Review summary

This was my second time on this ship. Not as good as the first. Ship is showing its age. Food was fair. Staff service was excellent. We really enjoyed the comedian.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
I was not informed that I would have to wait for several hours in the airport before being transferred to the port. Once at the Port, getting on the ship was easy. I didn't like that they kept up selling beverage packages, dinner packages and spa packages. Not once but several times.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Wait staff was excellent. Attentive. Don't order the Ahi Tuna. They cook it like a steak. Beef was grizzly most times. Salmon and Cod were good. Pizza in Sorrentos was good. Always a long line. Windjammer always busy, hard to find seats. Mostly the same food each day with one or two changes. I know its difficult to prepare food for that many people at one time, but some foods were way over cooked or dried out.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Most activities were quite busy. (We had about 800 kids on the ship). Mostly stayed at the Adult pool, but it was also packed. Best times for the hot tubs were when we were in port.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Stage shows were great. The "Love and Marriage Show" never gets old. The comedian was excellent. Did both a clean show and an adult show. Dance parties in the Promenade were too loud. By the last night for the 70's show, not many people attended.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Cabin steward was excellent. Dinner staff was very good. All staff friendly and said hello. Photography staff was great. Good interaction with them. Even the clean up staff in the Windjammer were very good.We tried to sit in a specific area to be served by a particular waiter.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship is showing its age. A/C in our room had no adjustment, didn't work the next day and by day 4 it was still cold but livable. Others at our dining table had hot water issues. No speaker announcements worked in the cabins. None of the teak trim around the pool areas seemed to have touched in years. Only one self serve ice cream machine and when the line wasn't long, it was broken. Several times it came out as mush.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Room was nice and clean. A/C didn't work properly - no controls worked in the room. Then no A/C and finally on 4th day it worked but was still colder than we liked. Divider screens on the balconies rattled. Hard to sleep at night. Had to wedge cardboard in the panels to keep them from rattling.

Ship tip

Be patient with the crowd. There will always be rude people on board and you have to get over it. Enjoy what you can. Be careful of what you buy. Many items you can get for less on the internet. Compare booze prices. Sometimes to ship did not have the best deal.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

4 out of 5
No excursion. Waited for transportation to the ship. On return, we booked an earlier flight.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

4 out of 5
As with any port, you have to shop around for the best deals. Sometimes they are farther away from the ship.

St. John's, Antigua

Excursion was good. Did snorkling and kayaking. No much to see for sea life when snorkling. Good guides. Didn't push for tips, but I gave because they were good.

Castries, St. Lucia

5 out of 5
Long excursion, jeep tour of island and then beach. Snack was a bottle of soda or water and homemade bread. Had to spend extra for beach chairs and umbrellas. Good Guide and again to tip requests but gave for a good tour.

Bridgetown, Barbados

4 out of 5
Didn't do an excursion but took a taxi to the beach and to downtown. Very good taxi driver who gave us a tour with history.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

4 out of 5
Cancelled excursion. Informed of a taxi strike they may have an effect on excursion. Took water taxi to city. Many shops closed. Informed by locals that it was a holiday. No mention of that from the cruise line.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Took a long time to disembark. Many people not following the rules. Customs was backed up. Our disembark time was 20 minutes late. Used Porter to get through Customs faster.
