Freedom of the Seas by hrconn6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The Ship was AWESOME. Very clean, room were very comfortable. Not happy with everything on the ship being a extra charge. They should go up on prices and let cup cakes, ice cream, and coke products be free. Adding the gratuity to your sea pass card stinks. It's a gratuity you should be able to tip on the service you get, it shouldn't be mandatory. If they don't collect enough money to pay the help they should add it to the price of the cruise. Also, the food gets very old fast need to change it up day after day same old broiler food or pasta not everybody likes pasta "yuk yuk". Every time we went to port we had to hurry because the ship didn't stay there very long it made your time on shore exhausting and rushed. I most likely would go RC again but not this same cruise to much sea time.

Friendly Staff = Good Time by beamit2me

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Freedom of the Seas is a beautiful ship with many activities choices for all age groups.  I am 82 traveling with my family.  The ship was easy to navigate once I figured out the layout.  The staff in the Windjammer and the Dining room at late seating were so helpful and sincerely nice people.  The good was always good in all areas of the ship.  I had a mechanical problem with my walker and asked my room steward Richard who was in charge of my room, cabin 3554 if he could find someone to fix it.  He accepted the challenge willingly and fixed it better than new!  He saved my cruise experience.  Thank you Richard and Thank you Royal Caribbean for an outstanding vacation.

Freedom of the Seas is a great ship. by jkroad

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a great cruise that we took to enjoy the ship more than the stops.  We only ever got off for a few hours and enjoyed the ship and balcony room, the rest of the time.  We noticed that the crew was very happy to work on this ship and said multiple times that many had worked on others, but it was not as nice as the Freedom of the Seas and the Captain's management team.  Things were not always perfectly running, but anytime there was a maintenance issue it was resolved in hours.  The Cruise Director also was very entertaining all the time.

We called this imported Jamaica, since this was the nicest part of the island we could see from the ship.  Many locals worked these shops and it was very nice, clean and safe.

Best Vacation Ever! by jmoore11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My wife and I went for our honeymoon and we had a blast! It was our first cruise and we will definitely look to cruise again. The cruise was great because my wife likes to hang out by the beach and I like to be active and do things. The cruise was able to accommodate both of our needs. The service on the ship was excellent! The ship was clean and you can tell that the employees care about their jobs. The food was excellent! We went to Chops Grille and had the best steak ever! Make sure you do shore excursions, especially in Jamaica. There is not a whole lot to do in Jamaica unless you do a shore excursion. Royal Caribbean and their staff are top notch!

Beautiful ship, BUT... by SunPRN

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We were very excited about our first Royal Caribbean cruise, and were not disappointed in this beautiful ship with so many amenities, however we had a few bad experiences. We booked our shore excursions on the first full day on the ship, and the staff booked us on the wrong excursion. Instead of a catamaran/snorkel tour we got a bus tour with a beach stop. Ruined the entire day! All because they had the same number, just one had letters also. We wrote the correct code down, but in haste the rep booked the wrong one. The staff were very friendly and pleasant, but guest services sent a note to our cabin three nights in a row stating our credit card could not be authorized, so we were stressed about what could have possibly gone wrong, stood in line three nights in a row at the guest services desk only to be told everything was fine. GRRRR!!! And then, while the dining staff were excellent, we had to send food back on more than one occasion because it was cold. We are not picky people, but these annoyances really took a toll on our enjoyment factor. Never had any problems with the 8 Carnival cruises I have taken.

Service Excellent; Food Good, but Not Great by EagleMama

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Windjammer and Dining Room food was sub par and reminded me and my husband of a Golden Corral buffet. As such, we had to upgrade to a premium dining package ($280 for both of us for the week) so we could eat at the better restaurants every night.

However, the staff was amazing. In regards to service:

The dining staff: Elvira in Leonardo's, Bien Bayais, Michael Luna, Toma Kusic, Amanda Frederick, and Greggie in Chomps. I could not believe how much they remembered about us and our preferences and/or went above and beyond to exceed our expectations.

Room Steward: Iwayan Panca Adnyana absolutely thrilled us with his greetings in the hall and towel creations. Additonally, there were times when we left for a short period (didn't put the make up the room sign out) and would come back to an emptied trash can, made bed, and/or replaced towels. He was spectacular.

Best entertainment of all the cruises we have been on-great ice show.

