This was my first experience with Costa. I am a frequent cruiser and have experienced other cruise lines. This was the worst cruise experience I have ever had. I will never sail with Costa again.
Embarkation

We had to wait 2 1/2 hours at the port to board the ship after checking in without any explanations. Hundreds of people kept waiting without food or water. We were not permitted to board and no one would answer any questions about why we were being detained. And the woman in charge was rude and abrasive.

Food and Dining

The only good food was in the specialty restaurant where we had to pay extra. My first (and only) night in the dining room it took 2 hours to get my entree. As I was finishing it, we were told we had to leave the dining room for the next sitting. When I said that I was just finishing my entree, the woman said it must have been because I was late to the dining room. But I had been on line to enter the dining room even before it opened. I have never been so offended in my life.

The acrobats the final night were amazing. Reminded us of Cirque de Soleil. Incredible! Other nights the selections were disappointing.
Service and Staff

Ship's personnel never smile. When senior staff pass you in the hall or on the decks, they don't even acknowledge you. Our room steward was cordial and attentive. If it weren't for him, Gerardo, I would rate the staff as poor.

Cabin / Stateroom

We came back to our room from dinner midway through the cruise to find our room flooded. We were given the explanation, "Plumbing problems". The bathroom was flooded and the carpeting throughout the room was soaking wet. It took more than 20 minutes for anyone to respond to my frantic phone call to Customer Service. We had to pack up all our belongings and be moved to another room. We were given some help to move but the only thing we were given was "Sorry for your inconvenience." Small consolation for a major disruption.
We were taken on a very bumpy open air vehicle for 35 minutes out and 35 minutes back to a place that had nothing to do. We sat for hours doing nothing until it was time to leave. The lunch was OK.
I did not do an excursion. We were there on Christmas day and shops and restaurants were open. I had an amazing meal at Margaritaville's Christmas buffet.
Unlike other cruise lines, we weren't asked if we had flights to catch, what time we would need to disembark, etc. Nothing. We just received blue luggage tags and told to be in a certain lounge at 9:00 a.m. Poorest communication about disembarkation I've ever seen. Fortunately, we had a later flight. But if what if we'd had an early flight?
I have been on sea Cruise with Costa, 3 time before, an I have always been happy about it , an I am so excited to go with Costa Deliziosa 21 Feb 2019 with my 5 sisters an husbands.
Think you maybe a little bit negative and you get what you pay for.
Sounds like your standards are way to high. If you have cruised so many time you should have been able to figure out what to do. I was very pleased with the fact that there wasn't any announcements. So go back to Carnival are we're ever you go
