Review summary

Overall we enjoyed the stops on this cruise, but the ship ended up just being a means to get us to each one. Normally we love our ship time too, to relax and explore the different areas on board, but not with this one. The on board experience was lacking and we would probably not book with Costa again, when there are others that offer so much more.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Embarkation was relatively simple and quick enough in Barcelona. However, after attending the chaotic mandatory safety drill on the 1st day, we had letters sent to our room telling us we had broken the rules by not attending! When I explained to reception on day 2 that we had already been, she agreed to "update the system". We continued to get letters and calls daily, telling us to attend, it was like speaking to a brick wall.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The food was ok and nice enough, but we have had far better on other ships. The bar service in the restaurants was absolutely dire, a good 30 minutes to get a drink and on 2 occasions we were ready for desert!

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
There was literally nothing to do for adults! There seemed to be nowhere for any decent adult entertainment and even the club was hosting events like Peppa Pig at midnight. The theatre shows were the worst we have experienced and any half decent bars were not opened or closed off for events or "sales pitches". The hot tubs were also luke warm and swarming with children, regardless of the fact that they clearly state are for 16+.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
The service from bar staff was awful, often rude and abrupt as though they were doing us a favour. It was painful trying to get a simple drink for example a beer or gin and slimline tonic, they either did not understand or just couldn't be bothered. Our waiter in the main dining room was lovely and was genuinely the only staff member on the ship that had decent levels of customer service.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Overall a nice looking ship and was kept clean most of the time. Some of the public bathrooms were not checked regularly so often had urine soaked floors. It often felt crowded and noisy around the ship, but we did enjoy the outside spaces.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Although the cabin was small and a little dated for our taste, it was clean and comfortable.

Ship tip

If you don't expect too much, you won't be disappointed

Ports of call

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5
We love Naples for all it's Italian charm around the city and it is literally a gateway to some stunning places in Italy. We took a trip to Capri this time around and it was stunning.

Savona (Genoa), Italy

4 out of 5
This was a surprise for us, we got the train up the coast to Allasio, was a beautiful beach and area to wander and have lunch.

Palermo, Sicily

2 out of 5
Was nice enough, but we didn't find an awful lot to do

Barcelona, Spain

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
We needed to be off early for our flight, so chose to self disembark. We could not get a lift to take us down for love nor money so ended up dragging our cases down the stairs.
