Poor quality food in the main dining room and indifferent service made this "cheap" cruise life up to it's name. by patco32

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

First the good, the room was pleasant for and interior cabin and closet space, although not needed for a seven day cruise was plentiful.  The bath was remarkably small and it was very hard to keep the floor from getting wet and slippery when you showered.  The entertainment was typical, except they had a very good comedian one night.  The pizza bar was good, ice cream limited to 2 flavors daily and the buffet was decent.

The main dining room, especially the main courses, ranged from OK to bad.  The best meal I had was meatloaf...and that should tell you something.  The first night was prime rib.  My tablemate reported that her prime rib was not medium rare, an opinion I seconded.  The waiter said they were, no offer to take the meat (?) back.  The meat was tough, dry and their was one are that looked medium, which we both tried, it was not even the consistancy of beef.  By night three I realized beef was not an option on this trip.  Even on lobster night (which they coupled with shrimp)  I felt the lobster, while flavorful, was almost translucent and undercooked.  The deserts were the only meal highlight.  We could not get refills on tea nor could we seem to get hot coffee with our desert.

Attempting to get a wheelchair to get to the end of the pier proved another challange.  We called the front desk, they said ask when we disembark at security.  Security sent us to the front desk, the front desk said we needed a "medical" note from the ship's doctor (who was off until 5:00 pm) to get a wheel chair.  When I objected to this the clerk took off for about 15 minutes, then came back and said OK go to security.  Security then said they could take is 30 ' to the end of the ramp, but to get to the end of the pier, we would need the Port Authority and they didn't supply wheelchairs.  We gave up and walked slowly to the end of the pier.  On the way back we passed at least 15 "Princess Cruise" wheelchairs??

Disembarkation was a nightmare.  I was told by the headquarters early walk-off was at 7:30...I had tight flight connections, which thankfully I made at Long Beach airport.  I got off the ship at 8:15, 45 min. late.  My friends, whom I had driven with on departure, got off at 12:30 for a 10:15 am disembarkation.

The ports were fine, except we were in San Francisco on a Monday when almost all musuems are closed.

All told...pay the extra and take Celebrity.

Noticed a difference since last time we cruised by linkev428

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

Overall, the cruise was good...loved the ports until the last stop.  Not thrilled with Encinada.  Callifornia was great. There seemed to be less attention to detail as in previous cruises we noticed.  We were talking with our table mates and they felt the same way.  Felt that maybe since the tips were already included, they didn't need the little extra attention.  Nothing terrible but just different.

if it sounds too good to be true? by 4timecelebrity

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

it is

my family who origianlly paid for 2 deluxe balcony rooms were asked (the night before the cruise) would we like to be "upgraded" to a family suite.... for free  ???

yes , like any gulible person we jumped at the chance to expereince a suite

WRONG THING

our suite turned out to be 1 deluxe balcony room with a teeny tiny living room connecting a 4 bunk , no window room- my  room had 2 twin beds- I think they were twins ,seemed smalled - a desk and a corner area with a refrig and Tv - the balcony ? was the same size as a 1 room dexule balcony

I begged and pleaded for a room change , nope none available - it our mistake for accepting the supposed "upgrade "

no apology , we did only after I complained for 4 days ..get a room credit for $100

bhdunn cruise #5 by bhdunncruise5

Every time we cruise on Princess ships it is always the best of times. Everything is always done right the first time. The meals, the crew, the enterainment, the cleanessof the ship is alway supurb. There is one thing, We have been wondering why does the hot tub in the back of the ship always have to be for teens? We always had a lot of fun in that back tub.  Every time we are back that way, there is never any body in or around that tub.  If we try to get in it the crew tells us we are not allowed. Everything else is wonderful

Customer Service Needed by CruiserFL

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The onboard experience was a little rough around the edges.  Shows in the Princess Theatre were mediocre at best; a few good shows in Explorers Lounge.  Crew didn't seem engaged or act like they wanted you on the ship.  Automatic gratuity decreases their incentive to offer best in class customer service.  They were getting a tip regardless of the service.  Don't ask for anything out of the ordinary ... like a Diet Coke with breakfast or a black napkin at dinner.  Ship needs some TLC; grout was moldy, rooms smelled odd, missing ceiling tiles, etc.  The food was above average - kudos to the chefs.  Would not recommend this cruise line.  Heard a lot of complaining from others on the cruise as well.  Spoke with some that had only cruised with Princess (9 times) and they seemed to think customer service and quality had declined.  Really a shame ... could be so much better.  Won't be cruising with Princess.

