Not our best cruise on Carnival. by David1C

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Jase is the worst cruise director. His voice is like nails on the chalkboard. Jase ended every PA announcement with "Bye, I said bye." It was very annoying much like giving a microphone to a 5 year old. The ship was nice. The hot tubs were not warm.  The crew was extremely friendly & provided excellent service. The excursions were very expensive & we spent almost as much on excursions as the cruise itself. The excursions were fun, but overpriced.

Holiday Cruise by sher90fam

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Leaving out of New Orleans right after Christmas was not the greatest idea because N.O. is pretty much shut down for that holiday.  Notwithstanding, the 8-day cruise brightened things up quite a bit.  Visiting 4 ports was fantastic, just didn't care for them being one right after the other in succession.  Beautiful weather on the seas and the Dream had smooth sailing.  Food in the main dining was usually great and service was up to par with other sailings.  Carnival fails providing activities during the day that draw people, so a lot of laying out by members of my party occurred while I spent a lot of time on the b-ball court.  Don't take the late dining time b/c that's when all the fun activities occur, choose early dining or my-time instead.

Carnival cutting costs and quality by yeti38

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: North America

Carnival should take a look at revamping the employee compensation package as the employees seemed disgruntled and overworked. The employees also seemed to be asking for tips in passive aggressive ways, this was disconcerting and lowered the onboard experience. There was other evidence of cost cutting in the cleanliness of the ship as well as worn chairs and stained furniture and bedding. The overall food quality also suffered. Over the last ten years there a continued dramatic reduction in quality that will lead us to look elsewhere for our cruise needs.

My first cruise by rrodneybama1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: Caribbean - Western

the favorite part of the cruise was all the shows, they were awesome. my statesroom was very good and the guy that cleaned my room was very very good. i was most disappointed on the first 2 days. it was frustrating to get some one to get me soft drinks and i purchased that package. every time i asked someone to get me a soft drink ,i was either told that they didnt get soft drinks or i had to go back to the bar to get it.this really made me mad. overall all the ports we docked at was enjoyable except costa maya.i really didnt care for it.

As expected by cstenson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends

All the food you can eat and shopping everywhere.   Not really my style.  I prefer culture and local fair.  The food was bland and all from Sysco (open box and heat).  I prefer local fresh and organic.  I did lose weight on the cruise so that was awesome

Carnival Dream Christmas Cruise by lpage

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The on board entertainment was okay....nothing stellar.  The bands could have been better.

The food was okay...not great but okay.  Dinner meals were rushed and often served tepid at best.

I have cruised on other Carnival ships where every aspect of the cruise was excellent...not so much on this trip.

Ship was fine, ports were tourist traps by miracledreamer

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Park West was definitely our favorite part of the cruise. The art work they offer is world class and Alan and his team were professional, friendly and efficient. They made the whole cruise worthwhile.

The food was great and our balcony cabin was lovely. Karim, our steward, was wonderful.

The nightlife was mediocre and the ports were nothing, but tourist traps.

We were incredibly disappointed there were no Christmas Eve or Christmas days religious services offered! How sad!

Great Cruise by rbamagirl60

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My favorite parts of the cruise were the treelighting ceremony on the first night and the "snow" and caroling on Christmas Day.  I loved the excursions, but my husband and I noticed what seemed to be a shortage of staff in the restaurant, and high-end items such as lobster have been removed from the menu unless you are willing to pay an additional $20.  However, lobster was offered on Christmas night as part of the menu. Overall, it was a great experience!

Fun Vacation! by elisenpage

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: North America

This cruise was a lot of fun. I traveled with my family in order to celebrate Christmas.  We got three interior staterooms, as with 6 people, we figured we wouldn't be spending a great deal of time in the rooms.

The state room attendant was very kind and helpful, and the rooms were small but were all we needed for a good nights rest.  The boat had a lot of activities.  We enjoyed the pool for most of our downtime, but we also utilized the gym and the mini golf course, which was a great deal of fun.

The stops the cruise made were excellent, we loved Jamaica, Grand Caymen, as well as Costa Maya, but our favorite was Cozumel.  Despite some rain each stop was a great deal of fun.  The only issue we really had was due to the time of year it got dark before we needed to be back on the boat, causing us to lose time on the island.

Overall great cruise, and I would recommend.

December 11, 2016 cabin 6359 by JamieDec11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I really enjoyed the size of the ship.  it was so accommodating for the number of people cruising.  Lots of hot tubs, adult only area, comedy club was huge, the number of floors with common areas and the dining room. (scarlet).

