Holland America is a great cruise line for older passengers and those who like smaller, less crowded ships with less wait times.
Their service is mostly better than other cruise lines.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Very quick and effortless
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Pinnacle Grill was fabulous, as always; buffet was passable. We only at breakfast in dining room twice and the food and service were fine, so we don't really have comments about it.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Available activities were a nice assortment and at good times.
Entertainment
We didn't attend any shows
Children's Programs
We didn't have children with us
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Disappointing cabin stewards - first time ever. They never introduced themselves or checked in with us on the first day to see what specific needs we had. While they did come each day to clean the room, sometimes the first visit was well after lunch.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Common areas were always clean or actively being cleaned. No mechanical issues during our trip. Ship was easy to navigate.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Only negative about the cabin is the very narrow space between the tv wall and foot of bed. Room service had a tight squeeze bringing in the food tray each morning.
We didn't do anything other than go from the airport to the ship. The city of Seattle is disgustingly dirty - trash and homeless people everywhere; the miles of tent cities do not make a good impression on visitors.
The views at the top of Mt Robert's and the tramway are spectacular. Definitely recommend hiking at the top. Hike is self paced and you can do any/all of the trails you wish. The gift shop doesn't provide printed maps, but they will allow you to take pictures of the maps so you can refer to those during your hike. A few too many "cruise industry sponsored" jewelry stores. Eat at Annabelle's - it's a local recommendation that is a homerun!!
Highly recommend hiking Tongass - beautiful views and great guides. It's a bit tough for people with breathing difficulties, but worth the effort - rain or shine. No "cruise industry sponsored" jewelry stores!! Many local artists and abundant wildlife.
Again another port with too may "cruise industry sponsored" jewelry stores. If you can overlook those, it's a very cute town with many options to explore local culture. Get Dirty - do the go kart expedition for fun and awesome views. Eat at Twisted Taco - even if only for dessert.
