Lovely, relaxing, delicious, and with exciting excursions in Alaska. by minitaur1

I enjoyed privately relaxing and enjoying the view via our balcony, while my husband enjoyed roaming the ship and exploring. We shared many lovely meals and met friendly people. Wonderful.

Wonderful Alaskan Cruise by hpa362

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Noordam

It was a great experience! The ship may not be the newest and coolest of decor, and caters to an older crowd, but the port itinerary was exceptional and it made for a very relaxing vacation! Ship days were content by just sitting on the balcony and watch the gorgeous scenery go by. Never a bad view outside!

My mother broke her wrist on this cruise and the way we were treated was horrific. by ariannea

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Eurodam

On our second full day on the cruise, and our first day in port in Alaska, my mom fell down the stairs of the Eurodam. The stairway was crowded with children and other people going up and down the stairs, which were very narrow - due to the congestion my mother was forced to momentarily let go of the handrail and fell down almost the full set of stairs from the 3rd to the second floor. The nurse who came to gather us was quick, and the doctor was nice, and determined the wrist was broken. Because my mother is almost 80 years old, I wanted to take her to an actual hospital and have and MRI and other scans dome to make sure she was okay. She had a nasty gash on her face, and her glasses were broken in the fall. I was told that she just had the broken wrist, and was fine to stay on board the ship, though she shouldn't get off for any excursions or walk around too much. So....you want me keep her a prisoner in our tiny cabin?! I'm sorry, but that was an unacceptable suggestion. I was told by the gentlemen at the customer service desk that it's an issue with the Coast Guard if we disembark early - since this wasn't a "medical discharge." I'm sorry, but a 77-year-old woman just fell down the stairs. How in the world is this not a medical discharge. He called down to the ship clinic and was told by a nurse that "I didn't mention leaving the ship" so he didn't think this was medically necessary. First of all, I did talk to the doctor about wanting to leave the ship, and second of all, how the heck is that up to him?? Since it wasn't officially a "medical discharge" he told me the Coast Guard was going to fine me $1,000 per person for us leaving the cruise early. Let me be clear - the Coast Guard was going to fine Holland America $1k per person, which they were then going to pass along to us because someone at the customer service desk who spoke to someone in the medical clinic, who I'm not sure had even seen my mother, and between them they decided this wasn't medically necessary. Eventually I was put in touch with someone higher up who said she needed to escalate this - and then she called our room and basically told me that I wouldn't have to pay the $2,000 but I did need to be off the ship in the next 20 minutes. What a mess. Worst experience ever. I will never take another cruise as long as I live, and I will make sure to discourage everyone I come across to do the same.

We loved it, we had a great time and it was relaxing and so much fun. My sister and I shared a room and our brother and his wife were next door. Great way to travel as a family. My sister's first time to Alaska so it was fun seeing it through her eyes.

Beautiful scenery, meh cruise by WyoFam

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Volendam

Glad we did it for the scenery on a smaller ship and an inside cabin was perfect as our viewing was done elsewhere. Bring reading material. Have low expectations for entertainment, food, and dining service.

Nice experience but could have been better by pcepero22

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Quantum of the Seas

I know that an Alaskan cruise is hit or miss with the weather but if it is raining everyday, the views are not as spectacular as they can be. The Royal Caribbean app needs to be more user friendly as well. The structure of the activities needs to align better with the daily schedule of events and how passengers can book their activities. All in all, we made the best of it and spending time with the family is what we did and enjoyed every minute of our time together.

Expected More by stevenholl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sun

Flight cancellations to Seattle started the cruise off poorly. Norwegian’s travel desk was no help. Told us to contact airline ourselves and find a way to Seattle. Took several hours to finely get Delta to tell us they had no alternative. Norwegian travel desk then tells us to find another airline option. What is the travel service for if they are not going to assist with travel disruptions on travel they booked? Very Disappointed

We would definitely do another Alaskan cruise, Alaska was breath taking, just not on Holland America. And we would probably leave from Victoria BC.

First Time on Princess: Probably Never Again Especially on a Megaship by 1928DMT

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Discovery Princess

Princess Cruises is not truthful about the capacity of the ship. According to its website, the ship has 1,830 cabins and a 3,660 passenger capacity. That's totally misleading and that's why there's so much overcrowding in the dining areas and a lack of tables. The 3,660 was computed at two passengers per cabin but that's wrong, especially during holidays and summer vacation, when there are a lot of families onboard occupying three or four to a cabin. If experienced cruisers notice this, how much more should Princess Cruises, which is in the business of cruising, should know this. A simple calculation will tell you the actual passenger count could be close to 4,500 or even 5,000; thus the overcrowding. And be careful of the picture packages and digital copies sold by the Photo Gallery. The digital copies are only about 1MB big each and this resolution doesn't give good quality 10" X 10" or larger pictures. Problem is the staff doesn't tell you this. Princess cruises is not truthful.
