GOOD CRUISE ?? by cruiselady

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

THE CRISE ITSELF WAS GREAT. PORT OF HOUSTON, TEXAS WAS NOT SO GREAT. IMO. ALL REVIEWS ARE DIFFERENT DEPENDING ON THE PERSONS LIKES AND DISLIKES. I WOULD NOT SAIL OUT OF THE PORT OF HOUSTON, TEXAS AGAIN. TOO MUCH CAN GO WRONG DUE TO THE LENGTH OF THE CHANNEL FROM THE GULF TO THE TERMINAL BUILDING. WIND, RAIN, FOG AND STORMS IN GENERAL AS WELL AS BOAT TRAFFIC COMING AND GOING INTO THE PORT OF HOUSTON. WE WERE LATE IN DEPARTING CAUSING US TO MISS ONE OR OUR SCHEDULED STOPS. WE WERE LATE IN ARRIVING WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED PROBLEMS WITH THOSE WHO HAD FLIGHTS SCHEDULED. THE CRUISE WAS VERY GOOD IN ITSELF. THE SERVICE WAS GREAT AS WELL AS THE FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT AND ONBOARD ACTIVITIES. WE HAD A SUITE C=749 AT THE REAR (AFT) OF THE SHIP. WE NOTICED A ORDER SEVERAL TIMES THAT SMELLED LIKE ROTTEN GARBAGE. ONE TIME WE HAD TO GO BACK INTO THE STATEROOM. WE WILL CRUISE WITH PRICESS AGAIN JUST NOT OUT OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.

Sailing on the Emerald Princess Nov 16 thru 23rd, 2014 by robinloveszak

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had several weather events that delayed the leaving of the ship until Monday, mostly high winds in the Port of Houston.  I believe if we planned another cruise it would not be out of Houston. But we enjoyed the cruise and even RENEWED our VOWS of Matrimony of 29 years.  The Captain performed the our  ceremony and met with and were joined by another crew member who organized the vows and also a photographer in the Wedding Chapel.  It was a small very beautiful Chapel and there were several candelabras of fresh flowers. We only had 2 extra in our party, friends that joined us for the cruise, but there was room for at least 25 to 30 people. Our cabin steward Joseph Dungan was wonderful, and our waiters from the 5:30 dinner seating  were a great hit as well.  We were unable to land in Isle of Rotan due to weather, but did go to Belize and Cozumel.  It was a great experience in both ports as we traveled by water to see the Mayan Ruins.  We snorkeled in Cozumel and had a great experience on the Emerald Princess.

emerald experience by jrff

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

we missed one of our ports and were given $12.75 in compensation. not appropriate!  the food was pretty good but never hot in the dining room. the only item served hot was the escargot. everything we ordered in the crown grill was served   at room temperature. do not waste your money dining there!                     we enjoy going to the movies every afternoon and this cruise had the worst selection ever! half the movies noone had ever heard of.

this cruise was below par for princess.

Great Cruise to get out of the winter cold deep freeze of Dec. 2013! by avidcruisegal

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The picture above is from an Alaska cruise on Princess in 2013. The Emerald ship was large enough to not feel crowded. She is a beautiful ship and very clean. The food was very good with lots of variety. We went between Thanksgiving and Christmas which was a good time  for lower cruise price and lower air fare. They had the ship nicely decorated for Christmas. We have been on many cruises and many Princess cruises. We tend to like Princess best for over all value and consistance. The bed in the balcony cabin could have been better but not bad,  probably needs to be replaced. This ship was lacking in entertainment compaired to other Princess ships we have been on but then we were in a port almost every day so the entertainment was not that important to us. The embark and disembark was easy and went well.

Pretty good voyage by Southcaroliner

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Ship was too large to be enjoyable with too much distance between various areas.    The ships crew and media were constantly selling something and insisting that they were doing everything for my good. Food was generally good but there were not enough places to sit near the buffet area.  Cabin attendents were near perfect with good service and very friendly. Shows were about average and overcrowded at some venues. Getting on andoff the ship was very good.

Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Celebrating 60 years of wedded bliss with our daughter and husband from Clearwater, FL, and our former exchange student and husband from New Zealand.  Sheila is wearing the wedding dress she made 60 years ago!  This cruise was a dream come true!  The food and service were outstanding, making us feel like royality.