The crew is excellent, food is good however be prepared to be "nickel and dimed" Lots of things offered for an additional fee. Rather just pay up front

Ship needs upgraded by bearpatti

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Nice cruise, throughly enjoyed myself.  Room was nice, mirror in bathroom was peeling.  Great room steward.  Disappointed when compared to my last Royal Caribbean Cruise in 2006. No ice or fruit sculptures.  Food didn't seem as high a quality as last time either.

My Cruise by jlbgolf

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We thoroughly enjoyed the entire cruise and would certainly recommend it to others.  The only issue we had - which has still not been rectified - is one in which offered paid gratuities as a part of the benefits of booking the cruise through them.  We were required to pre-pay the gratuities prior to sailing since we requested My Time Dining, but we were assured that a credit for $168 would be applied to our onboard account at the time of boarding.  Unfortunately, the $168 credit never appeared on our account.  When I contacted by phone on 05/17/2015 after disembarking from the ship, I spoke with Chris who advised the $168 credit would be applied to my AMEX card within 7 to 10 days; as of today, it has not been credited.  This was our only disappointment with the entire experience; we hope it will be handled ASAP.  Thank you.

Disappointing cruise by rartinger

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We were disappoint with our cruise.  This was our first cruise on Royal Caribbean and our experience is that Holland American and Celebrity do a much better job.  The quality of the food was fair including the variety and the dining room staff needed much more help. TV viewing on the ship was very limited in English.  This is the first time we cruised in over 20 cruises where a chocolate was not placed in our pillow at night.  Our cabin attendant was very stingy with the bars of soap  We only received one bar of soap for the sink and one for the shower.  Good thing I brought my own soap. There wasn't even liquid body soap in the shower.

The Staff! Al the way from the Captain, his executive committee, guest services, dancers, dining room and steward were all excellent.  That is what I remember was the people; how helpful, patient, accommodating and pleasant they all were.

ENJOYED! by jj36918

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

Truly enjoyed our cruise! However, I believe we have had enough Caribbean Islands - they are all so similar. RC is a great ship! But, we also enjoy HA and NCL. Looking forward to new adventures.

Selling too much, but had a good time by aphensle

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was great, but they seem to always want to sell you on something or the next cruise. Less 'Selling' would have made the cruise so much for friendly and relaxing.   Also, more information about the ports outside of 'selling' the shore excursions would have been a lot more helpful. Other cruise lines I've used have explained what to except the area and it's people to be like rather than telling you where to go spend your money.

Twenty years later by dlellis

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My husband and I cruised for our honeymoon so decided taking a cruise was a great way to celebrate 20 years.  Royal Caribbean staff were excellent.  The ship was wonderful.  The food and entertainment was excellent. Boarding and debarking was much more involved than 20 years ago but they made it smooth and organized.  We arranged our cruise through .  The transfers for hotel and to/from the airport was easy.  My only complaints are with the stops.  Our first stop, Labadee, Haiti, Royal Caribbean"s private island, was expensive for all the activities.  I was disappointed with this.  We as cruisers were a captive audience and thus I felt they were taking advantage of us.  All water activities, zip line, water park, slide were way over priced.  Participation was low for the 4000 on the boat.  One general reasonable charge for all activities would be much better.  One last issue was with the tour in Jamaica, we did a RC tour of the falls and tubing.  The Falls part of the trip was great.  The problem came when we took the tubing trip.  The guides were nice but they took us into a part of the river that was Filthy with trash. The meal at the end was poor.  We decided to speak with RC tour rep on the boat Saturday evening.  He said it was too late for him to do anything about it despite learning others on same trip received a full refund.  RC needs to review the tours they advertise!  Out of the three tours purchased, two were through RC.  The other from Cheap Cruises in Grand Cayman.  The Grand Cayman tour was by far the best for quality of staff and of equipment.

Terrifiec weeK! by livingstoninnh

The crew could not have been better.  This was our boys (12 & 15 years old) and they were very impressed with the cabin steward & dining room staff. The bartenders & staff on the promenade were also very friendly.  Couldn't have been better!

Freedom of the Seas by thegiris

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Kimberly did a great job finding us a room on the Freedom of the Seas.  Finally did the  zip line on Labadee!  The weather was perfect and the seas were calm!  Food was excellent as usual!  Booked two more cruises for this year and next!  Only complaint was the food on the private island was horrible!  Ribs were inedible!
