Clean Ship and AMAZING staff!!!! by vickeyrobertson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Had a very nice trip. 7 day New England/Canada cruise. After the normal hurry up and wait of getting on the ship itself, we had a very nice vacation. The employees  on the Carnival Splendor are extremely hard working. They are ALWAYS cleaning, everything!!!! The food was ok, industrialized, but that's to be expected. The best food was, the deli on the back of the ship. Atulya was extremely friendly and made a kick butt sandwich! Bussabong (back deck bartender) was AWESOME!! Her bar was where I spent most of my free time. Her charismatic personality and  extremely clean bar made for a great environment to make new friends from all over the world. All of the staffs efforts were appreciated. Overall it was a quiet cruise, and very relaxing. I LOVED the Dive-in movies. It was such a great idea. As for excursions I only did the Peggy's Cove/Titanic. It was beautiful, but more time getting to enjoy the beauty of it would have been great. Thanks Carnival Splendor for the great vacation!!!

Our Cruise to Cananda by missbecky39

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

My husband and I celebrated our 50th anniversary by taking our daughter, her husband & 3 kids on the 5 night cruise to Canada.  We enjoyed it tremendously.  I was a little disappointed in the fact that I had attempted to secure a chapel room for a non denominational Bible Study months prior to our cruise.  I was told that it would not be allowed, however, we had taken a trip on Princess Cruise Lines 4 years ago, and someone else had requested & it was granted,  a slot in the chapel for such a service (the time & location was even written on each day's itinerary).  This ended up being the highlight of our cruise that particular year, being able to meet with other Christians & sharing our faith.

I also felt as if the photographs taken on board ship were a little pricy.  We ended up purchasing 3 because we had failed to bring our camera, but I can't remember them being that expensive on any of the other 8 cruises we have been on.

We did miss the Captain's Night dinner, as it was announced the previous night in the dining room.  The noise level was so high, and with the gentlemen's accent, we could not hear/understand anything

he was saying.  We were a little disappointed to show up in our dressy clothes rather than our more formal attire we had packed for the special occasion.   Apparently others had missed the announcement as well since I did not see too many dressed in fancy attire.  Perhaps the announcements could be made over the loud speakers in the earlier part of the mornings, so that everyone would be informed properly.     Other than that, everything was excellent.

Great Cruise - Great People by bgordon

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Overall I have to rate this cruise as 5 stars. The food choices and service were excellent. The Carnival staff were truly attentive and the cabin room was kept immaculate.

Also, the show people were really excellent...non-stop singing and dancing in a very professional and highly original set of shows and staging.  Incredible costume changes too!

I would definitely book a Carnival cruise again.

Poor Expirence, Not recommended by shahkalpesht

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Hi,

Here with I let you know regarding the Carnival splendor. We had a poor Experience regarding the Indian Vegetarian food ( Tandoori Section on Buffet Section was not not good at all. Food is salty, outdated, spicy and Tandoori Roti or Naan was very hard ) We already specified we are strickly vegeterian and would like to use only Indian Food.

Guest Services also Very Poor. 3rd of the Cruise they suspended Access of the room. I opened Cash account. I already paid upfront Cruise charges only on board Expense was remaining and the 5 days was not over. They force me to pay off the Balance first and gave me the room access.

Their was not much fun shows or other activity on the cruise. Each day over and over one show they were running on Spectacular Theater. Please Be careful to Spend the Money with this type of cruise have not much fun.

NorwayGain GEM or Breakway Cruise are much better then Carnival cruise.

First time cruiser by bobmac29

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Took awhile  to learn about the ship.  Didn't discover the adult deck until late in the cruise.

Would recommend the restaurants over the buffet for dinner, they offered a more refined atmosphere.

Would have liked much more in the way of a stage show.  Show was dull and a couple of the dancers just seemed to be doing the steps without and grace or ease.

Lunch buffets had many options.  Terrific pizza anytime.

Ship tour is WAY.....overpriced.

Was a relaxing few days.

Very attentive staff.

Too much hustling for shipboard shops

Q & A w/cruise director should allow questions about the ship and staffing questions such ass contracts and salary/.

Would take another  Carnival cruise, but would also like to try another line

Average food, nice shows by Firehose

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Foods are okay in the restaurants, but not in the buffet.  The line up is a waste of time.  It took almost an hour to get a plate of Mongolian grill.  It is not excellent, but it is made on site.

The shows are surprisingly good.  They are different every nights.  Dancers are great and the singers are average.

Disapointed by jhbrn5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Our Steward did not keep our water supply up, and when we would ask for water, we did not get any. We had to ask again.  He left wet pool towels in our room and did not replace them, and we had to seek out fresh pool towels.

We were not thrilled with the food.  This was a good thing, because I did not gain any weight.

We did like the spa, but felt the prices were greatly inflated.  We did not like the automatic gratuity.

Poor Relative to other cruise lines by ryvlad

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Positive: Despite decor that some may find questionable plenty of indoor space in case of inclement weather.

Cons: Very disorganized.  We left the port an hour late, not because passengers were late coming ot the ship but because they did not get them on board on time.  Restaurants were often opening 15 minutes late or more.

Many people who work on the ship do not know what is available on the ship.  I had to ask a number of staff members for directions to kids water park located on the ship, I was directed to a pool and number of other places.  If it was not for my persistance I would never find it.

