The cruise was great, the only thing you have no control of is the weather. It rained and was foggy pretty much the entire time. We were disappointed to have our helicopter trip canceled for poor visibility . The only other downside to the fog is that the ship has to blow the foghorn every 10 minutes all night long. The food, staff and entertainment onboard was exceptional. I would definitely recommend Celebrity Cruise Lines.

Celebrity Solstice to Alaska by janezimmerman

The cruise ship was very nice and the stateroom were large. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We unfortunally ran into rain so our tour was cancelled and we were on ship for more days than I would of preferred.

North to Skagway by popsshot

Enjoyed the package.  Food was good, ship clean and the entertainment was what I expected.  The time in port could be improved.  We had been to Skagway and Juneau before.  We were Rving and took a boat to Juneau. The crew were friendly and accommodating.  Overall we had a great experience.

Solstice Review - GREAT !!! by davidpasik

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Fantastic Cruise, and Donnie thanks again for the hookup.  I had booked a "AquaClass Guarantee" room, since that was all that was left at a reasonable price with one week to go before sailing.  We were then happily surprised to be upgraded at no charge to a "Sky Suite", with a balcony on the back of the ship.  100 extra square feet of space made the room incredibly larger.  We were definitely spoiled with the butler service, but most impressive was the Luminae restaurant, with 5 star food and service.  Excursion wise, we took the Misty Fjords tour (Ketchikan), The helicopter tour out of Juneau that landed on the Mendenhall Glacier, and the train in Skagway.  The Misty Fjords tour was nice, and everything was beautiful, but didn't compare to the beauty that you will see when the ship enters Tracy Arms, so you might want to save your money.  Another couple told us they did the Jeep/Canoe/Salmon Bake and that sounded better, for Ketchikan.  The helicopter glacier tour was by far the best excursion of the trip.  The train was nice as well, but paled in comparison to the helicopter.  Very, very impressed with Celebrity overall as a cruise line.

Excellent balance of food and activities! by espin1212

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The food, staff and ship were exceptional! Naturalist, Brent Nixon offered tips and insightful information on Alaska before we reached each port which gave us a glimpse of the wonder to come! His lectures were very entertaining and engaging.

Mary Amanda Fairchild, a historian, was also on board, she told tales of the gold rush, the hardships, the realities and so much more.

There was so much to do on board that you could do, everything, or nothing, and still feel like you had a fantastic vacation.

Better than expected... by gmeszaros

What a great cruise... we have been on about eight cruises but never on Celebrity.  It was the best experience we had on a cruise thus far.  The bathroom in the balcony cabins were huge compared to other cruise ships.  That was worth the price alone.  The service was great and the entertainment was the best of any ship we have sailed on.

We highly recommend this cruise.  The Solstice is a beautiful ship.  The staff was always outstanding with their service.  Our stateroom was immaculate.  We enjoyed all our meals from having room service for breakfast,  lunch in the cafe on the 14th floor and dinner in the restaurant.  The lectures were informative and entertaining.  The shows were exciting and fun.  The cast was amazing with their talent.

Happy but Mislead by rlh4t9

Cheap Cruises is the only way to go when booking and I highly recommend you.  However, a couple of instances regarding Celebrity made the beginning of the cruise un-enjoyable and frustrating.  We had purchased the Celebrity Select Dining Package but were not interested in the formal nights.  Prior to sailing, we called Celebrity and were told that on the formal nights we could opt for one of the specialty restaurants and that all dining in these venues were included "complimentary" in our package.  Onboard that is not the case - felt like I was lied to.  Onboard we purchased the Premium Beverage Package.  I specifically asked the person from whom I was making the purchase if this package included items in the mini bar in our stateroom.  I was told yes, "absolutely".  Very surprised and a bit angry when we received a bill for the couple of items that we used in the stateroom.