princess cruise 2013 by GILMAN

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Cruise overall was very good.  Dining first two days a little chaotic for some reason.  Food very good in restaurants, but not outstanding, except in the Steak House, which is $25 per person extra.  Staff is very attentive to needs.  Air conditioning in room was insufficient most of the cruise, even with an adjustment by an officer of the cruise.  Shows in theatre are dated, as are the comedy acts.  Plenty of places to drink.  All ships crew were friendly and helpful.  Since destination was so far away, more time on ship than used to, but it was very relaxing because of that; no need to rush to find an excursion those days.

A oncve Grand Company destroyed by Carnival by tjecon

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

I cruised with Princess to the Mediterrainian and also Alaska in the late 1990's. WOW, I just completed a 7 day Cruise over Christmas and have absolutly nothing posative to say. They downgraded my room, they lost my luggage. When the luggage finally arrived My professional camera, neatly packed in a Professional Travel Bag, was crushed. What did they say about any of this? Not, We're sorry I assure you! They said there was nothing they could do about the room. They said they didn't know what happened to my luggage but were glad it all finally showed up. And they said I brought the camera already broken to the Cruise. Really!!!! Add to all of this my wife was 2 months pregnant and I had to cancel the 1st excursion we planned, at the Dr's request, but they insisted I write cancel on the excursion tickets by 6pm date of sailing. Well! Because they changed my room, the excursion tickets did't arrive until the 3rd day of the Cruise.

So now I'ver returned home. My camera repair is less than $100. I guess that's the best part of this entire experiance. The food quality compared to my other Princess Cruises was horrible. There are fewer waiters, less service in the Staterooms and overall a lowering of there once great service.

Sorry Princess! I've learned my lesson. You will never see me aboard one of yours or any Carnival affilite Cruise Line ever again.

Thanks for ruining what was supposed to be a great vacation!

Thank goodness for Nikki, the DJ by bimbo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Cruise ship band was terrible! Felt like we were at a wedding, listening to a cheap hired band. Yes, they actually played "Celebrate" and "We are Family"; no "Proud Mary", though. I'm sure our group was not the only one to feel that way because I saw numerous people arriving at the clubs trying to listen to decent music during the deck party where the wedding band was playing.  Unfortunately, all the DJ's and other bands were given the time off during the deck party so we were forced to listen to the weddding band. Yuk.

Princess is not what it seems by Kjs450

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group

Spent a lot of money for a balcony room for 3 adults. Got 2 twin beds and a cott. The dinner selections was not that great.I expected more for the money. Shore excursions were way to expensive. We used the local tours and had a great time for a lot less.

Experience getting onto ship was a disaster. Your management of the tsaks required that day were embarrasing. Guests should have been notified in advance that additional inspections were going to be required which would delay being to get on board.

Once we sailed the cruise was fine

Bad experience by ProfVacationer

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Transatlantic

So disappointing.  We planned for quite awhile for this trip, only to be held hostage on this ship for almost two weeks!  The captain elected not to sail across the Engish Channel due to bad weather.  However, the other ships in port sailed.  30 passengers stranded in France without so much as a dock agent to inform them.  (they arrived via ferry) Because we left late, we missed our ports.  What started as a 14 day cruise with ports in France, Spain, Portugal, the Azores and Bermuda, turned into only two ports...Lisbon and Bermuda and the rest of the time on the ship with 3000 other disgruntled passengers.  Several reprimands from the captain via PA system that people should not be posting negative things on the internet and that the big concern was to find somewhere that we could get the fuel that we needed to cross the Atlantic Ocean!  I really expected the String Quartet on board to be playing as we went down!  We have cruised on several different cruise lines before and always had the best of times.Sad

