Good Itinerary by vacationingcou

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The Itinerary was great for someone who loves the beach.  Lots of nice beaches.

The food was good although not enough variety or choices of different foods either in the buffet or the dining room.  The ship was nice and clean.

Great getaway! by rbarnes3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Great experience.  First time cruising.  We all enjoyed it.  Great balance of on ship time vs. ports.  Staff is very friendly and helpful.  Ports are a bit crowded once you get off but the excursions are fun and give you a flavor of the island.  Cabins are clean.  They're not large like a a hotel but there is enough room to move around and besides, you're not spending much time there.  Views on the ship are awesome and leaving the ports at evening time is a great way to spend "happy hour" on the deck.

Fun Time by juliewestphal6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We had a great time and will do another cruise in the future. We very much enjoyed the shows in the evenings. The food was good and our wait staff, Binu and Joel were wonderful to us. There were plenty of activities on board and yet we had lots of time to relax and wind down.

Great locations....ship needs work by trevirrimmer

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Great locations to see on this one...not one island I would never go back to for a trip...minus Puerto Rico...very expensive.  The Adventure of the Seas really needs work and Royal is pushing this ship to make it to the dry dock in the fall of 2016...hope it makes it...bad plumbing is one of the biggest issues.

but all in all...great cruise and I would do it again, and even the same ship after it gets some love.

Great Southern Caribbean Experience by CarlottaA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This was my second cruise on Adventure out of San Juan. The ports were excellent with many excursions to choose from. The ship is one of my favorites with the promenade deck, ice skating rink, and solarium pool. Food and service was excellent as usual. This ship is going into drydock for some refurbishing in the fall and should be better than ever.

Fabulous by Sharonf19

Loved this itinerary and the balcony cabin was wonderful. The staff was extremely accommodating. The food overall was good but the desserts left a lot to be desired.

The entertainment was also fun and done well.

Great cruise, lots of ports by Senior58

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This is a great cruise with a new port every day for 5 consecutive days leaving only one full sea day.  The ship is in good condition and has lots to offer as far as entertainment and activities.  We had a junior suite room which was very spacious and included a walk-in closet and a bathroom with a full size bathtub.  The balcony was also larger than we had imagined.  The only negatives would be the weather which was stormy, probably the time of year, and the main dining room food was good but not as good as previous cruises, and there was only one other dining choice.  We would definitely go again on this same cruise.  Very enjoyable.

Overall....average at best! by PSL

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We have cruised with RC many times and this particular ship before....noticed that the quality has gone down.  The food and amenities have declined. The servers in the dining room were great...the bar staff at the pool bar was terrible.  Knowing they have their gratuities built in to each order, seemed to lower the quality of their service and friendliness. The ship is showing its age and appears tired and in need of updating.  The ports of call were nice.  Overall I would say it was an average experience.  We will look to another cruise line or updated ship next time.

Cruise was great by jzedde

Cruise and ternary was great. Ship is showing it's age but crew was outstanding.  Food was not to the standard of cruises I have been on but it wasn't horrible.

Great time by ElyriaOhio

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Had a great time; ship is a little worn but comfortable. Food was good and island stops were great. Staff gave us some great tips. Entertainment was on the low end. We didn't go to any of the "headliners." Trivia was fun.

7 Night Southern Caribbean on Adventure of the Seas by gdmcgrath

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Enjoyed the cruise and destinations. Seems like the RCCL service has been reduced on this ship. Windjammer grill was not very good, nor was some of the bar service. Dining staff and state room attendant provided very good service. Ship was reasonably clean but in new of a update.

February 2016 cruise by weezer

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Seems the cruise line has reduced staff in the food area and bars. Service is not as good as in the past. They have also reduced their food events such as the one they used to have on deck at night.