Cruising with Celebrity through Alaska was everything we hoped for and more! by cathychuck1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Every aspect of our cruise met and in most cases exceeded our expectations. The Specialty Restaurants were excellent and provided a nice diversion from the dining room. Food quality and presentation in the Specialty Restaurants was above par and a noticeable notch up from the dining room and menu. We never once used Room Service. Staff engagement was very good and noticeably different for some in the beginning however as the 7 night cruise unfolded we found staff friendlier and more engaging. The ship and activities were very good. We loved the Glass blowing exhibits, art gallery/auctions, wine tastings, and most of the entertainment. Comedians were both great. The "Circ" like performances were great and the Solstice talent did an outstanding job. Bret the environmentalist was outstanding and obviously very passionate little out there but does a great job with keeping a listener interested, knows his stuff and is amusing to say the least. He shined through when we went Tracy Arm as we listened from our veranda his tutorial. And the Lady in Red did an outstanding job of sharing historical stories and tales of the Gold Rush era. Weather/ice did not permit us to go farther into Tracy Arm and unfortunately a tragic accident occurred in Ketchikan the week prior and no Flight Plain excursions were being offered due to the accident. We found this out through the media when we arrived in Seattle and received a note of cancellation when we arrived on the ship. The operations side of the ship is extremely fascinating, Celebrity Team in general does an outstanding job coordinating, keeping to schedule and trying to be everything to everyone which is not an easy task. Our accommodations (7350) were comfortable, clean and the veranda made all the difference in the world. That additional space made a huge difference and we would not cruise especially Alaska without a veranda/balcony. Our stewards did an excellent job; they were kind and caring as my husband fell ill and they had to adjust to him in bed for two of the days. Ship's shopping was good, casino was suitable however we did not spend  much time in there for some reason. We have always cruised Royal Caribbean and was drawn towards Celebrity because of the demographics: not too old not too young.  Felt like a hotel/resort more than a cruise which we liked. Not too many children which we really liked. Love kids but this particular cruise and time for us we were kid-free. There should be a kid-free zone upheld when in the spa sanctuary pool and area so quiet is respected and observed. Embarking and Disembarking was efficient, customs a breeze and apparent security was a priority to be upheld.  Booked through a 3rd party (travel agent) however would not do that moving forward. Not necessary nor a benefit in my mind. Perhaps if cruising International so they hep with unknowns however it appeared to me there was a gap where information did not flow through to Celebrity and I was not certain who owned our reservation. We had to go back and forth and initially we were restricted from booking excursions and upgrades from Celebrity, could not go direct which I did not like. That was my only hang up with the trip.

Solstice review by mmnakayama

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Food was excellent.  Cabin was special and all the furniture's corner were rounded which I especially liked. I came home with no bruises. Shore excursions were too expensive.  No shore explanation was given.  Customer service did not have much information. 14th floor café- there was a bar across the window which is on the eye level. You need to stretch above the bar or bend down below the bar to see outside.  You can say the same for the 5th floor theater.  Over all, it was a good cruise.

A great week in Alaska by stevebjelland

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship experience was outstanding-food, service, entertainment, were all fantastic.  We took the offboard excersion from the ship up the Tracy Arm and saw the glacier up close-the ship itself was unable to go up the Fjord due to heavy sea ice.  The towns called upon are the now typical tourist over run port calls.  The nature excursion at SkagWay we arranged thru Shore Excursions Group-including a rafting trip and flight over several glaciers, although expensive, made the entire cruise worthwhile!  It was a trip of a lifetime.

WONDERFUL VACATION by cadle19

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was an amazing cruise, I can't wait to go again! Get a balcony stateroom, worth the extra $$. Bring sunscreen and a whole lot of energy. Pack basics and a camera, comfortable shoes (more walking than I expected), and your lucky charm for use with raffles, drawings, bingo, and the casino! The different types of bread were amazing, and you could watch the chef making the dough...mmmmmm.

Good basic cruise by schundy

A very nice cruise. I was disappointed with the food and presentation were ok at best. Hard sell pitches were every where during the cruise. The highlight of our cruise was whale watching. The cruise was a nice introduction to Alaska

Outstanding--better than I expected by ma6907

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was my fist time cruising and I have to admit I was a little anxious.  I did not know what to expect or even what the words meant?  How could I pick a port or starboard side of the ship or a dining group time when I dont really know the pros or cons of each?  Well, I guess I either got lucky or Celebrity has that covered, because we had a fantastic time.  I am a foodie, so i was very concerned about the quality of the food and the quality of the coffee.  Coffee quality was outstanding--they use Lovazza (coincidentally my favorite brand).  The food was better than I can possibly describe.  We got to eat all our meals in Luminae (restaurant just for suites) and I cannot imagine a better place. Picture the single best bite of food you have ever eaten, then picture it 3 meals per day for 7 days.  It really was THAT good.  Service was outstanding and made us feel like royalty.  Oh yea, there was Alaska, too.  I will FOR SURE go again, possibly next year.

Love it! by catlin

Everything was perfect. LoveFrom the time we arrived on the ship, we were very comfortable and treated well. The ship could use an updating in the rooms and shows, but I really don't go for the room or shows anyway. Clean, great service and amazing scenery. We are so fortunate to have Alaska! No folly to me!

Alaska Solstice Cruise by dankar

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We researched Alaska cruises and determined that we wanted an upscale cruise experience. Having cruised many other times on other carriers , we decided on Celebrity . We were not disappointed. Solstice is a very well appointed and clean ship. Our aft balcony suite was better than expected. The food on Solstice is way better than any other cruise ship we've been on. The ships staff was also very much better than on any other ship we've been on. Love this ship.

Unfortunately Celebrity's service and food has steadily declined after Royal Caribbean purchased them. The ship its self was clean and spacious. The Tracy Arm Fjord and all other ports of call were fantastic. Awesome views and smooth seas.

Great by garyborowitz

Our family had a great time. From the Booking with to the end of the trip. The service was great on the cruise (Joey and Ivan the best servers) Alaska was beautiful, took over 2000 photos.  People were friendly, tours were great and the views amazing.

We got the balcony on the back of the boat so we got to see the views from right and left of the ship. If you are into photography like myself, its worth the extra price although it can be a bit cold, so bring a jacket but the fresh air makes up for it.
