Review summary

We absolutely loved cruising with Celebrity, it was our first time. The crew and people aboard were amazing. The specialty restaurants are worth the extra money.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We traveled to Italy to see our daughter, who is stationed there in the Air Force. We spent the first week in Cinque Terre, Florence and Rome. Our travel agent set us up in a private transfer from Rome to the cruise port, which made it very nice and no worries. Once at the cruise port, staff were very helpful and pleasant to deal with.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We ate at 2 specialty restaurants, Tuscan Grille and Qsine and they were excellent. The main dining room was exceptional and the staff was even better. Buffet was ok but let’s be honest, it’s buffet food. I did like the assortments of salamis and prosciutto most of the time.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Casino was terrible due to the dealers being very unfriendly and acted angry all the time. We spent most of our time at the martini bar and met some amazing people that we are still friends with today. The bartenders were awesome, especially Kris. If you see him, tell him Jessika says hello.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff were excellent, except the casino. Our room steward was awesome and the wait staff were second to none.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship is an older ship and in need of a makeover but the do and excellent job with keeping her clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a balcony room with a bunk bed that folded down from the ceiling which made it very nice since our daughter was with us. The steward did an awesome job and we wanted for nothing. Our travel agent also sent a cheese plate and chocolate covered strawberries to our room.

Ship tip

Book your shore excursions well in advance and take advantage of the discounts in specialty restaurants on first night. Stay away from the casino.

Ports of call

Messina, Sicily

5 out of 5
We did the Castelmola, wine and cannoli tour. We absolutely loved it and the food at the restaurant was excellent. If you don’t like heights or being in a bus on narrow roads with very sharp turns going up to Castelmola then this tour is not for you. The views from Castelmola are breathtaking. Turrisi bar is quite different from bars in the states so beware. The winery was ok but nothing compared to the winery in Tuscany that we visited.

Valletta, Malta

4 out of 5
We did the Taste of Malta tour. We visited Mostadome and it was very impressive. Went to a winery and glass blowing. Winery was very nice and we did buy some there. Glass blowing was ok but not the highlight for us. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and made it a nice tour. We also walked around in Valletta and we enjoyed that as much as anything.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

2 out of 5
We did the Cavtat on your own tour. We were very disappointed as there are no beaches there and our tour guide was boring and would not stop talking. It was beautiful there but not what we were expecting.

Venice, Italy

5 out of 5
Wish we could have spent more time here, maybe next time. Our daughter took us to her neck of the woods around Aviano to show us Italy away from the tourist areas.

Koper, Slovenia

5 out of 5
I think this was our favorite just because of the scenery. We took the Best of Slovenia tour which took us to Ljubljana for some free time downtown. Then to Lake Bled for lunch and then a boat ride to the island. The food was very good. The views were absolutely awesome. Our tour guide was awesome and very knowledgeable and made it very interesting.

Argostoli, Kefalonia, Greece

4 out of 5
We did the Best of Kefalonia tour which visited Drogarati cave, Messilani lake and lunch at Phiskardo. The views were amazing and the tour guide was very good. Lots of stairs at the cave and the lake tour was crowded but was a neat experience.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
We loved Rome and wished we could have spent more time there.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
It was a very smooth departure, and thanks to our travel agent, we didn’t have to wait for a boat in Venice.

We did a small group tour of the Colosseum and then visited St Peters Basilica. We visited Rome the day before we embarked on the ship.

What did you do in Rome? We’ve always found it a bit overwhelming with so little time to spend there.