Cruise of a Lifetime by Legalbegal

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

The staff was superb. The suite stateroom steward was excellent. The Sabatini's staff every morning for the suite passengers gave 5 star service and outstanding food. The amenities for full suite passengers was fantastic, daily full meenu for room service, initial free mini-bar, free laundry service, fresh fruit everyday, free canapes everyday, fresh flowers, etc The suite accommodations were outstanding. I have some mobility issues and unfortunately had to cancel my shore excursions as Shore Excursion office said that wheelchair assistant to take me off and back on the ship could not take me beyond the pier to the shore excursion bus. What a shame! The Norwegian fjords were magnificent! Sabatini's and Crown Grill both served excellent food and service! This was a fantastic trip of a lifetime on a beautiful ship!

The new face of the non-luxury cruise by FBNDALLAS

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

When you look for cruises and compare prices Princess prices are higher but they cahigh recomendations that you will feel and see an upgradded experience. Pay more you get more, well that's out the window. No problem getting on the ship friends in room 14- 749 had to be temporarily relocated right off the smell in their room was awful (sewage smell) and the floor by the bathroom was saturated. Two days later we would feel the effect our toilets in the room stop flushing, add to that we could not dock for our first port of call. The toilet issues went on for three days. One of the members of our group ended up with the "cruise" virus. On top of that the attention to detail was not up to par neither was the menu selections in the dinning rooms. I have traveled Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruises so I can compare and this was not upscale by no means.

very disapointed by jimmie

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

On my last cruise with celebrity, we didn't pay to eat in any of the dining rooms. I feel it was an insult to have to pay cover charges to enter to get the best meals. also most of the food on the buffet was cold when we got it. They also should check out the onshore excursions they offer. We took the zoo and wild life excursion and the wild life excursion, we saw a total of five monkeys. The zoo was poorly put together and had few animals on display. It looked like princess was trying to nickel, dime their passengers for everything, including orange juice and milk shakes.

Thoroughly Enjoyable by Lovecruises30

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Once again we enjoyed a great cruise on Princess. The Mahoganay Bay port in Honduras was especially nice and well thought out. Service, food and amenities were great as we usually experience on Princess Cruises. Galveston is a welcome departure port and we hope for more cruises to originate and return there.

5th time on the Crown Princess by frozentundra

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We just came back from our 5th cruise on the Crown Princess...this time we took our son, daughter-in-law, 18 yr old Grandson & 14 yr old Granddaughter. Since this trip was over spring break....we did expect quite a few children...and we were right...but we never noticed any issues with it at all. Our Grandchildren had a GREAT time...although our Grandson was a bit disappointed that he could not go into the teen center that he had enjoyed so much on his previous cruise...even though he had just 18 the month before...they would NOT budge. We were not real thrilled with the house band...but the other entertainment was very good...especially the new Disco show and Steve Morris the comedian. We have been to all of the islands before so we were pretty familiar.....my family all scuba dives and said that Cozumel is one of the very best in the Caribbean. The staff always goes out of their way to help whenever they can. I cannot imagine anyone complaining about them. We have already booked our next cruise on the Royal Princess in 2014...we can't wait to check out the new ship.

My first cruising experience by Shayshay

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We went on the Crown Princess and they upgraded us from an inside stateroom to a partially obstructed ocean view and it was great. The boat had so many pools that you never felt crowded; we were able to find the pool for us by the second day. The excursion to the Secret River in Cozumel was my favorite, if you get a chance- go, but bring $70.00 to buy the CD of pictures afterwards; they have all been taken by them while you are exploring and the CD is catered to you with over 80+ extra shots of the caves and the beauty of nature as well as your family. The food was good and there were three buffets open so the lines were quick; the elevators were slow, but that motivated us to work our food off by running stairs. We loved the movies under the stars with our lawn chairs and blankets (not to mention the free pizza and ice cream bar by the pool). Our cabin steward was the best, ever time we left he somehow knew it and when we came back there was always something new waiting for us. Our waiter was also amazing, he made our dinners in the Da Vinci Dining Room very enjoyable. The ship was beautiful and clean and I would highly recommend the 7 day Western Carribean cruise on the Crown Princess.
