am not interested in formal nights. I did a bit of research and as far as I know the buffet plus other non fine dining restaurants such as the Olive Grove are usable by people like us. Also I believe there is only 1 formal night per 7 days... on board the Iona. P&O are Trying to remove some of the old fashioned stuffiness on board Iona.See More

Q: Can someone clarify something for me please? According to the P&O site, pre-booking for food venues opens two weeks ahead of departure, but a telephone agent has said that all food booking has to be done online. This is for an Iona departure next month. Has anyone got current (ie July 2022) experience on what’s actually happening? Thanks.

A: We've sailed on Iona twice this year, the last time being in June and you can only book a restaurant when on-board. It doesn't need to be on the app either as all 4 restaurants are freedom dining. We just queued for a table on a few occasions and di... dn't have to wait more than 2 minutes. However, this was off peak so before 6.30 pm. If you like to eat later or need a larger table due to being in a group then booking is advisable. If one restaurant is busy, it's worth asking if another is quieter because we often found this to be the case.See More

A: Currently you can not book restaurants in advance for sailings on Iona. We are going this Saturday and have been able to book excursions and entertainment but all specialty restaurants are saying available to book on board only.I have heard a number... of reasons for this from food shortages to staff issues so not every eating place can be open every night. We will see on Saturday!See More