10 DAY FALL FOLIAGE CRUSIE OCT. 2013 by FMFINN

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Our ship, the Emerald Princess, was a beautiful ship and very well maintained.  This will be my 6th trip on Princess over the past 20 years.  The main area of disappointment was the entertainment and lack of any interesting speakers.  The food in the main dining area was okay, however, the staff seemed to want to rush the service.  The Grill which is one of the 2 specialty restaurants was excellent.  My accompaning traveling companions, as well as myself, had a difficult time understanding serveral of the service crew members. On numerous occations while it appeared the servers were trying to do their best, it was obvious that they had not been well trained in serving or knowing much more than the basics about food details.  The afternoon tea was very disappointing in both what was being offered as well as the fact that the servers constantly reached across the tables and servered or cleared the dishes from the wrong direction almost causing several near spills.

Emerald Princess Atlantic Coastal Cruise by Leahg

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

An interesting cruise.  Disappointed in Emerald Princess, too much waiting at times to disembark and for anytime dining.  Too early for change of color in trees. Entertainment given by crew singers and dancers was not as good as I have seen on other cruises.  I found that NCL and Royal Caribbean's entertainment to be of higher quality.  Food was OK, better on NCL and Royal Caribbean.

The crew was great, by siff

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Transatlantic

The cruise was great as we didn't have jet lag back from Europe. The crew was great and the boat was well maintained. The beef was sub-par sometimes toom tough to cut. The cruise agenda was changed because of bad weather in the arctic. So we didn't go to Iceland and Greenland. I talked to the captain and he said that in the five years he took this cruise route, never could the go to both ports only one or the other. This year we could not go to either. To be fair this should be stated in literature from Princess Cruise Lines

Cuisine by gkassel

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

The cruise was as expected excelpt for the food. There was a large selection, very little of it tasty or tender. The room was adequate but the bed could have used a better mattress. The shampoo and lotion were not replaced when they were finished. The workers were polite and most of them were helpful.

Emerald Princess cruise July 17, 2013 by Retiredcruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

I have been on many cruises and would rate this one at the top. Service was excellent from first getting on the ship right down to getting off. All the ports agave a good sampling of the different countries, none of which I had been to before. We had two days in Russia and I would have been happier to have one long day there and more time in Finland and Sweden. You must take an excursion to get off the ship of buy a visa in advance so it did limit you while being in port for 2 full days. .

baltic cruise very enjoyable by Great2Cruise

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

The cabin was comfortable and the food was excellent on the Emerald Princess Baltic Cruise. It would have been good if we'd had more time in Stockholm but the other ports of call worked out very well. All in all, it was a very enjoyable cruise.

Scandinavia highlights by Oregon2travel

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

This Princess cruise hit all the important cities in the area which is why we chose it. It should have spent more time in Stockholm (4 hrs.). The ship was mostly docked a good distance from the cities, where you had to pay a shuttle or cab or bus just to get to where you could walk. Be prepared to walk a lot and on very uneven surfaces. The onboard port presenter was outstanding (John Lawrence). The movies they offered was excellent. The ship was very clean and kept up. Our waiter (traditional dining) was a bit harried and her helper not up to par. The food good most days and 3 were outstanding. Our room was supposedly upgraded although we were put down 3 decks, not the greatest. I would recommend deck 8 and above. We didn't go to any shows so can't comment about them.

food by janetnelson

The food in the Horizon restaurant was very mediocre and didn't change much from day to day (especially breakfast). The service in Boticelli was slow and not very friendly. Also, the noise level in Boticelli was very high - bad accoustics.

OK, but not great by FlFisherman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Several aspects of this cruise were good, namely: the room steward was extremely attentive; the cabin was well laid-out, everything on-board was organized. Now for the less than expected: the food, particularly the beef was not of great quality, this was even in the steak house where one paid extra; lots of items on the menu, but very few that on could say that was great; ordered Chilean sea bass one night and was served cod (I am a fisherman and yes, do know the difference); they closed the casino at 01:00 hours; the buffet style breakfast was not well organized and the placement of the various items changed daily; the price of the drinks on board was outrageous, $6.50 for a beer, 9.49 for a Margarita. This was my first and last Princess cruise, will choose one of the other lines in the future....

My experience on 10 day cruise by amanda20

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group

Very enjoyable. The casino was too much smoky, a couple of my friends got sick from the smoky room. Food was good but not great. Been on other princes cruises, food was much better. Staff was excellent, no comlaints there. Would definitely cruise with Princess again. Thank you. Barbara and John Kalkanajian

Service from Princess employees is wonderful. Princess offers a lot of choices for guests with diverse interests. Our group of four was never bored. We enjoyed sharing what we had each found on board or did off the boat. Snorkeling was my main interest and Caribbean delivered for me.
