Review summary

This was our 5th visit to Caribbean and we will no doubt be back again, mainly because we love the area so much and there are still islands yet to visit, wish we could pick out the islands to visit making our own itinerary and maybe even have an overnight stop on some, in general we enjoyed our trip yes some things could have been better but it has in no way put us off from cruising with Princess again in the future.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
As always this went smoothly

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We used the MDR less often this time and had more meals in the newly refurbished Market Place (previously Horizon), although this looked lovely compared to the tired look of last years buffet area, the choice of foods were still good but some favorites were missing, some of the 'hot' foods were only just warm which was a let down. As for the MDR itself the meals were still of good quality but again the choices were rather lacking in comparison of last year on the same trip same ship. The Crown Grill is still our favorite for a 'special' meal exceptional quality and always enjoyed, shame they seem it needed to charge more for it thought, last year $25 this year $29 per head.

Lobby Bar

3 out of 5

THIS NOT FOR LOBBY BAR BUT EXPLORERS BUT THIS DIDN'T APPEAR AS A CHOICE. The bar area was comfortable and clean and the staff were friendly with one in particular (Saly) going the extra mile, what we didn't like this time was the fact that some of the theater shows we also shown here at the same time, we didn't go to the theater as we didn't want to watch the show but didn't get the choice of a different entertainment option because of it, there were also far too many naff quizzes, felt more like a floating UK holiday camp..........not our cup of tea.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The only activities we used were the pool and hot tubs both of which were exceptional, although on one or 2 of the days the hot tub was a few degrees too hot and the pool felt quite icy cool to get into.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Not enough variety, too many comedians seemed like the same old thing just in a different body night after night, alternative options removed from Explorers as theater shows were also shown there, too many boring quizzes, I know it's all a matter of taste and has to cater for a wide audience but there quite literally was no entertainment that we enjoyed apart of the steel drummer..........thankfully we could entertain ourselves elsewhere.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We found as we always have done that the staff were very helpful and happy from all departments.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Although this ship was in for refurbishment only last year there were still areas that required urgent attention, the area in particular that I noticed were the stairs leading from deck 16 up to 17 from the bar area near the smoking section, they looked rusty and dirty, the section that looked at their best was the new Market Place previously the Horizon buffet area.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We only ever use inside cabins as we don't spend a lot of time in them so adequate for our needs, (wish the shower was bigger though) it was kept very clean by our cabin steward David who was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for him, the bed was always well made and comfortable, the only thing that let this down was the duvet cover itself as it appeared to only be what I could only call a half cover. (duvet cover only covered the top with envelope ends, nothing underside only a separate sheet.)

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

5 out of 5

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic Did not visit port

This port of call was cancelled from the itinerary

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

4 out of 5
Lovely island, we took a scenic trip around the island then a catamaran sunset trip in the evening, we enjoyed both but would say that the evening trip could have been better as it ended before the sun had set.

St. John's, Antigua

4 out of 5

Basseterre, St. Kitts

Fort-De-France, Martinique

We enjoyed our trip, a scenic tour and Botanical Gardens, very much what put us off this island were some of the locals in the shops in the harbor area who we found to be very rude.

Bridgetown, Barbados

4 out of 5
We love Barbados but as always loose track as to what the actual day is, unfortunately for us we docked here on a Sunday when everything was closed. :-(

Port of Spain

4 out of 5

Willemstad, Curacao

5 out of 5
Love Curacao everyone is so friendly nice relaxed atmosphere

Oranjestad, Aruba

5 out of 5
Another of our favorite islands, this time we took a trip round the island to see some natural rock formations, the ostrich farm and the natural bridge...........amazing.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
This was ok but could have been better, we had applied for the Ezee baggage but were told that no international flights were being included for this but this wasn't so as we found out that another couple we met on the cruise who were also on the same flight home did get it. We did a disembarkation tour to Miami as we had a late flight which we enjoyed very much.
