Review summary

Let me just start by saying Alaska is beautiful. You will see some of the most beautiful, amazing country that you have ever seen. Skagway and Juneau are incredible.they have a postcard feel and are not short on beautiful scenery. Tracy Arm Fjord is cold but the glaciers true beauty is difficult to capture in pictures. Ketchikan is a different story. It was dirty and smelled of old urine. This would be a good stop to schedule an excursion, we did not since we had in Skagway and Juneau. The cruise was mediocre at best. The decor of the cabin was very outdated. This was our first time to cruise and we didn't know to ask where you were on the boat. It makes a difference. Also the gratuities are added to everything you buy, EVERYTHING!  The alcohol is over priced. The food on the buffet was lukewarm at best. The food in the dining room was very good and the service was top notch. The housekeeper for our room was excellent as well. While cruising to Victoria the ship had a failure of the azipod compulsion system which almost caused the boat to tip over. We were in the dinning room on the 9th floor when it happened and dishes, food, chairs and people were flying everywhere. It took the captain and the ship director a very long time to announce what was happening or even that everything would be okay. They did not send staff around to check on people it was a total mess. They also charge you $12 a day per person on top of all the other gratuity. We left the ship with over $800 in charges. This was an expensive trip. I am glad we had the extra $$$. Since this was our first cruise it will be a long while before we get back on a ship, if we do it wouldn't be carnival.

Sometimes I read reveiws and I wonder if people are on the same cruise as me? Life is what you make of it!!! If you look for something to complain about all the time I guess you will find it.

I was on this cruise. The tipping was truly scary, especially after the Costa Concordia tipping and capsizing several yrs ago in the Med. Im an experienced cruise, well aware of the extra costs and expenses. But this was disappointing. Someone mentioned a partial refund? Not that Ive heard. Would be nice tho. Some sort of apology and acknowlegment from Carnival.

You know, life is what you make of it! Cruises are very much the same. If you walk through life looking for something to complain about instead of enjoying what is right before your eyes, you'll be destined to having a lot of disappointments. There are no guarantees that every thing is going to happen just the way you think that they should. Thank goodness you had such an experienced captain!

Should have done your research. Most people know about the tips. In fact, you can prepay it so one less thing to worry about. And the alcohol... Yes, it's very expensive. That's what they make their money on. Again though, that is something most people know, even first timers.

The Captain on the Legend is amazing! 42+ years as a ship Captain; 33 years with Carnival.

I was on that cruise we were in the dining room 3rd deck. Was very scary, however it lasted only seconds and thank God the captain knew what he was doing. We started running towards the exist, I fell and by the time I got up the ship had stabilized. This is my 6th Carnival cruise and every time I research other cruise lines they are too expensive and don't seem to have as many ports as Carnival.

Sounds like you didn't do your research. Cruising, especially to Alaska is expensive, but still a very good value for what you are paying. Not much more than a nice hotel per night, and your meals and entertainment are included. Of course you can spend way more, but if you research a little, you can save a lot. Sorry about the steering problem. Glad no one was seriously injured.

Maybe I just have vacation related ocd but I research everything. I hate unpleasant surprises and I'm also usually so ready for vacation that I read everything I can, find pictures, etc. There are a lot of fees when it comes to any type of resort, parking fees, resort tax, etc and I prefer to know about these things before I show up so I can account for them. I knew before my first cruise we'd have a daily gratuity charge. I knew from general experience that drinks would probably be expensive.
