We've been on several cruises and this was by far the best one! Captain Tasos and Cruise Director Steve were the best! Everything from the food to the room to the entertainment was top notch!

disappointing alaskan cruise by dermdocsd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We didn't see the glacier we went to see. The room was a premium, overpriced room with lots of overhead noise day and night. TV system is old and antiquated. Food was hit and miss. Ship is too big with too many people. Spa is overpriced especially after you pay for an aquaclass room. The trip was a bummer. We went to celebrate a friend 70th birthday but now I wish we had stayed home.

Great ship ! by gr8tfulspaz

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We loved the ship and a few of the excursions 😄. Seeing the wildlife was definitely the highlight of the trip. I kind of expected Alaska to be even more scenic than it was , so that was a little bit different than I thought it would be .

Alaska Cruise by johnbileau

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We enjoyed all of the ports of call. The ship was very clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed every meal in the dining rooms and the buffets. The only negative comment that I have is about Celebrity's website. Very difficult to navigate.

Put Alaska on Your Bucket List by michaelgilly

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Our cruise on Celebrity Solstice to Alaska was excellent. This was our (9) cruise on Celebrity and we have nothing but praise for each one. The Captain on the Solstice was so personal and made himself available to everyone on the ship. The destinations were breathtaking and interesting. My only complaint regarding this cruise was at check-in. The port was so crowded due to both the Celebrity Solstice boarding along with Royal Caribbean at the same time. There needed to be more personnel to direct people to the right boarding area and where to drop the luggage. They were certainly lacking in signs.

Great Cruise by ksredgate

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

My family of 6 (including 4 teenagers) really enjoyed this cruise.  Service was great at main dining restaurant and staff was great throughout the ship.  We went on 3 excursions and all were worth the steep price - whale watching, helicopter/glacier landing and Misty airplane (only did the airplane with the cruise).

Great ship! by haroldmerton

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We found the Celebrity Solstice to be beyond our expectations. What a lovely relatively new ship!

The staff for the most part were very accommodating however there is a language problem with some staff either not understanding English or having accents so thick that one could not understand them.  I phoned and asked about the cafeteria on Deck 14 and was told it was a "Two meat night" It took several tries for them to convey that it was open until Midnight .."too meed night".

In another instance I was looking for the place to order on ship photos and I asked four different crew members. I got three different locations and one just shrugged his shoulders and told me he didn't know. I think he just didn't understand English. The staff should all know the ship like the back of their hands.

I was very impressed with their disembarkation system. Everything went smoothly.

I should have arranged for the rental of a mobility scooter because I had to walk almost the entire length of the ship to go to the dining room. I will know for next time.

I am disappointed that they have taken the special meals out of the dining room and into the pay extra restaurants. I totally disagree in paying extra when you have already paid for your meals on the trip before you go. I just will not support this policy.

My wife was very disappointed that there was never Halibut on the menu. It comes from that area! We expected local foods. My wife was told by the chef when he visited our table that he would try and find her some Halibut but it never happened. We were however happy with the service in the dining room.

Our request for a large table in the dining room seating was totally ignored. We were given a table for two. Consequently we missed meeting new people there, something we really enjoy.

The cabin was excellent and we really appreciated the NON SMOKING policy. Our last cruise was ruined by a woman smoker who used her balcony continuously for puffing with the smoke blowing into our room. The shower was excellent. We tipped our cabin steward and waiter very well however I think the gratuities bit is overdone on Celebrity.  $13.50 per day per person plus 18% on drinks and spa and then they put envelopes in your room asking for more. It is a bit much. We are non drinkers so we tipped only those who served us on a regular basis.

I also felt the cost of soft drinks and water was excessive. There should be no charge for water - it is an essential. We bought our water on shore for $1 a bottle instead of $5 on ship plus that 18% again. I get the idea that the people who perform the service don't get much of that 18% because the spa person was expecting a tip on the $250 treatment my wife had (plus the 18% again).

It was a delight that you could actually get a seat in the theatre for the nightly shows.  This is something we are not used to.

I appreciated the wheelchair service on and off the ship.

In all it was an excellent trip. The shore excursions were pricey but we are glad we took them. We dropped about $2,000 extra on tours but it was a once in a lifetime visit and we wanted to see the sights.

I was very glad that Joan Cohen recommended this ship and we have cruised about a dozen times with this being he best. It was our second with Celebrity and we will choose Celebrity when we cruise next time.

Celebrity Solstice Alaska Cruise by gdiaz1819

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The excursions. We are an active couple and we did two glacier hikes (Mendenhall and Laughton) as well as snorkeling in Ketchikan.

Mendenhall offered the added bonus of a trek through an ice cave.

Laughton was a longer hike 6 miles round trip but definitely doable if you are in decent shape.

Alaska Journey by rshafer2255

We had a wonderful time on our Alaskan cruise on the Solstice.  We have been on the ship before, and again experienced its beauty and comfort.  Food on Celebrity cruises is always top notch; service, i.e. cabin steward, waiters, etc. always very courteous and accommodating.

Great Vacation!!!! by pykamom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

My husband and myself had a great time.  The silent disco was really fun.  Service was great!

