Review summary

This was our first cruise, so we started with a big one. First about the ship; it was the perfect size for us. We were not traveling with children, so we were not concerned about having a lot of high-energy activities on board. There were plenty of things to do onboard during sea days, and of course the main thing was to be out on the decks enjoying the beauty of Alaska. We really enjoyed each of the ports we visited, although we would have liked to have more time in some of them to explore a bit more. The most enjoyable for us were of course Glacier Bay which is stunningly beautiful, and then Sitka. We just really enjoyed our time there. Everyone we met in the ports was friendly and we did not have a negative encounter our entire trip. I would very highly recommend taking this cruise with Holland America aboard the Eurodam. We brough home so many wonderful memories of this exceptional trip.

The emabarkation process was easy and moved quickly.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We dined in the main dining room, Pinnacle Grill, the lido buffet and we ordered room service. We were very pleased with all of the food on board and with the options available.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
This is definitely a low-key cruise. There are activities available, but they may not appeal to a person who likes high-energy onboard activities.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The educational presentations were fabulous. We thoroughly enjoyed those. Also, the musicians were top notch. The group in BBKings was fantastic and we had a wonderful time.

Children's Programs

did not travel with children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
This is one area I would give 10 stars if I could. Each member of staff onboard the Eurodam was exceptional! They are polite, friendly, accommodating, and patient. We did not have one negative interaction with any of the staff onboard.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was easy to navigate, and everything was convenient to our room. The ship was kept in a very clean state throughout our cruise.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Our stateroom was roomy and comfortable. However, there were definitely signs of wear and tear within the room. I think the staterooms could use a make-over.

Ship tip

Be sure to pack binoculars, a good camera, and even a spotting scope if you have one. You will want to be able to see and photograph all of the wildlife you'll see on this cruise.

Ports of call

Cruise Puget Sound

CRUISE STEPHENS PASSAGE

5 out of 5
The wind was a bit rough here, so the ship was rocking more than at other points in the cruise.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
We visited Mendehall Glacier during our port visit and it was absolutely stunning. We also took the tram to the top of the mountain and did some hiking on the trails there. We had a wonderful time in port.

Cruise Glacier Bay

5 out of 5
I cannot find words to describe how beautiful it was in Glacier Bay. Be sure to pack warm clothes for the time out on deck while you cruise this area. The air coming off of the ice is quite cold.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

4 out of 5
The port area has some cute shops. We did walk into Hoonah; the people we encountered in town were very friendly. I hope that by having this as a cruise ship port the town will experience economic growth from the tourists.

Sitka, Alaska

5 out of 5
This was our favorite port on the cruise. We did the Fin Island Lodge and Boat excursion which started with a boat ride to Fin Island where we had a fantastic meal. Then we got back on the boat and went out to look for wildlife. After being dropped off in town, we walked to the Totem park and then to the raptor center. In all it was a fantastic day.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
We had another fantastic excursion in Ketchikan. We did the Zodiac boats wildlife tour. I highly recommend this excursion! It was a beautiful day out on the water.

Victoria, British Columbia

4 out of 5
The time in port here was too short to really get a feel for the city. I'd like to have had more time to explore.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was easy and moved quickly. We had no problems getting our luggage and getting a shuttle to our hotel.

I was on board the cruise just before. Agree the state rooms need updating. The raptor center was great huh?
