This cruise was a true escape. I never thought of anything else for seven days until it was time to leave. Best vacation since our honeymoon.
We were supposed to leave Saturday afternoon but because of mechanical problems we didn't leave until more than 24 hours later. As a result, we never got to see Mazatlan. Very disappointing. What was more disappointing was the way Carnival handled it. They offered us $50 per person plus port charges and taxes totaling $125 for a couple. Considering most couples paid at least $200/day I felt that the cruise line should have deducted one day prorated from everyone's bill for the inconvenience.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Smooth and easy.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The formal nights were great. We went to the steakhouse and that was even better. I highly recommend couples or groups do that once. The dining room menu was good and diverse. The buffet was good.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
There was plenty to do. The weather didn't always cooperate for us to be outdoors, cold and overcast some days, so we spent time in the spa and gym. Excellent facilities. We went to the comedy show twice and liked both shows. The final night in the atrium was fantastic. Lee, the cruise director was excellent all cruise but outdid himself that night. There were plenty of other things to do, we just couldn't do them all in seven days.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
One of the comedians was five star while the other was three.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our room steward Sharlene was excellent and all but one of our waiters were too. The spa attendants were all nice.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Five stars for cleanliness and three for the design. Some decks went all the way through while others didn't. Even the ones that did go through I found I had to walk up or down stairs to continue.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Enough room to put two big suitcases in and the bathroom didn't feel crowded. The beds were good and Sharlene kept the room nice and clean.
Ship tip
Do it soon. I read that this ship is moving to Australia this winter.
$20/day to park is too much. I will probably go to other ports if I were to cruise again. I like sailing out of Long Beach because it is within driving distance so we don't have to pay for flights. If I'm going to pay $140 to park I'll probably try a different cruise leaving from a different port next time.
