Great cruise! With a few minor caveats. by captop

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Our first Alaskan cruise and it was a blast! ย Lots of chances to view wildlife, won a few bucks more than I lost in the casino, and first-class entertainment. ย There were several sightings of porpoises and humpback whales during sailing and the on-board naturalist made announcements as soon as one was sighted. We loved the balcony room and spent a lot of time on the balcony to relax and enjoy the scenery as we went.

The on-board singing and dancing entertainment was first-class. Props, choreography, singing, dancing, the whole bit. ย I wouldn't be surprised at all if several of the performers pop up again eventually in Broadway - they were just that good. ย Our family would have debates trying to figure out if they were lip-syncing or actually singing while dancing - they were definitely singing live.

Food wise, I was a bit disappointed. It was decent, and definitely some tasty things, but overall not amazing. Given, our first cruise we were just blown away on a Royal Caribbean cruise that had the most amazing food so I had pretty high expectations that this cruise definitely didn't live up to. ย More specifically, it would have been nice if they had changed the breakfast menu even once (though it was decent) during the entire trip. Two other points of advice - the coffee is terrible. ย Just *terrible*. The pay-for-coffee bars are fine, but if you are used to drinking good coffee, just be prepared. The other is the rice. Again, just TERRIBLE. Mushy with no taste or other texture. Sushi was terrible. They could definitely use better rice or better rice cookers. ย Other than those 2 things, everything else was very decent - especially the pizza and the desserts.ย

The kids said the kids camp staff were "bossy" for no good reason but they had plenty of other activities and honestly, I can't really blame them when they were overseeing 50+ kids at once with just a few people.ย

Ports were great, although it would have been nice to spend more time in the ports especially toward the end.ย

Overall, definitely worth doing - the family had a great time.ย

A truly iconic and amazing... by MasterGarf

Ship: Carnival Legend

A truly iconic and amazing cruise that Iโ€™ll never forget. We took this ship in Alaska in 2016 (my second time being on it), and we had a great time. The ship was nice, and so were all the ports (which I did separate reviews on). I went with my cousins and family, making it a big group cruise. If you ever take the Carnival Legend to Alaska, prepare for a great experience.

I went on the 7... by KeetoBandit

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Legend

I went on the 7 night Alaskan cruise in summer 2017. Where do I begin. Almost everything on this cruise was perfect. The staff was extremely friendly and always helpful. There was many great shows, great events on the lido deck. The water slides were very good and the green thunder is a must to do. The itinerary had to be the best part of the cruise. Tracy Arm is very good for sights, Skagway had a great town and the zip line excursion is a must, Juneau was a very small town with much to do, Ketchikan was a nice small suburban city with many cool sights, and Victoria is a beautiful city. Also Seattle has many cool things to do before and after the cruise like the space needle, Pikes Fish Place, and the Ferris wheel. The only bad thing on this ship was the food on the lido. It seemed like it was never fresh and it was the same thing every time. If I had the chance to do this cruise again, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Loved this cruise, loved this ship! by Christine1051

Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Getting close to the huge glacier in Endicott Fjord was breathtaking. Watching whales was marvelous. The Skagway White Pass Train ride up to the border of Canada is not to be missed!ย  Alaska is a beautiful state and we only saw a little bit of it, need to go back!ย  The Legend was the perfect size ship, not like the bigger ones. Hardly a wait for breakfast at the Lido deck's buffets, even at lunch on sea days it was painless. The staff is so very friendly, the food was delicious. My only comment on that is the menu doesn't change from ship to ship at all, it would be nice to have different ones. We had wonderful waiters and an attentive room steward. Afternoon trivia games and bean tosses were fun, no outdoor activities due to colder weather, but that's okay. Embarkation was a breeze as was debarkation, best we've seen so far on any of our cruises with Carnival! Organized excursions -- in Skagway, there were 3 different train rides. 30 minutes in advance, they asked all ticket holders to meet in the theater, sorting them out to the train ride they were taking. We left one group at a time -- this avoided that hectic looking around and crowds outside the ship. They did this in all ports with popular excursions. They did everything right!ย  Would sail on that ship again in a heartbeat, but would like to spend more time in Juneau and Ketchikan, that's all.

