Review summary

I normally really enjoy Carnival cruises, but this has me questioning if I want to cruise Carnival again.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was quick, but no preference was given to Platinum/Diamond VIFP

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Every dinner meal came out late and was cold. Chocolate melting cake should be called a hard brownie.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Weather was windy, rainy, and cold. While one of the pool areas had a retractable roof it was always left open causing very little use of the pool and hot tub. The adult serenity area was covered in black soot and a hot piece of the smoke stack flew off and landed in the serenity area.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Musicians were good, but there was limited variety.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
Limited activities for the kids.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
The service from the waiters was very slow. The service from our room steward was great. Service from client services was TERRIBLE. In the Diamond/Platinum line the crew member just left without saying anything with a line of 6 passengers waiting. It was 10 minutes before anyone else showed up.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship design is very different from most Carnival ships. The crew did a good job at keeping the ship clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin seemed a little smaller than standard Carnival balcony cabins.

Ship tip

Consider another ship and maybe another line. The ship changed ship time when we were in sync with land time, apparently for no reason. This caused any plans you may have scheduled to be off by an hour.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

4 out of 5
It was better to plan our own excursion. Ship excursions were pricy for no real value.

Gibraltar (U.K.)

4 out of 5
I booked Gibraltar on our own through BJs and it was good. Prepare for a lot of walking. We got in over 27,000 steps on the excursion.

Lisbon, Portugal

2 out of 5
Lisbon was good, but the Hop On Hop Off was a disaster. Busses did not run on schedule and at times were replaced by small mini busses that could not pick up additional passengers.

Leixoes (Oporto), Portugal

4 out of 5
Very walkable.

Vigo, Spain

5 out of 5
Tale of two cities was great.

La Coruna, Spain

4 out of 5
Santiago was good. Bus tour guide had nothing to say both legs of the trip.

Bilbao, Spain

1 out of 5

La Rochelle, France

1 out of 5
Ship shuttle service was very poorly planned.

Le Havre (Paris), France

2 out of 5
Due to ship time changing, we lost an hour in Paris.

Zeebrugge (Bruges), Belgium

4 out of 5
Don't waste your money on ship excursion. You can do the same for 1/5 the cost.

Dover (London), England

2 out of 5
It was a rush to get passengers off the ship.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
It was efficient, but they started disembarkation earlier than scheduled.
