Review summary

Although quite hot most of our journey, we did NOT have to deal with rain. Enjoyed the food and architecture. Would love to spend some more time in Spain. Very friendly and clean. The views are spectacular. Our third-party tours were much better experiences than those previously booked through the cruise line.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Unfortunately, we embarked on the day of the Microsoft problem. Other than the long lines, all went well.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Many items were a bit under seasoned for my liking.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The pools felt overcrowded, which wasn't a surprise. The fitness center was in good shape.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Most of the stage shows were excellent. There were a LOT of quizzes throughout the trip. But people were certainly drawn to them!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All were very eager to take care of us.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
If I were to criticize one thing, it would be that the aft elevators and stairwells were too far forward. A little difficult to change this now!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
It worked well for the two of us.

Ship tip

If lots of walking is difficult for you, avoid staterooms at the back of the ship.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

London was crazy busy. We took the train in and out of the city from LHR. Booked a tour on the Grayline HOHO bus. Our experience was not that great.

Cadiz (Seville), Spain

5 out of 5
Lovely little city. Only wish we could have spent more time there. Easy to walk from the port. Great food.

Cagliari, Sardinia

4 out of 5
We booked a third-party, private excursion. It was excellent! It was quite warm. Surprised by the amount of graffiti.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Took a shuttle to and from the port to the train station. Seemed a bit overpriced and they only took cash. The train into Rome was nice. Booked a tour on a Grayline HOHO bus. The tour was fine but finding the pickup point was difficult. Fortunately, there were a lot of tour employees along the way to point us in the right direction. Was VERY hot.

Villefranche-Sur-Mer, France

5 out of 5
Booked a third-party, small group tour. Again, a good experience. The south of France is quite beautiful, Eze in particular.

Barcelona, Spain

Renowned for its pick-pocketers, my wife was a bit freaked out. So, we took a cab to the cathedral instead of walking. And we took a cab on the way back. Once we had a guy "checking us out" but we were on high alert, and he backed off. Otherwise, a very clean but busy city.

Lisbon, Portugal

4 out of 5
We booked a third-party, private excursion on a Tuk Tuk. There are literally hundreds of them! Our guide did a wonderful job customizing the tour to our interests. A beautiful but quite busy city.

Vigo, Spain

5 out of 5
We walked everywhere. LOTS of shopping. High end, too. I was surprised at how large the city seemed to be for such a small port. The seafood was awesome. Best octopus I've ever had!

Disembarkation

Loved the new method used. The ques were VERY manageable.
