Best Vacation Ever!! by escapethecold

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a great time aboard the Carnival Paradise cruise ship. The ship had so much to offer. The food was great, the service even better. We are ordinary people, but the staff on board made us feel special every day. Everyone was so friendly, especially our cabin steward, Nenja, who kept our cabin immaculate. The ship thought of everything, right down to the holder for our water bottle for one of our excursions to the Mayan Ruins. For five glorious days we didn't have to worry about anything. Our biggest concern was, "what should we do next". The evening shows were very professional and well done. We had very nice dinner guests every night. We took the Behind the Scenes tour and were very impressed with the high caliber of all the staff from the recycling staff to the chefs to the engineers. After that tour, I felt very safe from a health stand point. They disinfect every public surface every night! Who else does that? I watched my husband relax more during those 5 days than any time I can remember before. Our only regret is that we hadn't done a cruise sooner. The ultimate stamp of approval came from my husband after the cruise when he said, "I'd give up my annual summer fishing trip if we could cruise again next year"! We can't wait for our next cruise with Carnival!!

Staff was all wonderful by jsheets

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Everyone of the staff was wonderful.  The food was pretty good and way too tempting were the desserts.  The only thing I didn't care for was the fried chicken and some gluten free bread.  Our houskeeper was very nice always with a smile on his face.  The dining room people were super.  Would have preferred not to have to set at a table with people we didn't know alll the time.  We ate casually two nights out on a table on the deck.  The warm breeze and watching the sunset was fantastic.  My biggest dissapointments were not being able to get by the pool as everyone claimed the loungers for the day very quickly. They said that they remove unattended towels from loungers after 40 mins left unattended but I didn't see that happening. Most of the activities started late at night after my husband was asleep.  The only thing we did get to was a movie at 5 pm one night. Cozumel was not much fun. It was hot and we walked several blocks that were alll shops with people trying to get us to buy something every 2 feet or so.  Grand Cayman was much better. We went to see turtles that were up to 1000 pounds.  The  morning that we ended our trip we were dalayed from the fog.  It was stressful waiting with our flight back leaving in the afternoon.  Luckily our flight was delayed  70 mins. We got off around 2 pm and headed to the airport just making it ontime. I had always wanted to go on a cruise and built my expectations too high.

Had a great time by ChristaD

Had a great time. The service from the staff was fantastic. Everyone was very friendly and efficient. There were lots of activities to keep us busy. I would have liked to have more bingo games each time. One game for $20.00 seemed excessive. I liked the one time that Bingo was 5 games

Dissapointed with lack of dress code for dining room. Crew members with excellent. Destinations and Excursions Excellent. Dining menu lacked the pizzazz of other cruise lines. Comparing Royal Caribbean.

Cruise on the carnival Paradise by jamesmichael

The ship is old and it shows.  The service is for trainees and it shows.  The budget must be being cut as everything showed. Not worth it at any price!!!

A lovely cruise by dib

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My two friends and I decided to take this cruise together without our husbands. Getting on was no problem as we were in our room about 10 minutes after we checked in. Luckily, we all had separate rooms right near each other, so we all unpacked and went directly to lunch in the Paris dining room. We appreciated the map on the wall at each elevator so we could find our way as the ship is so large. I really can't complain about the food in the Paris and I especially enjoyed the daily specialty food items, such as Italian, Caribbean, etc. My favorite nosh there was the salsa which was freshly made each day. The breakfast omelette was great, and we also loved the Chinese lunch where you selected your own fresh vegetables and meat and they cooked it for you right there. Of course, the best dining experience of all was in the Elation dining room. We sat at a different table each night and found that the servers were so friendly and helpful and personable. Our fave was Slavisa and we even had a conversation with him about his country. It was fun one night when we were asked to join the waiters to dance in the aisle. The food here was always delicious and you could order as much as you wanted. My faves were the lobster and shrimp and also the delicious Caesar salad. We enjoyed the anytime dining and were seated almost immediately when we arrived there. Our plan of action on the ship was to play mah jongg every day as I had brought my set along. It would be nice if they had a room and some sets where other people could play as this is such a popular game. We saw some people playing some cards and games in the library but not mah jongg. Anyway, we chose a location by the internet cafe and suddenly two ladies saw us and stopped to talk. I discovered they were both from my home town in Ohio and they asked if they could join us. So we ended up playing with them several times during the cruise. I played a game of scattergories and came in second place. My friend and I used the exercise equipment one day, but did not join in any other of the daily activities. The shows featuring the singers and dancers were outstanding, and even the cruise director was remarkable with his fiddle. Another great show was the comedian who had us in stitches. Of course we all  loved getting off the ship and visiting Cozumel and Grand Cayman. We went to Chankanaab Park in Cozumel and to Cemetery Beach in Grand Cayman. In Grand Cayman, I snorkeled for the first time as we were on a fabulous uncrowded beach. Another highlight is when we went to the Breezes bar in downtown GC and had scrumptious strawberry daiquiris. The weather was great that week but I never sat in the sun up on the deck where the pool was. The music was broadcast on loud speakers and it was just too much ruckus for me. So my friends and I basically just walked from one side to the other and did not linger there. There were all ages of people on the ship and I think it is a super fun idea for anyone who enjoys getting away from it all in a very unique and pleasant manner. I would definitely recommend this reasonably priced fun cruise to any of my acquaintances.

Had a great time by laurietaylor

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I had a great time on this cruise.  If the weather had been warmer it would have been perfect.

