Review summary

I understand mother nature calls at times.  Our cruise should have been cancelled or at least a refund offered.  Instead, during the hurricane, we were re-directed to Cozumel and then had 3 days at sea.  The port fees and excursions were refunded but that's it.  I would never book a cruise to Cozumel.  I've been there 5 times already.  I felt like I was held captive and even when we made it back to port late, we all missed our flights back home but Royal Caribbean didn't offer any concessions. Not happy this time but I will cruise again.

From what she stated it sounds like the ship did not make it back in time and it caused her to miss her flight. If that is the case I would expect something too.

@onmyway Yes they have every right to be disappointed but to expect additional compensation is ridiculous. In every cruise contract no matter which cruise line it states itinerary is subject to change so going in you take that risk. Cruise line owes nothing except port fees and refund of excursions.

Jacquelythomas - Ignore all the critical comments. You planned, paid for and got excited about your vacation You have a right to be disappointed.

Sorry mother nature changed your plans.   Would you have been happier going to the planned ports and being caught in a storm ?  No matter what it is a loose loose for the cruise line.   Your cruise contract states that ports can be canceled or changed with no notice.

For getting into port late and missing your flight I would suggest non-cruise line travel insurance so it also covers flights and hotels.

You did book a cruise off of the east coast during storm season........ just saying.

I was on this cruise on these dates. I was going to write a review but your review would mirror mine almost. We also did get all of our money back for ports of call and excursions that were cancelled. I also have been to Cozumel several times and would not choose to return but it is what it is. I did make several phone calls and was also told the cruise would sail regardless, no exchanging dates or refunds. The staff seemed to be poorly trained for such a situation being they were dealing with so many upset passengers. I did feel sympathy for them because I don't think they were being managed well at all. I think I will cruise again once I get this experience long behind me.

When you sign your cruise contract you acknowledge that a change may occur. You should thank your lucky stars and the captain of the ship for keeping you safe. As far as refunds for flights, etc... well that's what optional insurance is for. Be a smart and grateful cruiser.

I'm suspicious. Of all the people I've read on the Cruise Critic Forum, you are THE ONLY person to not receive any type of concession/compensation from RCI. I don't think so.

Unfortunately, you are always taking a risk booking a cruise during hurricane season. All East Coast Florida ports were shut down and couldn't re-open till given the OK by the Coast Guard. I feel for all the cruise lines: people would be unhappy if their cruise was cancelled, and they were unhappy not cruising to places where they had hoped to go. The cruise lines were certainly in a lose/lose situation.