Cruise and Ports were great by cjledbetter

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Had a great time on the Adventure of the Seas ship by Royal.  The ship was very nice.  Big, but not too big.  Staff in general were nice.  There were a couple of bartenders that were rude, but all and all everyone was great.  Our room attendant was terrific.  4 of the 5 ports were very nice.  I could have done without Grenada.  St Lucia was beautiful.  Disappointed in St. Thomas.  Downtown closes early on Sunday.  We were not notified of this until after we made plans to go to the beach.  We wanted to go to a certain beach, but bus driver talked us into another.  It was nice, but wishing I would have stuck to what I wanted to do.  Antigua has beaches that reminded me of Bora Bora.  But beware of the people.  VERY PUSHY and aggressive...!!!  Looking forward to booking another..

We think RCCL did a great thing with the promenade.  Lovely living room, mall, and great gathering place.  We love the ice show.  Look forward to it each time.

Royal Caribbean cruise line nickle-dimes you to death! by keynotez88

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We were checking in with all paperwork previously completed on-line. We had two cabins booked and a 6:00 dining time chosen for both cabins. As a family, we expected to be seated at the same table. They had us at two different ones. We were told we would have to speak to the dining manager to correct this. The first evening we arrived at dinner there was a line of about 15 people with the same problem. It took us over a half an hour to get seated! We were seated at a supposed "temporary" table but would be advised the next day where we would be sitting. It ended up we remained at that table for the rest of the week. Then to add insult to injury, they gave us room cards with the wrong deck on two of them. It took us way too long to get through the boarding process. When we finally got to our room we realized that my mom's luggage was at her cabin door but ours was not in front of our door. In looking around we saw that our luggage was down the hall in front of someone else's door with the wrong cabin number on the tag.

After being on several cruises we are used to the staff going above and beyond to attend to our needs. We used to tip based on the service afforded to us. Now we are charged $12.95 per person, per day for gratuities. Therefore, whether or not the staff does a great job for you, they all get tipped the same. Furthermore, who knows if the complete tip goes to the staff or some of it to Royal Caribbean. Our room attendant was lovely and did a great job. However, at the Windjammer buffet in the morning you were never sure if you had to get your own coffee or someone might eventually get to your table to offer it to you. The wine steward never visited our table nor did the head waiter. I believe that the lack of service stems from the fact that they don't have to worry about their tip since it is automatically charged to your room! No need to go above and beyond any longer. At dinner Natasha, our waitress, and Gumilar, her assistant, were terrific. They always had a smile and offered terrific service, including a run-down of the evenings attractions and information on the following day's port. The dinner menu was somewhat limited and it seemed we saw pretty much the same items each night. The food was okay but not as terrific as I remember. I ordered a scallop appetizer and have never seen bay scallops as small as teeth!

Wifi is $20.00 per device per day which I find ridiculous. At all the expensive hotels we ever stayed at, wifi was free! I went to the buffet breakfast one morning and saw a sign for fresh squeezed orange juice and was about to get some for my husband when I saw a sign, $3.50 per glass! Again, ridiculous. If you go to any of the other restaurants on board there is an upcharge. For instance Giovanni's is $30.00 per person. Haven't I already paid enough for the cruise? Greatfully all sports activities were included, such as rock climbing wall, ice skating, basketball, mini golf and in-line skating. However even though we showed notarized proof that we had the authorization to sign a waiver for our grandsons to participate in these sports, each one required a separate waiver which I also find ridiculous. Every time thy wanted to do something they had to try to find us and waste their precious vacation time as well as ours to go sign the waiver.  Once I went to the in-line skating track to sign and found that there were specific hours to do so. This did not happen to be the correct time. Consequently they never did the in-line skating. Why not have us sign one waiver for ALL the activities and hand it in upon registration???

I asked the service desk if I could use a computer to print our boarding passes for the next day. I was told I had to rent one for $10.00 per half hour!! Again I was being nickel dimed. Most upscale hotels allow use of computers at no charge.

