We had a good time, but the constant upsell spoiled the mood by EpicTexan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Asia & Indian Ocean

We took this short cruise as an easy way to get out of town (we live in China) without taking a lot of vacation days.  I've been on the Millennium before for an Alaskan cruise out of Seattle about 10 years ago, so it was nice to back in a familiar place. My comments are:

Food: Average buffet, Average Dining Experience - There was plenty of food and the variety was exciting (shrimp, steak, escargot, bass, etc.) but the flavor left me with an average feeling.  The included drinks are extremely limited and there is HIGH pressure to buy a drink package from the employees - I'm assuming the employees get a nice commission or the sales manager is pushing them hard; either way it was a big put-off to be pressured so much.  That being said, I bought my drinks a'la carte and the prices were very reasonable ($6 with gratuity for a Mocha).

Entertainment: The acrobat couple were amazingand one night there was a runner up from some TV show that was also very very good.  The house dance troupe is obviously talented, but their show was boring and excessively sensual for a family cruise. We ended up leaving their first show early and skipping the rest. I would personally request more movie options throughout the cruise and more wildlife lectures (or similar type lectures).

Ports: Kagoshima was very disappointing. It was like being taken to a farm village without any tourist amenities. We also arrived VERY early (7 am), so everything was closed until a few hours before departure. Jeju was nice and is geared towards tourists with many good things to do. We hired a private car from the cruise terminal at a reasonable price (US$40) and were taken to three local destinations. (Note: The excursion packages are overpriced but obviously convenient for those that want the extra care.  For example - a one-way downtown bus transfer in Shanghai was going for US$60, but you could hire a taxi to the local subway station for US$3 and then take the nice subway into town for another US$2 ... or hire a private taxi all the way to downtown for about US$30-$40)

We'd take the cruise again, but I'd wait for the last minute deals that most of the passengers were able to get.  We paid around US$600/person for an inside bottom level room when I booked 8 weeks out from the sail date; but most of the people we talked to paid around US$180/person for an upper deck balcony room when they booked 2 weeks from the sail date. We were not offered an upgrade, discount, on-board credit, or ANYTHING to compensate for this gross price difference...this was highly discouraging and I feel like it was bad customer service from Celebrity.

Great itinerary and wonderful staff! by mlurye

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Other (Asia/Africa/Middle East)

My favorite parts were the itinerary which was very rich and educational. We also loved our stateroom and the attendant, as well as the Main Dining Room staff. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The entertainment was very good, the harmonica player from Hong Kong was exceptional, but all others were excellent as well.

Needs improvement: at the entrance to the dining room they need to encourage using of hand sanitizer more energetically, as is done on other cruise lines.

Nice combination of three countries by faithds

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Other (Asia/Africa/Middle East)

My Favorite part was seeing diverse places in Japan, South Korea and Shanghai.

However, be aware that the Chinese Government has an inconsistant, changing policy on their visas.

The staff and crew were marvelous.

On the other end, the food in the Ocean View Café; while there was abundance it was not of quality. That was disappointing. And It is a big ship but has no laundromat-that was an inconvenience.

Excellent service but food selection and qualify in main dining room disappointing by rogerarras

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Service in all dining areas and stateroom was excellent. Food choices and qualify in main dining room somewhat disappointing. Stateroom and bathroom size seemed small compared to Holland America. TV reception very poor during most of cruise.

Alaska - One of the best places in the US to visit by cutler1662

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Good ports - Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, and Hubbard Glacier were new for us - and Juneau and Skagway are good stops for any cruise.

The Millennium is an older ship - so staterooms are a little smaller than what we are used to.  Because it is smaller, hard to find a "quiet" place on the ship where you can read or relax.

We added a land tour - and that is a must.  Celebrity did a great job on this part of trip.

Up Charges everywhere you turn. by Ginger71

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

While Alaska was beautiful and that was why we took this trip, I was irritated at every turn that someone had their hand out trying to separate me and my hard earned money. Excursions were outrageously priced.  Premium price for local food (crab lunch or dinner) was unacceptable in my opinion.  Buffet was sub par. Variety of food limited.  Best part of the trip was the naturalist who was informative and entertaining. But, we were asked to leave the Cosmos lounge at least three times when we were there to enjoy the sceinery. Too much emphasis on shopping and excursions.