Carla at the restaurant made sure all 10 or 12 us sat together every night for dinner.  Thanks!

Denis and Ismil were out services most of the nights.  Denis hurt his back so he did not service us later in the cruise.  Jimmy stepped in and was wonderful!

Great cruise by 2lexus

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The Solstice is a great choice.  The Captain of the Solstice does two announcements per day, very informative and a very funny guy.  The ship is exceptionally clean and service is terrific.  The Alaskan scenery is absolutely worth every penny paid for this cruise.

From a dining standpoint, the only real downside is the 24 hour "buffet" or Cafe as it is referred to aboard the Solstice is not great.  The selection was wonderful, but every meal there was cold, the only exception being the cooked to order items such as pizza, omelets, or stir fry.  And the experience of the Cafe was like a bad cafeteria in terms of crowds and rude passengers. Don't stand in the way of the mobs, they'll run you over.

The Main Dining was fabulous.  Service and food were excellent, menu choice was more limited than the buffet, but always very good choices, meals were hot and delicious.

The itinerary was a very good one.  Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and of course the Tracy Arm Fjord were spectacular.  The cruise out of Skagway is awe-inspiring!  The captain made sure we spent quality time at the glacier in the Fjord and even did 360's to make sure everyone got a great view. We had sunshine in each port, so we were lucky in that aspect as we saw mountain tops and fjords that are typically cloud covered.  All three ports were fantastic, very clean small towns, albeit with way too many jewelry stores per capita (found out the cruise lines own the jewelry stores, no wonder!).

The only downside to the itinerary was that both the cruise-line and Marriott showed the itinerary map as leaving Seattle then traveling north through Vancouver BC area and the Queen Charlotte Strait, but we went through the Strait of Juan de Fuca and out to sea instead.  No explanation, just went to sea.  We booked this itinerary specifically for the opportunity to travel next to Vancouver BC and the Queen Charlotte Strait as this was our first cruise and we wanted to get our "sea-legs" before hitting the open ocean, and we wanted to pass through that area for the scenery.

We would recommend both Celebrity an/or Marriott for booking cruises. Other than the points earned from Marriott, there really is no reason to book through them rather than through Celebrity as the prices are the same.

Overall the cruise was fantastic.

Terribly Noisy Room - Placed directly under the busiest part of the buffet! No Sleep! by sharipack05

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Your rep placed us under the busiest part of the buffet. 24/7 of rolling cars, vibrations from those carts and heavy footsteps. We literally did not sleep for 7 nights!  You are supposed to be cruise experts - you should be aware of customer complaints regarding rooms and know which rooms are better on the ship. We trusted your "experts"! We learned while on the ship that our room has constant complaints regarding the noise!  We booked this 11 months in advance so there were plenty of choices!  This was an expensive trip - the cruise costs us over $6200 and for that we had no sleep. We are extremely disappointed with your company and intend to make sure that others do not have their vacations ruined by your "cruise experts"!  Completely unacceptable !

Awesome Alaska Cruise! by GF200

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship and crew were absolutely the best! Captain Tasos was very funny and we will never forget 'doing donuts' with the ship in the fjord so everyone got to see the stunning views! Food was excellent and we were told the weather we had this last week was really great, barely any rain at all on port days.

Loved the cruise - ship, staff, excursions were excellent by LeeLcruisingfun

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This ship has a state of the art glassblowing hot shop on board with demos daily! And offers so many tours, including active ones. Wide range of ages, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, some older. Casual atmosphere and dining, no old fashioned Muzak playing with people dressed up in long gowns. Tours were easy to moderate to strenous, nice to have so many options including outdoor hikes etc. A retired Green Beret Naturalist gave daily talks on eagles, whales, orcas. So much to do each day, never had time to open a book.Happy

Nice ship, mediocre food, too many sales events by randiwent34

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Staff friendly, really enjoyed dining rm staff and rm steward was very eager to assist.

70% of "events" provided by ship were "opportunities" to buy jewelry, wine and art, none of which I am interested in.

WE PREFER CELEBRITY CRUISES by GEDUNLAP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

First and foremost, the staff on board made our trip!  Michael's Club (Sylvia & Alexandra) & Luminae (Tyrone, Yan, especially were awesome, but so was everyone else) were top of the line for service, commitment and wonderful social skills!  With so many "at sea" hours to transport back and forth, these 2 places kept us fed and comfortable.  We liked Luminae for several reasons - the staff, the food and the selective access.  As a special restaurant for our suite level, it was very much appreciated.  Our Head Butler, Jose Fernandez, was every bit a professional and service-focused in keeping us comfortable.  Our stops in Ketchikan, Juneau & Skagway were awesome.  The Captain of our ship, Solstice, was awesome - keeping us informed, taking time for us to experience the glacier, the fjords and docking was incredible.  He brought that ship in smooth as silk in 45mph winds in Victoria - and it was 1st rate.  We loved the ship and its staff.  This was our third time with Celebrity (Summit, Reflection) and the specialty restaurants were not up to par as the other two.  Silk was totally disappointing.  Truly, they were all good, but menus vs flavor just didn't mesh.  All in all, we loved our trip, from beginning to final departure.Love
