I normally really enjoy Carnival cruises, but this has me questioning if I want to cruise Carnival again.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation was quick, but no preference was given to Platinum/Diamond VIFP
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
Every dinner meal came out late and was cold. Chocolate melting cake should be called a hard brownie.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Weather was windy, rainy, and cold. While one of the pool areas had a retractable roof it was always left open causing very little use of the pool and hot tub. The adult serenity area was covered in black soot and a hot piece of the smoke stack flew off and landed in the serenity area.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Musicians were good, but there was limited variety.
Children's Programs
4 out of 5
Limited activities for the kids.
Service and Staff
1 out of 5
The service from the waiters was very slow. The service from our room steward was great. Service from client services was TERRIBLE. In the Diamond/Platinum line the crew member just left without saying anything with a line of 6 passengers waiting. It was 10 minutes before anyone else showed up.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
The ship design is very different from most Carnival ships. The crew did a good job at keeping the ship clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The cabin seemed a little smaller than standard Carnival balcony cabins.
Ship tip
Consider another ship and maybe another line. The ship changed ship time when we were in sync with land time, apparently for no reason. This caused any plans you may have scheduled to be off by an hour.
Lisbon was good, but the Hop On Hop Off was a disaster. Busses did not run on schedule and at times were replaced by small mini busses that could not pick up additional passengers.
We were on Pride recently and agree with all you said. I think it is time to try a different line. Finally got platinum and carnival not pulling thier weight.
This is my 17th day onboard the Pride. I have been on 11 cruises in the last 6 months on 3 lines. Though this isn't up to the normal Carnival standards for service (all lines are understaffed due to visa issues) I think they are still doing a fantastic job. Normally I would give Carnival and Princess 5 stars (Carnival 5 due to performance for the great value) and Celebrity 4, now maybe all are one less. Still excellent but we can't have the same expectations for impeccable everything as we are used to... For NOW.
All cruise lines will have hiccups during this time. Celebrity and Princess are also having problems(I experienced it). My food has been excellent in the Pride but one person received a cold appetizer last night, told the server, and he got another one piping hot. I'm at a table with two couples who have each been on the ship for almost two months and they are having a great time and are happy to continue their remaining more than a month. I'll be here another almost 20 days and am happy.
See you around the ship!
