Review summary

We will not be cruising again for a long time, maybe never. Covid made things very difficult with testing and Canadian requirements. People are not careful when they are sick, making it easy to spread communicable illnesses. We are currently sick and in quarantine in Canada for 10 days. The trip to the ER was expensive as is staying quarantined in a hotel during peak season. This has disrupted our travel for a trip we had piggybacked out of Vancouver, for which we may or may not be reimbursed. It is unlikely we will ever be back in the area for the missed trip. Too costly. Masks, vaccinations and boosters were no protection. Buses, trains and dining rooms were all filled to capacity. You save, plan and then all falls to ruin due to the carelessness of others.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
Our tour got us to the ship late. The check in person did not have a good command of the English language nor were they capable of giving us the correct directions to get to muster.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
3 stars for main dining. Food was bland and over salted. Odd combinations sometimes that didnt work well. Service was mediocre. Sommelier had no idea when to bring drinks and wine and the server was serving courses at inappropriate times as well. Tuscan Grille 5 stars. Food was amazing and service was excellent.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Did not access

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Musical was enjoyable as was the comedian. Just saw part of the magician show. It was okay.

Children's Programs

no children

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Most of the staff was very pleasant. We did have a female overseer in the main dining who was on the negative side. The rest of the staff seemed to want to please, just didn't know how. They were always happy to comply when specifically asked.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
I dont rememer the other ships we have been on so far, difficult to navigate. It seemed that you had to be on the right floor to get from one end if the ship to the other. Ship seemed to be pretty clean in common areas.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Cabin was cramped. We were always tripping over each other. Will not opt for a larger balcony again with a smaller cabin. I guess I am a nut who cleans under things. There was an old chocolate under the bed and empty medicine container under the dresser.

Ship tip

3 pieces of advice-Study deck maps so you know how to get from one end of the ship to the other. Be prepared for tours where the bus is filled to capacity and some people are sick. Bring warm weather clothing, including thermals and rain gear. Be prepared for damp chilly, sunless weather.

Ports of call

Seward (Anchorage), Alaska

5 out of 5
Kenai Fiords excursion was excellent. Captain excelled at getting us close to the glaciers and seeing wildlife.

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

5 out of 5
Capt. Theo got us close enough for some fabulous pictures. It had a very ethereal look with the blues and ice in the water.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
This was my favorite day. The Glacial Gardens were amazing. They are now my favorite gardens in the whole world. Absolutely stunning for a garden bug.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Took train up and back. Narrator did an excellent job with history. Got some great waterfalls shots and scenery.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

4 out of 5
Guide was enthusiastic and did a great job with the history and lore of the town. It was only a half a tour though as there were no performances or sharing by the locals in the cultural center that day. So five stars for the guide and 3 for what the tour encompassed.

Ketchikan, Alaska

4 out of 5
Misty Fjords tour. Good tour but liked the narration on the Kenai tour better. Maybe guide/narrator was more seasoned

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska

5 out of 5
Beautiful and unexpected. It was gorgeous seeing mountains on both sides.

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

3 out of 5
Had to cancel our last tour. Crowded buses with sick people incurs transmission of illness. We now have covid.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Total mess, with people running around in disarray. Lots of wait time as they tried to sort things out. Packed in like sardines on the van for drop off for those who tested positive for covid. Van driver must be new to the area as he pulled over multiple times, put on his glasses and read the map,

I simply love the ones who choose to cruise and then complain when they get sick... COVID IS REAL, COVID IS ON THE SHIPS, if you're afraid or high risk, STAY HOME! it's not my job to make YOU safe, self accountability!

Sorry you weren’t too happy with cruising. Sorry you got sick. However, we are in a pandemic and you knew the risks of catching Covid. I don’t know what else to say.

Thanks for the review. Cruising is not the same as it was prior to Covid and probably never will be. Covid cases are on every ship now and testing positive is possible. It’s best to cruise from a US port rather than a foreign port while Covid is still an issue.
