Review summary

Glad we did it for the scenery on a smaller ship and an inside cabin was perfect as our viewing was done elsewhere. Bring reading material. Have low expectations for entertainment, food, and dining service.

Embarkation

1 out of 5
Our time was 11 AM, too early as we wanted to continue sightseeing. We waited in rows of chairs butted right up against each other and waited to board. How is that healthy?

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
We previously sailed on HAL and thought the food was very good. This time it ranged from okay to inedible. The portions were large with dining room server food shaming for ordering less or not having dessert. We observed many people who enjoyed eating a lot of food.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Standard for a small ship, the scenery was great!

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Not much on offer and nothing like previous quality.

Children's Programs

No kids

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Room stewards were *****. The dining service in The Lido was bare bones and poor in the dining room. It was quite unpleasant.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Other than few outlets in the cabins, this ship does not show its age.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This is a great cabin for those prone to seasickness and/or light sleepers and a good location for dining, getting on and off, and the stairs.

Ship tip

The Crow’s Nest is the place to be on the Alaska cruise, especially for Glacier Bay National Park.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

Self-guided, Stanley Park is huge and lovely. Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge is free and public transit is easy ($6 pp rt). The Amtrack Cascade train hugs the coast from Vancouver to Seattle, beautiful 4 hour one-way trip for $30 pp.

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska

5 out of 5
No, it’s amazing how close you get to land on each side.

Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska

4 out of 5

Juneau, Alaska

4 out of 5
Juneau is a bit dodgy. We took the public bus to the Mendenhall Glacier ($4 pp er) and used our America the Beautiful pass.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Cute town, chill vibe.

Cruise Glacier Bay

5 out of 5

Ketchikan, Alaska

4 out of 5
Better than Juneau but really touristy and a little seedy, it rains a lot here.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Easy, dining room service was horrible as it was the staff’s last shift.