I did Faster to the Fun and I have to say that not having to wait to get on board was wonderful.

I did the 8:15 seating for dinner and even though it was a little late it was great not being rushed to finish so conversation at the table was interesting, and fun  and relaxed.   I had an oceanview room and it was very nice to wake up to the sunshine. I would love a balcony but the balconies on this ship seemed very tiny.

The staff was very accomadting and very friendly.  They went out of their way to help.

My one complaint would be that there was not a great deal of variety of things to do.  Only one pool.  The promenade was not very impressive either.  The food was acceptable but not great.  Did like the deli and the pizza station though. They also had Mongolian barbeque which was pretty good but the lines every day were soooooooooooo long.

Seaday Brunch was pretty good too.

All in all I had a great time, met lots of nice people.

I would absolutely cruise with Carnival again but I would try for a newer ship with more to do.

As expected by tja

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This cruise was as expected.  The weather in January is always questionable.  The shows were great, the food was good.  I will go again.   Our room steward was very good, the rooms were quite spacious for a cruise.  The dining room food was great, the Mexican buffet at night, seemed to lack some true Mexican foods.  The ship was very clean, and staff friendly.  The price was great and we had fun.   That said there were a few things I thought they could do better, being on other cruises.  There fitness schedule for the at sea days lacked variety, and the extra classes were more money, Yoga for $12 extra, I think Boot camp was more than that, the classes should be included.  They didn't seem to have lots of party atmosphere on the pool deck,  I remember that  from previous cruises.  Anything going on was either only involving a few people  ( hairy man contest, scavenger hunts where only a few participated), or the activities were late in the evening and usually got started late.  I offered to do some Zumba classes and told someone would get back to me, of which they never did. My husband and I were also surprised that there was not  more live music during the day, everything was at the same time.  we have been on other cruises where there is music playing either piped in or a latin band all the time.  ONe night we went to the piano bar the time it said on the schedule and he was not there, so either the schedule was wrong , or maybe he was not feeling well but regardless, seems like more of that party music during the day would be a great improvement.. I think some more activity especailly on the at sea days, and especially when the weather is questionable in January would benefit them greatly.

never cruising carnival again by joyedge

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was to have been a special mother daughter vacation that I had saved and spent a great deal on. I had gotten us a grande suite .when we checked in and went to see the cabin,no one said anything but there was a group of work men and huge blowers on the floor. We went and explored. Hours later we went back the blowers were still there. They were loud so we asked them to take them. They said they had to dry the carpet. Told us it wouldn't take long. After 3 days of that( our cruise was only 4days). We discovered a pipe had broken before we got on. When asked why they didn't move us they claimed there was no where else for us. The only compensation they gave us was 20 0/0 per person per day. Our cabin girl was always going on break,we only saw our head waiter once. I have cruised carnival 8 times and my experiences keep going down hill. This was the last straw.

fog/sick by ladydithorpe

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

sorry for a first cruise I will probably never go again

Ship delayed twice due to fog

Last day we should have docked at 8 - at 1200 I had to leave my cabin - I had a fever of 102 (I know this as I took it)

chills, aches, diarrhea (which I then had for five days). It was to cold on deck so I sat on the floor for three hours sick - VERY SICK - I attempted to go to the in firmary but did not want to pay as they do not take insurance -

We did have great wait staff and cabin crew. However, some of the bartenders and coffee shop personnel were RUDE - my sister and I paid for the "cruise cup drinks" - We had to ask the female bartender three times to provide us with the cup that we paid for.

Not a cruise of people over 60 YOA by jyoung1086

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This cruiser, over the Christmas Holiday, should be advertised as a cruise for families and for older (over 60 YOA)vacationers.  The music on the Lido deck was extremely loud and made for sitting on that deck almost impossible for having conversations with anyone.  The ship was COLD at all times without any means to warm up the rooms.  Food was average and when dining in the dining rooms that wait staff was pushy and did not allow time for a pleasant relaxing dining experience.  The food was average at best.

if this was my first cruise experience. by brrian

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

IF this was my first cruise ever taken, I would never go on another cruise again.

I go on a average of 6 cruisers a year. To give you all a good idea . I have sailed on most of the cruise lines.

This was by far the worst, most boring, cruise to date.

Don't WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY BY BOOKING A CRUISE ABOARD THIS SHIP.

TAKE ANOTHER MORE MODERN SHIP.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

A Dream Come True by Monarae

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

On this cruise was the most gratifitying cruise I ever took.  So start out, the crew treated us like family and was glad to see us. Our stateroom was alway perfectally clean thanks to Floyd and always a surprise every evening as in a yummy snack or cute towel animals.  Dining was alway a pleasure.  The food was just like what you see in the magazines and taste even better.  Our waiter Natalino Kanjer was awesome!!   Upon arrival we had flowers from Mihael Ivanovici that were beautiful.  Alina Chefneus the Hotel Director send a bottle of wine that was highly appreciated.  The best part was the entertainment of the breakdancers Antonio and Randy put on a preformance that was remarkable.  The dancers and singer Carli Rapsey put on two wonderful shows plus a Christmas show that included the Camp Carnival kids that was really cute.  If we werent watching the dancers we were enjoying the electricifying music of Blood Power Band!   The most rememberable part was drinks and lunch with Staff Captain Emanuele Giudice and Captain Renato Bendinelli.  It was surely a dream come true!