An outstanding cruise experience! by Cruiser51307561

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was a well-maintained, fun, and friendly cruise staff. Everyone was cheerful and polite. The food was delicious and well-presented, and the entertainment options were fun and varied. I enjoyed all of the stops and the views were spectacular. The "Naturalist" provided humorous education about the landscape and wildlife. I would definitely recommend this cruise line to anyone considering an Alaskan cruise and would be highly likely to book them again on another cruise.

Alasken experience by AussieTerry

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The fine weather throughout although unfortunately the one day of expected cruising through the glaciers was ruined by fog and mist.

Disappointed with the standard and quality of food in the Open Café onboard but main meals in the Dining Room were fine.

Some of the ports were disappointing but all worth the experience. Likewise some of the excursions were pretty ordinary.

Alaska Cruise by ScottTeising

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The Luminae Restaurant and Staff were incredible. There was confusion about whether I was to receive a free included meal in a specialty restaurant. I wasted hours going back and forth. My Butler kept saying we had a free specialty restaurant and the concierge and restaurant said no. I finally went to a lunch in the Tuscan Grill and was it was barely average compared to Luminae. Also I had the most comprehensive drink package but the bars were without Macallen Scotch on three occasions. I also wasted over 5 hours on the phone with aa. to get my packages and people correct and there were only 3 people.

Our 2nd Celebrity cruise. by jackguasta

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Found entertainment OK, but inferior to recent Royal Caribbean cruise.  Singers/dancers very good, enjoyed comic and aerial duo, but Jessie music was not appropriate match with predominant older audience.

And "Frisky Family Feud" got a bit too raunchy with director Ben not helping (repeating some of the more vulger stuff . . ie. a c--k ring, etc).

Favorites! by marciaf0904

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends

Beside the wonderful ports of call, our onboard experience was fantastic. Our veranda stateroom was well maintained---the first night we asked for ice & never had to ask again---thank you Asta! Meals were great & so accommodating. Our waiter Jimmy, his assistant Ananda & sommelier Agnelo were the best. We were part of "Jimmy's family". We love, love loved the Martini Bar--Leroy, Gemy, "Boom Boom" & the rest are the best! Tasty drinks & an amazing show---we all loved them!! We hated to go home......

Great value, great food, great entertainment. by rtstone22

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Our cabin was on deck 3, ocean view.  I highly recommend an ocean view cabin over an interior cabin.  We often watched the sunrise and porting from our cabin and enjoyed the comfortable quiet time.  The food was always delicious, serving sizes were perfect, and service was excellent.  Only down comment was the hard sell for on-board purchases for future cruises and shore excursions.  We found the same excursions at half the price ashore at virtually every stop.  High price to pay for the convenience.  Knowing that ahead made for a good journey.  Sights were great in spite of cloudy weather and occasional drizzles.  If you don't do a land portion ahead, you should definitely do the tour bus between Seward and Anchorage for the stop at the wildlife conservancy.  Sights are great on the train, but the conservancy and sights on the tour bus make this a better choice IMHO.

Celebrity Millennium Cruise to AlaskaEmba by kathyrn715

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Cruising by the Hubbard Glacier was spectacular. Words cannot describe the beauty. The beauty of the landscapes, sceneries, and sunsets were spectacular. There was plenty to do on the ship during the cruise. Food, staff, Casino, and entertainment on the ship were great.

Amazing weather by brownsfour612

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We took the 3 day pre-cruise trip up to Denali and then the 7 day cruise down to Vancouver.  We had absolutely fabulous weather the whole trip except for one day in Ketchikan when it was cloudy - but by then it was good to see what normal Alaskan weather was like!  We had not gone into this cruise with a great deal of enthusiasm, but I would say it was one of the best we've done.  Every port has something interesting and the Millennium was a beautiful ship and the staff was as attentive as all Celebrity ships.  We were Aqua and so ate in Blu - as always a pleasure.  I would highly recommend this trip to everyone, and if possible, take the pre-cruise extension - they do 3, 5 or 7 day extensions.  They are tiring as you have to be up early every morning so best to do it at the beginning of the trip so you can relax more on the ship.

Cruise was good, the process was terrible by pmichael630

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

I will never use again for a cruise.  Their advertising is misleading on what you actually receive for your purchase.  Beware of the free amenities they advertise when you book a suite!

On the other hand, the cruise itself was wonderful!
