Review summary

I wish we would have known that every port you go, be prepared with the local currency to pay for a taxi to get anywhere. No credit cards accepted for taxis. And once you get off the ship, you are literally attacked by the local transportation people getting you to use the taxi because they know you need a taxi to go anywhere

All the ports I've been to take US cash though how would you react if foreign visitors to the US expected places to accept their home currency?

Yeah take our advice on this, when traveling far from home, especially abroad try to use your card as little as possible. Two reasons, 1) save on processing fees and 2) to prevent fraudulent purchases. Always use cash when it comes to transportation, and research your ports prior to booking or sailing. For example if you walk out of the highly crowded areas at port, you could find a taxi for a cheaper price and don't be afraid to haggle! But not matter what use USD!

Every Caribbean port I have visited, including Antigua, takes US cash. I always take at least $ 400 - $ 500 in cash in various denominations, with plenty of $ 1s and $5s. I rarely use a credit or debit card in the Caribbean since I had multiple fraudulent charges on my card after using at a port years ago.

I've always used US currency everywhere we travel in the Caribbean.
