Given that this was our first cruise in two years, we would have been happy with any cruise. However, the entire cruise experience on the Apex significantly exceeded our expectations from beginning to end.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Very well organized. Hardly any wait. Everyone knew their jobs and executed procedures perfectly.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
All good! The service and food at all the restaurants ranged from very good to excellent. The steakhouse was outstanding and worth the extra cost of $55.00 per person. The buffet was well organized and had a wide variety of menu choices. The servers and staff were very friendly and seemed to enjoy interacting with passengers.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
All good. The pool had plenty of chairs and towels and did not seem to be overcrowded. The lectures by Steve Friedman (Broadway musicals) and Jim Kennedy (NASA programs) were enjoyable and well attended. The fitness center was clean and well equipped-never crowded. All the equipment was well maintained and working-a first for me!
Entertainment
5 out of 5
All the entertainment was good-some acts were outstanding. The house band was excellent and performed every day in different venues. The entertainment options were many and varied with no repeats. We attended at least two different entertainment venues every night and still did not see all of the acts.
Children's Programs
No children in our party.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The service throughout the ship was better than I have experienced in over 30 cruises on at least five different cruise lines, and that includes premium cruise lines such as Oceania and Windstar-a very high bar.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The Apex is a well designed ship with many different areas to avoid crowds. The interior design, furniture, and fixtures reflect a more modern and design intensive vibe incorporating neutral colors and natural light. The Apex is not "old school" in any way and polar opposite of the deigns of the older traditional ships of the 1970's-early 2000's.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We loved the Sunset Veranda rooms as they were relatively large with oversized real verandas. The cabin was spotless.
Ship tip
Try as many different restaurants as possible and do not go to bed early! Enjoy the ship and as many activities as possible.
Roatan is very touristy and crowded. Good beaches and shopping. Skip the ships tours and hire a taxi to get an overview of the island and it's culture. Snorkeling and scuba outstanding.
Nassau has plenty of historical tours that can be done on your own. Good beaches and boating. Paradise Island and the Atlantis hotel is worth visiting, especially for first time visitors.