We had a voucher for a free facial or massage. I sent mom for a facial and found out later that they charged our room for the tip. Isn't that included in our daily charges? Entered a raffle for free spa services. Supposedly won teeth whitening but when they called they said I only won 20% off! No way did I take them up on the offer. More way to squeeze money from me.

Shows were great. Teen club offered plenty of activities to keep them busy however my comment here is that sometimes their activities conflicted with shows that they might like to have seen with us, specifically the balancing act on the last night.

Piano bar entertainer, David was terrific. He kept the audience involved and was quite comical.

Overall the cruise was good but not to the standard I remember it being on other cruises. Not sure I would travel Royal Caribbean again. Will have to research the others to determine if they also charge additionally for everything.

Can not beat the Southern Caribbean Ports by masnydersbcglobalnet

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

All but 1 Ports of Call were beautiful & loaded with things to do.  The beaches had crystal clear waters & silky white sand.  We did have a couple passing showers, but the weather was hot & sunny 98% of the time; which is what we were looking for to escape our northern US winter.  It is almost a guarantee that the southern caribbean will have hot sunny weather all the time.  The ship was clean, but in need of the updates that are scheduled for this October.  The food was alittle disappointing, not as good as we have had in the past. But we mostly cruise for the islands, so food is not our first priority.  Entertainment was OK, Game Shows & Contests were fun due to enthusiastic Cruise Director & Staff.  We booked same ship for next year already! Can't Wait!!!Wink

Had a Great Time! by pfontes

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We had a great time on our cruise.  The ship itself is nicely maintained, every crew member we encountered was unfailingly polite and accommodating.  The production shows and the ice show were good.  The 70's disco show in the Promenade was fabulous.  We had excellent waiters in the Strauss Dining Room.  Most of the ports of call were very nice - the only exception being Martinique.  While most of the islands that we visited are not wealthy, all of them with the exception of Martinique, made a point of having a port that was clean and inviting.  Martinique's cruise port was grimy, smelly (think raw sewage) and unattractive.

My only complaint about the ship is that although RCI has a policy of removing items from deck chairs if the chairs have been unattended for 30 minutes, it is not enforced.  We became quite frustrated at seeing deck chair after deck chair with a towel thrown over - and no one in sight.  I really wish that RCI would either enforce their own rule - or get rid of it so that those of us who are naive enough to actually play by the rules will know where we stand!

Despite Martinique and deck chair issues,  we had a great time and would love to do it all over again!

Far from bad - Far from great by counselor39

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Adventure of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Ok, guys - here goes.

I am a long time cruiser. Many ships - many cruise lines.

This cruise was not my first choice, as my previous experiences with RC were unexceptional. RC is better than Princess and Carnival, but a far cry from Holland.

I chose this cruise because I liked the itinerary. Had Holland or Celebrity had anything close in the way of Itinerary, I'd not have taken this cruise.

1. The Ship: GORGEOUS. BEAUTIFUL.

2. Service: They try ...maybe even hard, but, for whatever reason, no one seems to effortlessly make you feel like a king the way Holland does.

NO chocolates on the pillow; NO shampoos, lotions, etc. in the staterooms.....small things, but it shows. NO bathrobes unless you're in their elite (ALL things that Holland provides). Any problems I found on board as to service, in all fairness, WAS taken care of by the crew, but Holland and Celebrity take care of it BEFORE it becomes an issue.

I did NOT like, ONE BIT, that half of the hand sanitizer machines were always inoperable. With Norovirus and now Zika, THAT is simply unacceptable.

FOOD: Acceptable and "good"...but NOT in the class of Holland....not even close. Late night choices were extremely limited.

Salesmanship: Sorry, guys, but I have NEVER seen a staff more high pressure than these guys. It made one feel more like a "mark" than a passenger.

Internet: EXACTLY twice the price of Holland.

It seems to me that what was lacking, lacks from the home office and the staff does the best they can with the tools they are given. With a GORGEOUS ship like this, if the service and amenities can match the ship, you'd have rated much higher in my book.
