Review summary

We loved the cruise, just not the cruise line. Service really suffered, and the food was poor to middling at best. The standout service from a handful of employees and the scenery salvaged the trip.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was painless - it was very efficient, the port was easy to get to via public transportation.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Anything other than an add-on dining experience was sub par. Variety, temperature, and overall flavor were lacking, even in the main dining room. The redeeming factor was the drink package - a little pricey, but very good variety.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The pools were fine, and the hot glass offerings were great-- for an added price. Gym was spacious and the library was nice.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
As it was a much older crowd on the ship, the activities were created accordingly and were a bit of a bore. The standout group was the Lighthouse Duo who played amplified violin and cello, which was amazing.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
The kid's club facility was less than stellar, but the AMAZING staff made up for it. My kids had fun, but coming from a Disney ship in our previous cruises, it was a bit of a letdown. We did expect this to a certain extent, and are so thankful for the staff who made it engaging, despite the lack of flashy extras.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
There were a few standouts who were great, but they were the exception. Our room steward (Sid) was amazing! However, it seemed that many of the employees were getting ready to end their contracts, and you could see it reflected in their service and overall negative attitudes.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The layout was a bit cramped, and it was really easy to get turned around. They kept it pretty clean though.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
For 4 people, it was incredibly spacious with tons of storage. The shower was spacious, and the patio was worth the extra cost! Our steward kept it very, very clean and we have no complaints with his service or the room layout.

Ship tip

Don't expect good food unless you are willing to pony up and pay for the add-on restaurants.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

Ketchikan, Alaska

We did the Lighthouse/Eagles/Totems excursion and loved it. Wish we had more time in this port.

CRUISE ENDICOTT ARM & DAWES GLACIER

5 out of 5
Get the patio! My only complaint was our lovely neighbors chain smoked through their entire cruise, so the smell filled our cabin and it was a nuisance.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
We did the Mendenhall glacier and whale watching excursion. I wouldn't do it again.. it was a bit of a waste.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Wish we had double the time in this port! The sled dogs/White Pass railway were exceptional. Wish I had more time to see the town, though.

Victoria, British Columbia

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Painless- quick and easy to get off the ship and get our luggage.
