Review summary

Great ship, great destinations, fantastic holiday. The whole experience on Britannia was totally positive. Beware the maritime phone networks. If you have a roaming plan from your network it doesn’t cover this so everything is chargeable and it’s not cheap.

Embarkation

No fuss, straight from the airport to ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All the venues were first class. Always tasty, well prepared hot food available with a great choice. In the restaurants there were daily specials that tempted the taste buds.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
I used the main pool on the Lido deck and found it to be one of the deepest pools I’d ever been in. There’s a children’s pool next to it but parents were allowing their young children to use the main pool, this stopped others from actually swimming and caused a few problems. Perhaps stopping this would improve matters.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Great variety of evening shows and sail away parties. The Cuban comedian was so funny, especially in his late show. The entertainment team worked hard and gave their all. Neil, the manager, always gave a great performance at the sail aways which, together with his team, was a great spectacle. Loved it.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone we spoke to had a ‘ how can I help you’ attitude, always positive and professional. Just a pleasure to deal with. Nothing was to much trouble.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ships cleanliness was great with a strong emphasis on hygiene. One thing I would suggest though is putting napkins next to the serving utensils in the self service cafe and using them when self serving food. I think there should be more litter bins around the ship though which would go some way to stop people just leaving rubbish next to their sun beds and chairs. Never had a problem accessing the lifts although it does take some time to familiarise yourself with the ship due to its size. The ship was constantly being cleaned which was great to see.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Our cabins design was excellent with everything as it should be. The shower was amazing, always hot and powerful. The steward, Samsy, was first class keeping it fresh and clean and he always had a smile on his face and had time for a quick chat. The balcony was ok having a table and two sunloungers. All in all I thought the designers used the available space very effectively. The bed was comfy but I would suggest that there should be a sheet as well as a duvet as the room was very warm, even with the air con on. That said the air con worked very well although I think it should have a cut out on it if the balcony door is opened. The only problem I had was that the soundproofing between cabins wasn’t that good and when one of the neighbours put the tv on it could be heard loudly in our cabin. Perhaps the default sound setting should be lower when it is first switched on.

Ship tip

Be patient and explore the ship to get your bearings

Ports of call

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

4 out of 5
Still has signs of past hurricanes but a lovely island nonetheless. Went to the airport to watch the aircraft coming in but found it nothing like I had seen on YouTube videos. Lanzarote airport offers a far better experience if you want to be close to the landing aircraft. Found it strange that one of our mobile phone networks allowed the same usage as if we were at home but the other one didn’t.

St. John's, Antigua

What a lovely island. Take a taxi tour and see all the site’s. so laid back. Nelsons dockyard was such a lovely place with historical buildings and an amazing setting.

Roseau, Dominica

Another lovely island. Get into the rainforest and see the waterfalls. Stop at a roadside bar and sample the rum punches.

Bridgetown, Barbados

A busy place. Have a tour round the island and then get to. Carlyle beach. We went to the Copacabana section. Two loungers, a parasol 15 dollars each or take the deal of the same for 50 dollars which gives you 40 dollars to spend at the bar. Not cheap but good value.

Willemstad, Curacao

5 out of 5
Just loved the place. Busy and bustling. Book a tour at the quayside and see the island. Visit the Curacao distillery and sample the liquor. A great day out.

Oranjestad, Aruba

Love Aruba as had a great holiday there a few years ago. Get to Eagle beach a short distance from the ports. It’s said to be one of the worlds best beaches, and I can’t argue with that. Don’t get a taxi as it will cost you 25 dollars each way, use the local small buses and it will cost 2 dollars per person each way, and you get to meet the locals.

St. George's, Grenada

5 out of 5
My favourite island of the lot. It has everything. Forests, beaches great people and rum punches. Used a local taxi for a tour and the guy was so informative and friendly. Took us to all the sites and explained everything.

Fort-De-France, Martinique

4 out of 5
Lovely place and once again a great tour by local taxi. Fantastic beaches just like you imaging them to be in the Caribbean.

Disembarkation

Great from the ship but once at the airport, St Lucia, massive queues and very few staff. One person on official passport desk and was struggling to cope. Should really have more staff on.
