Alaska CruiseTour - I am hooked for life by allenlidar

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Alaska is a must do. Apparently people talk about it all the time. Only way to truly see it is on a cruisetour. This multi-transport-mode method is all-encompassing and satisfies the deepest wanderlust. Do it. There is no try.

Our family of five had an amazing experience on our Alaskan cruise. The ship was beautiful and immaculate. The staff were hard-working, polite and extremely friendly. The food was delicious.

A Fair to Good Cruise, some rough spots by avizonispv

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska

A fair to good cruise with superb food and food service. The rough spots were generally with Passenger Services (Front Desk) lack of knowledge and long lines trying to access them. Also the cabins (mini suites) had broken sofa beds (in 3 of the 4 that we had) which were not repaired or replaced during the whole voyage despite daily requiests

I guess there was nothing on the ship that we disliked. We really enjoyed this cruise. Everything was great.

Princess needs to get their act together by nat8788

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Were frequent cruisers and just completed our first Princess cruise in July (2013), taking the Diamond Princess from Anchorage to Vancouver. Overall, wed say, regretfully, that the 5 star-rated Diamond did not live up to its rating. There were some areas where Princess could greatly improve. To start with, check-in was very arduous. It took 45 minutes for my son and me to check in. Once on the ship the front desk service was atrociously bad. There were no kids' amenities or family activities onboard. All in all, we probably will not cruise Princess again. They offer nothing beyond the other cruise lines, and were found deficient in a number of areas we feel are very important.

Spectacular Views by SandyG55641023

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

ship decor is dated, beds are extremely uncomfortable. The service was not good. Entertainment was average, with the exception of the comedian and the piano player who were both excellent.

Dynamite Cruise by NaomiA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: South Pacific - Australia

We recently sailed on the Diamond Princess out of Sydney, Australia. The ship was beauitful and had many dining facilities. The best was the Sante Fe Room which we ended up there frequently. The servers anticipated our needs before we asked and as they got to know us at the one table, they were more relaxed also. Loved the Movie under the stars by the pool at night. Weather was fantastic and the ports in New Zealand fantastic!

Fantastic Journey by Williamson67596

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Clean and well maintained ship. The kids zone areas were great. The kids wanted to spend time there and not with us!!!. The weather wasn't the best for movies under the stars, but the pool and view screen were great when the weather cooperated. Fitness center has good and well maintained equipment.

This was my second cruise... by vister

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska

This was my second cruise with Princess to Alaska. I think both were about the same for me. Our neighbor's brother was married on the ship and we were with a group of 20. The Penthouse Suite was very nice. We had the same one last time on the Golden Princess. We had free internet (when it worked) which is so cool. Our stateroom attendant was awesome. We did notice though that many other crew were not as friendly as you would expect on a cruise. We are really spoiled because of Celebrity though! :) They are a hard act to follow. We don't care for the buffet arrangement. Too confined and like a cafeteria. We prefer the stations that are separated. We were not impressed with the Sterling steakhouse which was their $20.00 specialty restaurant. It was set up in the buffet area! No ambiance. The food was mediocre too. We did not go to Sabatini's - the other specialty restaurant. Room service was great though. Always fast and cheerful, food was hot. The overall appearance of the ship was fine. They now have Movies Under the Stars and the Sanctuary. We were disappointed that all of the pools were NOT heated. We had some awesome weather but the pools were too chilly. I noticed only kids in them nearly all of the time. It may sound like I'm complaining a lot but really it was not bad. Just being critical in certain areas. Princess meets expectations. If you want a cruise to exceed expectations, try Celebrity.

Beautiful and wonderful experience by SusanA8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The Diamond Princess ship is a beautiful ship. Everything was clean and neat. The steward was wonderful. The waiters in our dining room were excellent. The food was prepared as if we were at a 5 star restaurant. I recommend the assigned dining room - you will like having the same staff. They call you by name and are very efficient. We enjoyed the Vivalde Dining Room. Of course, the International Dining Room can be used at any time and it was excellent too.

A Good Value but Could Have Been Better by LenB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Diamond Princess / Destination: Alaska

The ship itself was great, our cabin steward was fantastic. The suite was large, the bed was firm, everything was clean. Ship was very clean and seemed up to date. My biggest complaint was the food. Our cruise was mostly Japanese patrons, the food reflected that. Most dishes at the buffets and sit down dining were fish. What meat that was available was overcooked. We were lucky, our dining room staff (had set dining time) was very attentive but I could see that was not true for other tables in the dining room. Can honestly say that in seven days we only had one good meal, the beef tenderloin, it was cooked just right (medium rare), tastey and tender. The "Chef's Dinner" on the last formal night was a total disappointment. Everyone at our table (8) was laughing that it's time for a new chef. The ports were OK, if you can get past all the "Cruise Line" jewelry stores. Would I take this trip again? Yes. Would I go on the Diamond Princess? Jury is still out on that.
