Review summary

All in all - it was a nice family vacation. It is not Disney - which is top of the line for cruises. However, I don't think you will be disappointed. We took our 21 year old and 13 year old and got them another room.

Ship tip

Make sure you take a power strip to plug in anything. There are no USB ports and only two electrical outlets in the room. The rooms are very dated. Also, take a deodorizer for the toilet. Everytime the lid is open it smells like a sewer.

We embarked from this port. We saw this on our own and visited the Sagrada Familia. You must buy tickets for this a month in advance. The beach area is very nice and we had two days here on our own.

Gibraltar (U.K.)

The cab tour they offer is the best. It is 6 passengers which is very nice. This is the best off shore experience we had.

Marseille (Provence), France

We had purchased the 4 highlights of Marseille. It was terrible. The guide on the tour bus did not point our one point of interest while driving in a big circle. We got dropped off for lunch and she said we could visit the museum. I asked what museum and was told two soap museums and she could not even provide understandable directions. You are better off to just take a cab to the Notre Dame Cathedral and then go back to town have lunch and do it on your own. No need to pay for a guide who does nothing.

Genoa, Italy

Our guide was very good. We took a boat since bus cannot get through the roads. I gave 4 stars since it is too many people. Did excursion Discovery Family Portofino Santa Margherita & Rapallo. Such a mass of people that it is too hard to do anything on own. I like to go back and visit the places on my own. They were beautiful. All in all they did a good job.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

Florence and time on your Own was the option we bought. The guide on bus was a infomercial to the most expensive jewelry and leather store in Florence. The guide for Floence was probably okay. Way too many people. We left the tour within the first 5 minutes. We had been to Florence before and had the map and knew where to go to get to the leather market and buy stuff as well as the jewelry that the tourist don't go. They keep the tourist in one area which I get - way too many people. I guess if you need a ride in to Florence you could use the bus and be there when they leave at 3:30. I think you would be better off to just take a taxi in and arrange everything before you leave on your cruise.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

We disembarked here. We did this on our own. We booked a tour of the Colosseum, The Forum and Pallentine Hill through Viator. Tour was for our kids 21 and 13 since we have done with a private tourguide one on one. I have to say 5 stars to Viator. Our guide was Barbara and we had 16 to our group. She was better than the one private guide we had 2 years ago.
