We've sailed on Iona twice this year, the last time being in June and you can only book a restaurant when on-board. It doesn't need to be on the app either as all 4 restaurants are freedom dining. We just queued for a table on a few occasions and didn't have to wait more than 2 minutes. However, this was off peak so before 6.30 pm. If you like to eat later or need a larger table due to being in a group then booking is advisable. If one restaurant is busy, it's worth asking if another is quieter because we often found this to be the case.

Currently you can not book restaurants in advance for sailings on Iona. We are going this Saturday and have been able to book excursions and entertainment but all specialty restaurants are saying available to book on board only.I have heard a number of reasons for this from food shortages to staff issues so not every eating place can be open every night. We will see on Saturday!
