Review summary

I have taken 4 cruise vacations, Norwegian in 2010, Carnival in 2013, Princess in 2014 and this one, Celebrity in 2015. I have to say the Celebrity is the worst among all!

The experience at the Guest Service desk gave me the first bad feeling. The ladies on the other side of the desk never had a smile on their faces, no greetings and no “thanks” and “good buys”. They kept the same way all over the entire sail.

I booked a balcony stateroom and an internal cabin. To my big surprise, people of internal cabin can NOT eat in the same dining room with the people who purchased balcony staterooms. If I and my wife want to dine with my daughter, we have to eat in the lower level dining room! My daughter said this is just like Tantalic, the poor cannot seat together with the rich!

I purchased a 7-day un-limited on board internet access for $198. Over the 7 days, 75% of the time I couldn’t log into the account. If I was lucky enough gained access to the server, the speed was very slow.

The breakfast and lunch options in the buffet dining room were never changed over the 7 days sail, 90% of the foods were horribly salty. The after hour food had very limited choices. There was no food after 1:00 AM. A good comparison to other cruise ships.

The ship is badly maintained. We experienced at least 5 times of elevator malfunctions. The elevator doesn’t stop at the desired level or skip the level or travel up/down without stop. One evening a loud noise came to the stateroom that we had to be moved to an empty room to get a peace of sleep. The next day we were given an option to sleep in a different room because they could not find the source of the noise.

The crew is badly trained that the room service people opened our room without knocking 3 times when we were still inside. Twice my wife was still in bed. There was no “no disturbing” door tag in the room. After I asked, the room service gave me one to avoid further embarrassing.

Not like other cruise ships, there were no free movies. You need to pay for the newer movies. The satellite TV for the free news channels was badly served. Program was frequently interrupted. The satellite tracking system is so common and less expensive nowadays. I don’t know why Celebrity cannot afford to install a better system.

If I have to say something good for this cruise experience, it is the stateroom furniture. It is nicely designed and well maintained.

Overall, this was a bad experience with Celebrity. I’ll definitely not take any cruise trip with Celebrity and not recommend to friends.

Onlyif you dont prepay gratuities.

kerrilacey24    9 years ago

You get what you pay for If you buy tickets to a concert you get the seat you pay for. Same as a restaurant pay extra if you want the experience

Lupinsmum    9 years ago

They do not seat you by cabins the upper dining room is for select dining unless you are in a suite or Aqua class and they have a separate restaurant. When you book your cruise you choose what dining arrangement you want you are never seated by cabins that is a lie.

I have never cruised celebrity. Never will. I was comment g on the original comment. I guess I'm wrong that's fine. but read the original. moment and the one following it.

sorry, I don't sail Celebrity.

cruisemad    9 years ago

Is this the celebrity millennium we are talking about .? As I'm considering it for next cruise

mermen    9 years ago

Thanks and you your hubby as well. Looking forward to trying Luminae. You've got the tail end of the season, and a great cruise. Hope you post some pics on cruisecritic.com. Staying at the Pan Pacific and will watch you sail into the harbor Sarah and Chris! We will toast you both too. Cheers!

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

Yes mermen! unfortunately looks like we will be missing you by one day as we disembark on the 11th and you and your partner set sail!! we will have a toast for you two or who knows we may cross paths at YVR!

mermen    9 years ago

And we'll be with you in First Class, or Business at the least 😀

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

agreed merman. Thx for backing us up. this is inflammatory at best.

Sailed Celebrity for years, most ships. My partner & I have never seen "segregation" on any ship, Celebrity or Princess. Never. Besides the poster doesn't mention which ship? All ships have specialty restaurants. Cunard line offers this and other lines offer various dining rooms. Segregation is a negative- instigating word. Everyone can choose $ or $$$$$ dining...Home or cruise. Don't judge.

lol. yep bet she/he is one of the people that come up from the back and push back the curtain to use our restroom because it's "not fair" he/she wants to pee with the rest of us. I hate it when people do that!!

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

thx Devin. see you in first class sometime when flip will be angry at our free drinks and silverware. ;)

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

by the way if you want to name call I'm a female posting on my husband and my joint account so you better use the b** word or I will be offended lol

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

Flipflop it's "you're" or "you are" not your (possessive) unless Devin possesses a douchebag. lol way to resort to name calling. are you 15?

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

flip-flop that is a red herring of a rebuttal if I ever read one!! no one is saying you can't use the pool, or dine in the nice dining room like everyone else. it's not like you can only eat in the cafe!!! So there is a small reserved area like Devin is saying for those who paid A LOT more to get an extra "perk" which is not a big deal.

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

I'm sure flip flop is offended by that too

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

Lol thank you Devin.

flipflop15    9 years ago

I'm not offended I just think it stupid. that's like saying I can't use the pool at the hotel.because I didn't pay to sleep in the penthouse

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

choosing

flipflop15    9 years ago

I am not offended. I choose to not spend my money on a special room.

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

So do we! it's YOU who are chosen to be "offended."

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

and by the way, I already explained several times, the main dining room has all kinds of passengers, including balcony passengers and inside all seated together, not "segregated"

flipflop15    9 years ago

I sleep in an interior cabin because I choose not to live in my room. so now I cant eat with suite people. give.me a break. I enjoy eating with all people.

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

um yeah we book an inside because we only sleep and get ready in our rooms. you are the one being offended because you think someone who paid more is getting something better and offended by it.

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

this is all easily researched online but I will answer you anyway. Technically the "free" formal dining room is aft on levels 4 and 5. part of 5 is reserved for "blu" which is for Aqua (spa) room passengers and has more light/spa fare. part of 4 (a tiny part) is for suite passengers. All other passengers, concierge class, other balconies, insides outsides literally everyone else either uses the rest of 4 or 5 based on whether you select traditional set dining time or select when you choose your time. it is not at all like "rich people" up top and poor people below. that is not a fair characterization.

flipflop15    9 years ago

Oh ok so yes special paying people, special dining arrangements. kind of like segregation in a different form. cool

katohc    9 years ago

All the passengers are special! Suite passengers, having paid more, may eat in Luminae. Anyone who wishes to eat in Luminae simply has to pay for a suite, that's all there is to it. BUT all the food is great, so there really is no problem.

flipflop15    9 years ago

so there is special.dining room for special passengers?

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

Sorry I meant to say not sure if it is...

chrisandsarah32    9 years ago

this is simply not true. I am not sure of it is because of your language barrier. The ship has a reserved area Luminae on deck 4 for suite passengers, Blu for aqua class guests on 5 half of port side, all other select guests are on 5 either port or star, and all other traditional on 4 starboard. what you said is simply not true and I think you just misunderstood. If you were only allowed to dine on 4 it was not because you were in a "level 2" cabin, it was because you did traditional dining. in the same dining room on the same floor as you on the other side you had the "highest class" suite cabin passengers. please don't spread false lies.

katohc    9 years ago

I don't believe you!

flipflop15    9 years ago

that is ridiculous. special dining room.

Cruiseguy80    9 years ago

We have been on the mellinium and Equinox. They just seat you at dinner. Did you ask and they told you you couldn't sit together? It may have just been busy. They don't have a class system only on Cunard do they do that.

flipflop15    9 years ago

Kind of like on Norwegian if you are staying g in a Suite or the Haven you have priority embarking and disembarking. that I think is messed up too.

flipflop15    9 years ago

really? they seat you according to rooms? that is ridiculous.

CharmsSteffani    9 years ago

You got me with the dining segregation based on your room. Never sailing on Celebrity if that is the case. Thanks for the heads up!
