Lonely American on Costa by dickwoodall

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Diadema / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

The locations of destinations was fantastic but the food and overall interaction with other English speaking guests was not good. The food was a very big disappointment, types of food was limited, locations available for meals was limited and quality was VERY POOR.  Mostly frozen meats, no real fresh quality at all.  No true 24-hour pizzeria (without paying an additional amount), which you would expect on a cruise and it seemed they were pushing the "paid" restaurants versus the other food options. Will not take another Costa cruise.

Costa Diadema by batouta8780

The cruise over all was a good experience. The staff needs more training on customer service. but the over all was not bad. some ports need to be replaced with more fun ones.

My favorite part was eating all those unusual meals, such a choice.  Happy Everybody was so courteous and went out of their way to help us at all times. I was impressed with the children's programs.  The tenor singer was the best I have every heard, Fran Cobos.

Great experiance by true2lions

SadThe room attendant was exceptional.  He kept fresh towels and our room clean throughout the day.  Dinner options were fantastic.  We enjoyed foods from each place we visited.  The waiters/waitresses could have done a better job in serving us.  We always had to ask for more water and several of them made it obvious they did not want be there.  One exception was Nengah Sudana who went out of his way to keep our glasses full and even talk to us. There was plenty of activities for us to do.  We would go again

Will cruise Costa and visit .france again, despite hospitality by Romecruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Diadema / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

From check in to out, overall crew and staff are not very friendly.  Blonde haired check in lady at cruise terminal never looked at is or smiled, acted upset about our passport vis, did not tell us where to go next, when asked about giving our credit card for expenses, said to go to Guest Relations.  We went there first, Larissa was also not friendly, even rude at times, we were bothering her with our questions, so when we told her we booked the drink package online and she said eas not in their system, that we should book it again, we asked if we wouls end up paying twice, she said it was possible.  We waited, returned twice, finally, asked if we could give our credit card, she too it, but was weird she did not mention first two times we were there, I tried to ask her why, she ignored, awful service.

Bar on deck 3 service was the worse, very unfriendly bar staff, we made bets on how many mistakes they would make on our order, every single time, really makes you appreciate other cruise lines and their more friendly and smiling staff.  The lady at deck 3 bar who appears to be the head server was the worse, she would actually roll her eyes as if we could not see her, and we overheard her complain about other guests in front of us.

Our favorite, Samsara Spa, we had the best young lady give us a tour and explain the program, she was from Romania, wish I could remember her name, she was so nice, made our week special.  We booked the week spa, added facials and purchased products because of her professionalism.  .she gives the best facials, too!

Demi, our cabin steward was so nice, smiled every time we saw him, was friendly and kept our cabin clean.  We could tell that he genuinely enjoyed serving others.

Overall, seems staff are unhappy, ready to go on strike, and do not enjoy their work.  First cruise we have had this type of apathy by staff.

But, we still return to France, and we will still cruise Costa in the future.

Great choice by jocttavianiit

Excellent route and time at the ports. The ship is well, elegant decorated and very clean. My firts time experience with a full european ship, I have to said that everything is super, except when eating at the buffet, people act like the food is going to end, not Costa fault, but at the restaurant everything great. Nice cruise, I trully recommend it.

Outstanding Family Christmas Cruise by CharlesAnthony

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Costa Diadema / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

We were very satisfied with our experience on Costa Diadema . We had 2 rooms and traveled with our adult and two teenage children. The food was excellent, especially the Fiorentino evening dining, if you love Italian food this is your cruise. Even more so If you love Nutella. The guests were overwhelmingly European (probably 30% Italian, 25% French, 25% Spanish, 10% German, and 10% Other British, American and Asian). Not many English speaking guests but no problem. Nightly entertainment shows were very good, especially the Romanian acrobat/dance couple. Only complainant was the ports of Savona, Italy and Marceilles, France, not much to see. Also a change of port, stopping at Sardinia instead of Palma De Mallarca as advertised.

Good trip by blassetter

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Diadema / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Diadema was a large, newer ship so rooms were comfortable and very nice condition.    Shows were limited in variety, food was okay but not a lot of variety either.   Fortunately, the weather was only rough the first night and was smooth the rest of our trip.

They were more than willing to lose customers for 35 Euro dispute by NKurosawa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Diadema / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

The ship is new and nice, but the customer service is the worst.  There are lots of hidden charges (food service fee, cabin service fee, etc.) and they would even charge you for a tap water at the bar.   The Internet plan on the ship is a scam.  I bought 250MB Internet Package, for which I was told I could “upgrade anytime” when signing up, but they refused to honor my upgrade because I used up all the data for the previous plan.  Ok, lesson learned, so, I purchased “per minute” plan after my initial 250MB package expired.  But when I reviewed my bill at the end, I noticed that they charged me for the minutes, as well as for another data package plan concurrently.  When I took it up to the Customer Service desk, the lady said that the Internet charge is handled by a system and is automatic, so a mistake is NOT possible.  Then she started to lecture me that Costa cannot be held responsible If a customer mistakenly pushes a wrong button, or forgets to log off.  I happen to be an IT executive so I know exactly how Internet works and how data transmission is not possible after the WiFi is turned off, but she was not willing to budge insisting that system does not lie.  Such an awful experience.  This was my second Costa cruise, and will be the last one.

average cruise by notimpressed

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Diadema / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

destinations and excursions great.  Entertainment good. Food & service below average.  Dining room wait service worse among my 12 cruises.   Food was average.   Insulting that we have to pay for certain entrees in the main dining room.   Also, had to pay for pizza and ice cream.  Ridiculous! Buffet hours and food choices very limited.   Room amenities poor.  Entertainment was varied and everywhere during the evening.   We enjoyed the options.   Excursions and guides were great.

