on Iona last year there were 2 formal nights a week.if you don't want to join in there is the buffet and sports bar. I enjoy formal nights as a rare opportunity to dress in my finest. its nice to see everyone make an effort. There are plenty of cruise lines who do not have formal nights at all. I suggest you try one if them if you really hate formal nights.

In order to enter the main dining restaurants or bars, you'll need to wear a suit and tie. My adult sons did this in July rather than buy dinner jackets etc. A gentleman waiting in the queue in front of us was wearing smart trousers, a shirt and tie but didn't have a jacket so was turned away. Casual clothes are fine if you only want to use the buffet plus you can also buy an alcoholic drink there and in the sports bar too.

like you I am not interested in formal nights. I did a bit of research and as far as I know the buffet plus other non fine dining restaurants such as the Olive Grove are usable by people like us. Also I believe there is only 1 formal night per 7 days on board the Iona. P&O are Trying to remove some of the old fashioned stuffiness on board Iona.
