A good trip overall. Getting up close to a glacier on a cruise ship was an awesome experience! The Captain turned the ship on its axis for close to an hour so everyone could get a complete 360* view of the glacier......it was amazing!!
Embarkation
3 out of 5
The upselling of the Premium drink package by several agents before we even got on the ship was a big negative and a little over the top! This was also done by every bartender we encountered when we got on the ship during the first day. Other than that the process was smooth and fairly quick in spite of the number of people checking in.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
The food was good to excellent depending on what and where you ate. The drink situation was not good. The Bar Tenders were often rude and generally not pleasant. The beer selection was not as advertised. There were few beer choices at each bar (5 at most but advertised as 30+) and each bar had a different selection making it difficult to find your beer of choice! The beer was not very cold most of the time as well. They also ran out of Miller Lite on the second day of the cruise!
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
It was too cold to swim so we did not use the pools but they had a lot of scheduled activities / games throughout the cruise that were a lot of fun (Not so Newlywed Game, Trivia contests and other fun scavenger games!)
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The comedians were very good. The shows were ok and there was something new each day.
Service and Staff
2 out of 5
Most of the staff was ok. Room attendant (Mani) was great! The Bar tenders were a different experience!
With the exception of the staff at the Passport bar (who were great!) I would give the rest of them 1 star and we tried them all!!
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Hand railings were wiped down every day. Hand sanitizer was available everywhere! Bathrooms were well maintained. Ship was well designed and maintained.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Room attendant (Mani) was great! Cabin was adequate size and had more storage for our clothes and things than we needed which was a surprise. The bathroom was also a decent size for a cruise ship. Our balcony was very large and was great to have. Highly recommend getting a balcony for the Alaskan cruise......The scenery was awesome!! Only gave it 4 stars due to the lack of TV channels (very very limited).
Ship tip
Spend the first day exploring the ship and learning where everything is and what they have to offer.....restuarants, bars, theaters, etc.
Visited Mendenhal Glacier and went on a whale watching excursion. These were ok but took most of our time in Juneau. Would have liked to explore more things at this port.
Great port. The White Pass railroad excursion was our favorite part of our entire trip. Also did the Salmon Bake and a stop at the Red Onion (both were fun). Downtown area had a lot of great shopping.
Did the Pedicab tour. Great way to tour the city at a nice easy pace. Beacon Hill Park was beautiful! This city has some amazing gardens that you can see all while being pedaled around by the Pedicab driver!! This stop was one of our favorites.
Self disembarked so we could get to the airport to catch our flight asap. This just means that we carried all of our luggage off the ship with no assistance and were on our way!
my husband and I have done that cruise on the solstice twice, and loved it both times! We did different excursions at each stop the second time of course, except for the Deadliest Catch crab boat tour we did that twice and I would do it two more times it was so interesting so much fun and the captain and crew make it so enjoyable and entertaining and educational!