AWESOME VACATION by monanoble6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Diadema / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

FABULOUS! FABULOUS! FABULOUS! I celebrated my 50th birthday (along with 5 of my friends) and it was nothing short of spectacular. Our waiter, Deekshith Shetty went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that each of us was happy and satisfied with our dining experiences. The crew sang happy birthday to me and gave me hugs and kisses (not done in America). Our cabin was cleaned to perfection, crew members knew me by name, the shows were great and the coffee was PHENOMENAL! The ship was beautiful and the staff was very polite. I have already started recommending this cruise to other friends. LOVED IT! Thanks Costa.

Excellent new, for us, Costa ship by bob569

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Diadema / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

This was our fourth Costs cruise in the Med and it exceeded expectations in nearly every respect.  The ship was very well laid out and the flow was natural.  The rooms were very comfortable, as one would expect from a Costa cruise.  The ship is very large and in some ports the distance to the city was quite long, in one case only possible to get there by purchasing a port shuttle ticket.

Great for those on a budget by abzmom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Diadema / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

This was not a bad cruise. The rooms were compact & efficient. (Dual plugs were a plus) the service was friendly and not overly intrusive. The food was just OK. Not great. As Americans, we did not have to pay for water with meals. There were many many things that were extra. Like water, soft drinks, juice, etc. ( a beverage plan is available @ different price points) there were several alternative restraunts  for dinner, all cost extra. Trying to get breakfast or lunch @ the buffet was like hand to hand combat. It was crowded and difficult to navigate. Shore excursions were overpriced! Overall it was a good experience, but it is also a case of you get what you pay for.

A Memorable Trip by kaechung100

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Diadema / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Costa Diadema is a high quality ship and the services we received were excellent. The places we visited such as Palma de Mallorca, Rome, La Spezia, Savona, Marseille and Barcelona were all memorable stops. The weather was also nice-in the mid-60 F during the day.  Due to the snow storm in the northeast region in US, we had a hard time of starting the trip, but all in all, it was a good trip.

Costa Diadema in March by ginomu1953

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Diadema / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Positives: New ship, clean and very good service from employees. All though sometimes look stress due to the ship taking passengers in every port.

The food very good. Lunch Buffet a lot of alternatives, beef, chicken, pasta,Chinese, great desserts. Dinners good and with alternatives just in case you didn't like the menu, but no dinner buffet.

Ports great with shuttles to go on your own. Ship with mostly European's not to many English speaking passengers. Overall a good cruise!

My first and last time... by ants1980

Sail date: /
Ship: Costa Diadema

My first and last time cruising with Costa. Where to start...the service was so poor, wondering whether this is because you have to pay 10 euros service charge definitely per day so they dont feel like they need to make any effort?! Didn't meet our cabin steward until day 5 (previous 2 cruises have met them within minutes of arriving on board and they couldn't do enough) only encountered one friendly staff who was our waiter at meal times. Even at meal times there was occasion where i waited 45 mins for a drink to arrive. Also had one day where our dirty towels were left out on the floor and were not replaced and also had to remove the soap dispenser in the shower ourselves after two days of it being empty to give them a hint it needed refilling. The bar staff regularly got our drink order wrong (if they could even understand our request for two large beers!), the entertainment was so dated and mostly cringy and the organisation of bar opening times was stupid. They regularly closed the main bars with outside decks for sail offs for things like mass service...surely they could have done it before or after sail off so people could enjoy the sail off with a drink? Not sure whether its just Costa or the fact that i recently went on a Royal Caribbean cruise where the service and everything else was outstanding. I know this post makes me sound miserable but it is my honest opinion. I love cruising and just felt this really lacked! On the plus the port stops were brill and had so much fun exploring 😁

Nice enough, but not for us by dansw81

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Diadema

Overall we enjoyed the stops on this cruise, but the ship ended up just being a means to get us to each one. Normally we love our ship time too, to relax and explore the different areas on board, but not with this one. The on board experience was lacking and we would probably not book with Costa again, when there are others that offer so much more.

Beautiful Mediterranean Experience by travelwithtes

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Diadema / Destination: Europe

This cruise is a very port intensive cruise, yet, every bit of the experience was worth it! From the moment we stepped in the ship, we were greeted with a glass of bubbles. The rooms didn't take that long for them to be ready and we were enjoying our time around the ship in no time. The food at the buffet was great! If you're into pasta and seafood dishes, OMG, they did pretty good preparing these dishes. I loved every dish. In fact, I didn't have time to venture at any of their specialty dining restaurants. No need, because I have enjoyed the food since day 1. Their service everywhere that I have experienced was excellent. Very friendly staff and accommodating. The bed in our balcony cabin was very comfortable. I will definitely sail with them again.