First Carnival trip by usjodan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My husband friends and I really enjoyed your ship and crew.  We felt pampered and well fed and the whole trip was a good experience for us.  Thank you

We look forward to more cruises with Carnival.

We however, would have liked to see a world map in the common areas of the ship.

Less Impressed than Other Cruises by tishab9363

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Although I felt like my two sons and I had a very good time on this cruise..the on board activities were great, and the stops were amazing. ....

We couldn't help but notice that several staff members seemed either under-appreciated (mainly by the cruise-goers) or over-worked.  Our stateroom was cleaned in a rush, and a couple things slipped by...mainly dirty dishes in the cabinets, and a terrible odor in one of our closets.  One of the bed sheets appeared to be dirty (it may have just been stained), but I got a fresh sheet from the steward.   Our toilet clogged up at least twice a day, sometimes even if no one used it (We knew the plumber by name by the end of the trip)

We chose anytime dining, and were very disappointed with the service in the dining hall.  It seemed that the wait staff found us to be an inconvenience, and at several meals we felt utterly forgotten.  Another diner at a nearby table told us that's because the waiters work so hard to forge a relationship with their regular diners (in hopes of a good tip) that they all but forget about the "anytime diners".  That does seem like a likely reason.

My other recommendation is to update or expand the internet options on the boat.  Even though I have a MIFI, it didn't work on the ship at all, and the ship's internet was spotty at best...so if you NEED the internet (like my boys say they do) you may be very bored on the ship.

I do feel like the ship did a very good job of having healthy options for those of us that want to eat healthier.  I was able to eat plenty of fruit and yogurt (with skim milk) for breakfast every day,  a huge delicious salad (with every topping imaginable) for lunch, and my personal favorite, salmon with veggies for dinner every evening.  This was the first cruise that I actually felt like I did really good with my eating habits, so thanks to Carnival for that.

All in all, it was a great cruise...mainly just little nit-picky notes...I will be taking another cruise in the near future (February), and look forward to many more.

The food was ok not spectacular never real warm. It was nice that in the morning I could just have my coffee sent to my room. The entertainment was ok. I think cruising is just not my thing.

We had a great time and would do it again! by ljrapp16

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was dressed beautifully for Christmas. The staff was so pleasant from the moment we got on the ship. The ship is easy to navigate and easy to learn. It is great that it has a large serenity deck, as well as, two amazing slides for the kids.  Only downside is the pool area does not have a separate area to dance or watch the fun things they do. It is hard to see the events they perform. Shows were good, but I thought there should have been at least one more. Comedy shows were good as well and I liked that they changed after two days. But did not like that one day they did not have anything.  Overall the food was better on this ship. Nothing was great, but good.

Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was my 3rd time on the Dream.I was on it twice when it was in Florida in 2012 and decided to go out of N.O on it.The ship was still nice .The crew was wonderful. My cabin was nice and clean.Met a lot of very nice people from all over. The food needed to be a lot better. It was the worst I have ever had on a cruise ship.I was not the only one talking about how bad the food was.Ate mostly hamburgers the whole trip. But despite the food and the ports I had a good time.

My grandchildren had a ball and seeing their smiles was worth it all. Jase, Jorja (maitre d) and Wigua (waiter) were the best! They treated my granddaughter that has down syndrome like she was a queen. Thanks for a gret Christmas gift!

Fun Trip by TS71

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Had a great time on this cruise.  We had two medical evac situations, one by boat from Cozumel and the other via the US Coastguard.  The crew of this ship handled both situations very professionally and took care to keep passengers informed.  We also encountered some awesome crew members during our stay - Our cabin steward, Ru, was awesome and very attentive.  There was also a drink waiter that always had a smile from ear to ear whenever he came by, very friendly and helpful.  They made our experience a good one!

A bit about the ports - Roatan was beautiful - not much to do there but very relaxing.  Belize was kind of disappointing - they've got some work to do on their infrastructure - the city, the shops, the roads and the housing around the port are in very poor shape.  Cozumel never disappoints.  All in all, it was a good trip.  Fun experience - next stop Bahamas! =)

It was a Dream by estherphelps

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Dream / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My spouse and I had a wonderful cruise aboard the "Dream" to the Western Caribbean.  The staff were outstanding-helpful, polite, and available when assistance was needed.  We particularly enjoyed the entertainment on board.  JASE the cruise director was everywhere, and made the activities "FUN".  I enjoyed the excellent food choices, but would like to add that the DR vegan options weren't as great as in the past.  (My spouse's comment)
