I was weary about sailing on the oldest/smallest ship in the fleet.
It’s very true that she doesn’t have all the newest venues and yes, she does show her age in a few areas. Having said that, we had a brilliant cruise and gained some wonderful memories, which is what it’s all about.
She has a very warm charm about her that I loved, so much so that we booked to go back on her in 2023, with a 12 night sailing around Japan.
My advice is to try Celebrity Millennium! (We don’t know how long she has left) Go with an open mind, knowing that she’s an older ship and I’m sure you will also love it.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation was a total breeze. No issues and we were on the ship with zero wait time.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We ate mostly in the main dining room, but also two of the speciality restaurants, Oceanview Cafe and the poolside Grill.
The food in the main restaurant was very good. Not the best I’ve had from Celebrity, but still good. Our servers were excellent.
We were very disappointed with the Tuscan Grill. It’s normally a favourite of ours, but the food wasn’t great and neither was the service. It was very quiet in there and it took forever for our steaks to arrive. They were completely overcooked and we left there very disappointed.
Le Petit Chef @ Quine was a really good experience and I enjoyed the meal. I do think I preferred the old Qsine though. I’m just not convinced with the longevity of the concept. I still recommend people try it though, I’ve never seen anything quite like it before!
Oceanview Cafe offered a good selection of foods. We ate here each morning for and had dinner in there on 2 nights. (We just fancied a lazy night)
Poolside Grill served up some great burgers, the fries were also good. It’s a shame there’s no chicken burgers. You could have a Turkey burger, but always had to wait for it… they would say 15-20 minutes for the Turkey, as if they didn’t want to cook it!!
As we are British, we do like an Afternoon Tea!! We went to one in the Tuscan Grille, which was excellent and found the one in the Oceanview Cafe, served each day between 4-5, to be almost as good! Don’t miss it!
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
I enjoyed using the ship’s Gym, which had a great selection of equipment and even had Peloton bikes, which I made use of.
The indoor pool was a great venue. Very calming and a nice place to relax.
We watched a few movies on the big screen at the Sun Terrace. It’s a nice area, but would have been better with popcorn and drinks service up there.
Don’t miss the silent disco! It’s great fun!
There is a good selection of shops onboard and also the best future cruise outlet I’ve come across! So many staff and great modern design.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
We went to a few of the shows in the main theatre and enjoyed the various singers around the ship. It was the usual cruise ship stuff to be honest, however I did enjoy it.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Ok, so this is where Celebrity came up tops. The crew are excellent! This is especially key, because Celebrity Millennium is their oldest ship. She doesn’t have all the funky new high tech venues of the newer ships, however her crew make her stand out with the best of them.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The ship has a bit of a retro feel to it. As I’ve said, she’s an old ship, but I do think they have maintained her well and kept her updated the best they can.
I think the layout is very good. She’s a smaller ship, so it was really easy to get from A to B. I found her to be a very clean ship, they staff were very visible, keeping her clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Good modern cabin. It’s clearly been updated recently. The bed was very comfortable and the balcony was a very good size. Bathroom was standard cruise ship design, again it’s been updated so had a modern feel.
We did have some issue with noise from the crew door opposite, which we had to complaint about. Also there is quite a big gap at the bottom of the cabin door, which lets in lots of light at night. Other than this, no other complaints.
Ship tip
Don’t miss the HeliPad sail aways! It’s a very unique experience.
Our return to cruising in December was aboard Millennium. I can’t say enough about the wonderful crew from our stateroom to the main dining room! If ever the chance, grab a sunset veranda. Our favorite new stateroom location!
I has the same feeling when I went to board Celebrity Infinity. It's wear and age was showing. (even on my balcony). I loved the small intimacy of it. I did not, however, like the how the layout. For me, there was too much navigating stairs and not enough elevators (the ones they were placed in odd places). But it was a good cruise nonetheless. And I loved Infinity's library