Breathtaking Nature by waldrokl

This was the best cruise I have been on so far. While all our others have been to beaches, you can not fit the scale of nature into a photo.

Amazing trip - just not up to par by Crusinmama

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Alaska is an incredible place and seeing it on a cruise ship has always been my dream.ย  This was my second cruise on Carnival and my second cruise on the Legend.ย  The ship is one of the oldest in their fleet, but it is clean and well maintained.ย  The staff was very friendly and helpful.ย  The balcony room was very nice, but a little tight for 3 people.ย  The food was not as good as I remembered and there wasn't the variety I thought there would be.ย  For an up-charge in the dining room you could order better than what was being served.ย  My biggest disappointment was the number of small children allowed to run wild all day and then become a nuisance at night when rude parents bring them to the shows and let them cry for an hour.ย  The staff should step so other guests don't miss the show.ย  Overall very happy I went and I am planning on going again, this time I will try another cruise line with less kids.

Bloody shocker. Worst food ever. Feral passengers dressed as though they belonged to a shearing team and that was for formal night. Never ever on a Carnival ship

Our cruise cherry-popper in Dec... by RiaP

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Legend

Our cruise cherry-popper in Dec 2015 and what a first experience it was, celebrated our 11yr anniversary on an 11day cruise and thoroughly caught the cruise bug. Food was excellent, service was beyond excellent - the friendliest crew members, entertainment was amazing - The Playlist Group onboard was so good that we recently went on Spirit and thought they just didnt compare, we really didnt utulize all the amenities as we spent most of the time relaxin on our balcony, enjoying time alone & making new friends (some who have remained friends to this day), could not find anything to fault it (even without anything to compare it to), we had an amazing time. Canโ€™t wait for her renovations. Would be great to get back on her once sheโ€™s fitted with all the gadgets (not that she needed much, just a bit of new paint & a little clean up), otherwise she was perfect!

Clean, organised and very entertaining. The decor was a little overpowering at times. The hosts were always more than willing to accommodate your needs. The musical items were outstanding. I would love to see some comedians who were not so smutty.

Loved Hawaii but not the ship by kimberlyelster

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Hawaii

My husband and I had an amazing anniversary in Hawaii but did not enjoy our ship. We were disappointed in the food since we paid extra to eat in formal dining room and found out the buffet served the exact same meals. We did not purchase the drink package since they wanted add on more tax and gratuities even after we paid them ahead and would have had to pay for the days at port and the last day even though we got off the ship at 8:30am. The pictures were great but there was no package to choose from so you had to pay $22 each picture (not worth it). We had to wait 4 hours to get off the ship at a port due to ship docking with tender boats so we only seen that island for 4 hours. We were hoping for more Hawaiian themed activities on ship (music, decorations, picture backgrounds, or food) while at sea for 5 straight days but there was nothing to do with Hawaii until the first port in Hawaii. Overall the staff was amazing and out room was good except there was only 5 channels to watch at night and 3 of them were Carnival (excursions, shopping, show from previous day).

Best Way to See all the Islands by travel55

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Hawaii

We enjoyed the 5 days at sea at the beginning of the cruise.  So relaxing.  There were excursions we enjoyed at each of the islands.  We had anytime dining and enjoyed dining with others, but two times when we arrived after the first round of seating we were seating alone.  The food was OK but not outstanding.

Wonderful Trip! by pattypoo1962

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We had a fabulous time on the Legend.  The ship is very clean and well maintained. We had a interior french door cabin and we were between lifeboats. Great view.  Great sea breeze. Our cabin steward was a little scarce but did her job.  The only thing I will say is that the choice of buffets are limited.  There was not a lot of variety. But everything was tasty.  I would definitely sail on her again!