Don't know if it was because we went on a four day cruise but half of the bufet was always closed.   Don't see how that is acceptable since the ship was fully booked.    I went once to Mongolian Wok, by the time I got my food the rest of my family already ate.  The lines were always long and the selection relative to other ships was very poor. No smoked salmon for breakfast at teh buffet,  only at restaurant.  Most of the specialty stations were only open for lunch and not for dinner.   I did not see sushi station open at all.  I really do care about dinner buffet because I was with a small child and we had late seating and we could not change it because the cruise was fully booked.  I was counting on the buffet , and on all other ships I have been on the quality of the buffet was close to restaurants and for me personaly sometimes even better .    On other ships I have been on in the restaurants they always had great dessers here they were mediocre at best and most of the time I did not even want to order them. I suppose this was good for my waste line.

Given how often you hear about people getting sick at sea it is essential to be able to sanitize your hands before going to eat etc.   It does not make sense to go to the cabin to wash your hands so we are relying on hand sanitizers. Very often the dispensers were empty, what was especially annoying was that the one by children's camp was empty too. Children  and germs go togeter, this and restaurants should be the first place where you would put hand sanitizer.  I do have to say that other than lack of sanitiser the ship was clean.

if you have family I would recommend Royal Carribean or Norwegian, for adults Princess is another good bet.

Had things stolen from me by charpo1029

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I had the worse experience ever...things were stolen from me...and had a terrible experience with Cruises Only...I call Carnival to make a formal complaint, and they basically blew me off.  My sister and I who have over 50 cruises between the both of us have never been treated in such a manner.  I would not recommend ever.

wonderful time by deegood

Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had a very nice time on the Splendor! There were many options for dining. The staff was pleasant and helpful. It amazed us that they remember your name and the kids name also. The room steward was magnificent and ever so kind. Many activities to do. The only thing was the cigarette smoke coming from the casino when you passed through. Will definitely cruise next year. My agent Denise was wonderful and informative when we were booking answered all questions and helpful.

Splendor, August 12 - 20, 2014 by chykov

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We parked at the Weehawken Ferry Port and took the ferry over to Manhattan. Not only was it a nice (and surprisingly easy) way to get to the ship (View of Skyline and ship from New Jersey), it saved us about $150 on parking versus parking at the cruise port. Left out of Manhattan Cruise Center. Security and check in went smoothly and rather quickly (about 40 mins total). Ship was clean, food was good, not great (had better on the Pride out of Baltimore). Had a great cabin with an extra large balcony (room 8457). My wife and I got the CHEERS drink package and I think it saved us a boatload of money as our friends who traveled with us spent well over $600 more than we did. I would consider it if you like to have a few drinks! Crowd was definitely New York/North Jersey centric, so was a bit raucous. We like that kind of atmosphere so we were fine. Probably not the crowd if you are looking for a quiet relaxing atmosphere. Definitely more partiers than not. Weather was great. The first sea day a little rough, not bad though (to be expected in the North Atlantic). Otherwise warm and sunny. Ports were excellent (though I am not a fan of Nassau). As always, crew is excellent, bar, wait staff and room stewards were very attentive. We had fun and would do it again.

Don't Travel On This Ship by hanfang87

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was my 3rd cruise, second time on Carnival. I've gone on a Royal Caribbean out of Florida (5 day trip: CoCo Cay, Nassau, Bahamas---$350 +taxes and port fees), I went on Carnival Splendor leaving out of New York in March 2014 ($350 +taxes and port fees) and then the same exact ship in July 2014 ($850+taxes and port fees).

Why the same boat twice? My fiance and I needed a desperate break away and Carnival was selling March tickets for $350, so we said why the hell not! At the same time, my family really wanted to go on a cruise, and at the time it was cheaper to book on Carnival then other ships. Plus Carnival seemed to have a good reputation.

After my March trip I really wanted to cancel my July trip, but it wasn't feasible. So we went, and while noticed they treat the summer cruisers to better things (not food, food remained the same), we did see better shows and better movies.Carnival does try to providea variety of food, but Royal does a far better job. Not only did Royal provide a huge variety of food, the quality seemed better. One thing I really hated on Carnival is their lack of good coffee. The coffee is bitter and tastes like a dirty water.  I also missed Royal's 24 hour food options, which were significantly better than Carnival's pizza options. The only other thing that was a saving grace for Carnival was that their side of the private island, CoCo Cay, was absolutely amazing. Crystal clear calm waters that were shallow for dozens of feet. It was amazing and gorgeous and everything we wanted. But it's not enough to save them.

However, I will never cruise out of NY on a Carnival ship ever again. In fact, I don't think I'll ever cruise Carnival again. My experience with Royal was leagues better. The food was better, entertainment was better. The only thing is service is equal, I felt both ships have amazing workers.

Carnival, and especially the Splendor, has horribly ugly and tacky decorations. I felt like I was in some trippy giant copper penny for over a week. In addition, the lay out is incredibly poorly designed. They put a smoking open door casino in the middle of the ship, by the end of the week, you can smell cigarettes over large parts of the ship--DISGUSTING. And no matter what, every day I couldn't get a seat for my family on the outdoor decks, and the pools were constantly stuffed with tons of people---which made them look like germ pools. for such a large ship they should have hired a much smarter designer!

Save your money and spring for cruise out of Florida, on Royal Caribbean. I'm already sorry I wasted two vacations on Carnival! My next trip is going to be Royal Caribbean on one of their new, larger liners and in a balcony room!

Class experience by jim78609

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

We were sure it was going to be a miserable cruise.  After all, we had Hurricane Andrew chasing us up the coast.  Imagine our shock and delight when we got to the pier and we we're told the cruise was changed to Bermuda!  I am sure it was protecting their own assets, too, but making that change took us from miserable to memorable!  The food was spectacular, with no exceptions, and service was friendly and responsive.  We have nothing negative to say abut the entire experience.n we left impressed with the level of professionalism of everyone involved.  This is our third cruise on Carnival, and the best so far.
