Review summary

If you like to sail, this is a good cruise. We enjoyed the time on the ship as much as the ports as we were traveling with friends. Many people relaxed with a book near a window in a lounge. We like to play cards as did many others. Not much to do for children , but there were a few.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We arrived early and everything went smoothly.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food was excellent, but we noticed a downgrade in the menus from previous HA cruises.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The highlight was the pianist, Hyperion Knight. The other shows were average at best.

Children's Programs

We had no children with us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our waiters and room steward were excellent!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Only complaint we had was the cigarette smoke in the Casino. Wish it could have been contained to one room instead of being open to the shops and lounges.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Would not recommend this room. We did have two large windows overlooking the bow, but the ceiling was slanted making it difficult to get around the bed. Closet space was also limited for the same reason. Will definitely go with the veranda next time.

Ship tip

Relax and enjoy!

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

4 out of 5
We found the excursions to be high priced for the value.

Ketchikan, Alaska

4 out of 5
We did no excursion here. Took advantage of the shopping.

Juneau, Alaska

3 out of 5
We went to Mendenhall Glacier via the excursion bus. It was $45 pp to ride the bus to the Forest Service Welcome Center and ride back. The local bus makes the same trip and is $3 each way. The Welcome Center was excellent.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

4 out of 5
We enjoyed learning about the community from the locals and watching the tribal dancing.

Anchorage, Alaska

3 out of 5
This was a shopping day.

Homer, Alaska

3 out of 5
Not much to do here.

Kodiak, Alaska Did not visit port

Bad weather kept us away from Kodiak.

Sitka, Alaska

5 out of 5
Sitka is a nice little town. We enjoyed the Sea Otter & Wildlife Quest excursion where we saw sea otters, humpback whales, and a brown bear salmon fishing. It was a Nat. Geo. Experience.

Victoria, British Columbia

5 out of 5
We took the city bus, rather than an excursion, to the Butchart Gardens where we had high tea in the tea room. Lovely! The gardens are exquisite. The bus ride is about an hour each way and just $5 for an all day ticket. This way we could be on our own time schedule. We are comfortable using public transportation and have done so all over the world.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
HA was very accommodating when we had to change our flights due to Hurricane Irma. They made all of the new arrangements for our luggage and it all went smoothly.

Sorry that you had bad weather in Kodiak. I was there three years ago & I rnmember it was pretty cold in August.
