Overall a really great time. Chat with your cruise staff. They have interesting stories to tell.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation went surprisingly fast! It was less than 45 minutes from when we got in line outside the Pier terminal to getting on the ship.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
The Crown Grill was very good, as usual. The MDR was also very good, the nights that the menu suited us. The buffet was fine, really good for making salad & for fresh fruit.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Took in a couple of Trivia games. The comedienne was really funny, good clean humor. The staff put on a Klondike type show which was cute. The on-board naturalist was great…a lot of info.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our room steward, Johnar, was absolutely wonderful! Walter in Horizon Court was super sweet & took care of us. Marian, also in Horizon Court was so nice.
Prawin @ International cafe was always on top of our coffee as soon as he saw us.
Red @ Good Spiriits was amazing! He made the best Bloody Mary’s & Mudslides!
Sheryl @ Crooners was entertaining & just all around fantastic!
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The Crown is reminiscent of the Grand. Easy layout & a very comfortable ship. There was cleaning going on throughout the day, but not quite as much as there used to be.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The carpet had some wine stains from previous guests & the the cabin could use some freshening up, but there was nothing about it that wasn’t good. Plenty of room, the bed is super comfortable. And I love the balcony size on this class of ship.
Ship tip
As with any cruise…pack cold/allergy medicine & cough syrup. (Unless you plan on wearing a mask the entire cruise) If you want to eat in the MDR, make your reservations well in advance of your cruise. You can always cancel if you don’t like the menu.
I did the Raptor Center/Fortress of the Bear/ salmon Hatchery tour.
We weren’t in Sitka very long so the excursion took the majority of our time in port. But it was so worth it!
And if you’re thinking about Sitka looking like it did in The Proposal….don’t. The movie was filmed mostly in Massachusetts. But it’s a neat little town, nonetheless.
Skagway is always a favorite stop! It was ridiculously windy the day we were there, but we walked into town & stopped by the Elks Lodge (we’re members) for a couple beers. Always a fun time @ the Elks. No stop in Skagway is complete without stopping in for Alaska Fry Bread. It’s soooo good!
We walked over to Skagway Fudge & picked up some awesome fudge & fresh baked cookies. 👍🏼👍🏼
And made a 1st time visit to Skagway Fish Co for lunch. I highly recommend the King Crab roll. (Think Lobster roll only with King crab) great little place with great food!
Prince Rupert has a Starbucks in the Safeway….thats the only reason I got off the ship. But it does look like they may have added some vendors close to the dock. (Think street faire)
There were several tents set up lining the road, but I didn’t go over there, so I’m not sure what they had.
While Juneau isn’t my favorite stop when doing Alaska, it wasn’t too bad this time. We actually got into Red Dog Saloon (after not wanting to wait the 2 previous times we were up there). It was a fun little place. Then we stopped in @ Hangar on the Wharf for lunch. It was a rainy day in Juneau, but all in all, it was a good day.
