Costa Magica Trans-Atlantic November 2 by GregH6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Transatlantic

I recently returned from the Costa Magica Transatlantic sailing from Sovona Italy November 2, 2006. The crew and entertainment was the best of any ship I have ever sailed on. In particular, Max the Cruise Director ran the entertainment like clockwork. My only let down was the food. The buffet was great, however the main restaurant Portofino was average to say the least. For such a long cruise, 18 days, I would expect more from an Italian ship.

GreatPorts of call, excellent ship desig by TheresaM2

Sail date: / Traveled as:
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

We had a nice cabin with a balcony but the mattress and pillows were as hard as a rock. The entertainment was poor and amature at best. The food was well presented but tasteless and always lukewarm. Could not finish many of the meals after one bite. The one English cruise staff member that was there to assist the 70 English speaking passengers was not very helpful and appeared uninterested. Even at the Cocktail party spent her time standing outside the meeting lounge discussing things with another staff member instead of trying to mingle with the other passengers at the cocktail party. Always late when she was supposed to meet for shore excursions. Even with the shore excursions she would not assist just tell us to head down to catch the excursion and not giving clear instructions as to the deck number or offering to passengers who needed the use tof an elevatorfor medical reasons to get to the gangway.

The cruise overall was very good, except the ship was always at least half an hour late to every destination. Crew was very hardworking and helpful.

Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

This was our first time cruise and aill I can say is "WOW". the ship is very large size and very beautiful decorating. the cleanliness of the ship is somthing that it can't be imagaine. The food was good and were a lot choices ,both, in the restaurants and the buffets. the crew was very kind and if we had any problem; they were allways be ready to help us. we loved all the nightlife options. the shows were great and we enjoyed it very much. our statement was very convenient and we had a big window with a panoramic oceanviews. It was a lovely week with a lot of good memories and we definitly will back again.

Thank Goodness for the Ports!!!! by KathleenP5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

We were very disappointed in the Magica. We boarded in Copenhagen and visited Norway and the Fjords this past June. Thank goodness we were so delighted by the fjords and the ports, otherwise this would have been very unacceptable expereince. Most of the staff seemed unhappy and we had to remind them several times to get the things we needed from our Cabin Steward and from our Dining Room Wait Staff. It was a hard experience.

passengers do not matter to management by EllenW4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Transatlantic

The steward and the wait staff were wonderful, but those who managed the ship were exttremely unhelpful and uncooperative-if you could contact them. The food-not cuisine- was so so. The entertainment schedule poor and the layout of the ship confusing. It was the passengers who made the experience enjoyable.

GREAT SHIP by ElaineB4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Bermuda

I RECENTLY SAILED ON THE COSTA MAGICA. THE STATEROOMS WERE VERY NICE AND AHA D PLENTY OF ROOOM FOR ALL YOUR CLOTHES. THE CREW WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. UNFORTUNETLY, MY HUSBAND TOOK SICK ON THE SHIP AND HAD TO USE THE MEDICAL FACILITY. THEY WERE VERY NICE AND REALLY TRIED THEIR BEST TO MAKE HIM WELL, EXCEPT THE DOCTOR ON THE SHIP ONLY SPOKE ITALIAN. I REALIZE IT WAS AN ITALIAN SHIP, BUT MOIST OF THE CREW MEMBERS WERE BI-LINGUAL. I FOUND THE LANGUAGE BARRIER MADE IT DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE DOCTOR WAS TRYING TO TELL US (THE NURSE DID SPEAK A LITTLE ENGLISH AND TRANSLATED)i WAS ALSO SURPRISED THAT THE NURESE DID NOT WEAR LATEX GLOVES WHEN SHE GAVE MY HUSBAND AN INJECTION. I DID SAY SOMETHING TO HER,AND SHE JUST SHRUGGED HER SHOUDERS. THE SHIP WAS A VERY ACTIVE SHIP. SOMETHING TO DO EVERY MINUTE. THE ENTERTAINMENT WA SUPURB..BETTER THAN MOST CRUISELINES.

Worst Cruise I Have Ever Been On! by RowleyO

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cleanliness of the ship was excellent. The ports on the itinerary were good, the only problem was the times on the itinerary and the actual times in port were wrong. In Cozumel, the itinerary stated we were only going to be there 5 hours and we were there 8. So we didn't book the shore excursion we wanted because we didn't think we had the time. I have contacted Costa Cruise Lines about my cruise and have not received any contacts back.

a dissapointment by BradP2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

the ship was new and beautiful. the food was terrible. the destination of casa de campo was non existent. the only way you could get there was through the ships own excursion. the service staff was below average. all ship announcements were in seven different languages which became old after a day. by far the worst cruise experience we have ever had. costa cannot compete with any other cruise line.

A fabulous week at sea! by DavidG34

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We were a bit skeptical of cruising "Italian style" but our expectations were far exceeded. The ship was spotless and the staff worked continuously to make it a great place! All we could say was excellent! The ship was a bit confusing on the first day, but we all felt that was expected on a ship of this size and amount of passengers. The Costa staff did a great job of making this one the best vacation we have had as a family thus far. We traveled with four teenagers and they all agreed that this was an awesome week with nothing left undone. We definitely would recommend this cruise line if you are concerned with cleanliness, friendliness, and beauty! Thank you Costa!

beautiful ship / lousy cruise by BarbaraZ3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Caribbean - Western

we thought the magica was a beautiful ship but the cruise and the staff leave alot to be desired. the room was very nice and the cabin steward was wonderful. the food was ok but did not live up to its reputation but our dining room attendants were excellant. the ship is not well designed in its amenties all the pools are too small for swimming or any kind of water games none of the hot tubs were hot enough to be theraputic the video game room should not be in the same area as the casino. the smoking policy is the worst i have ever had to put up with.... the only place you can smoke is at the bar but not at the table 2 feet away in all of the lounges even the multi levels. there is only 1 upper deck for smokers, so forget about seating under the shade. if you want to smoke you have to put up with the sun and the wind. the staff was not the friendiest or the most helpful.... the bar staff is not attentive, three times the same server walked by us without offering us a drink, i had to finally get up and get my own. the casino staff is not helpful or informative .. all in all we were very disappointed with our first costa experience.

Never Again by JulieB10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Magica / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My traveling companion smokes. We found this to be the most restrictive atmosphere for smokers ever experienced. Smokers are only allowed to smoke while at the bar. This is not conducive to social behavior nor to a relaxing experience. Also, the children's video game room inside the casino is the worst arrangement I have ever seen. In addition, the evening entertainments were poorly scheduled and badly managed. For instance, once you heard one set from a musician grouping, you had heard their entire repertoire. Enjoying an evening, or enjoying several evenings in a particular locale was not possible. The cabin steward and dining staff were excellent. The dining staff was especially attentive and went above and beyond their duties to ensure a pleasant time was had by most diners.
