Seventh Alaska cruise, smaller ships are your best bet by czar4254

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel

Overall, the cruise was excellent, good food, excellent crew, a few minor hassles, basically no waiting for elevators like you find on the larger ships

Great Scenery, mediocre cruise line by ChrisD741

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Encore

Overall, I was not impressed with Norwegian. Going in, I had plans to take advantage of booking another trip while on board because you save money, but I just don't see me going back to Norwegian. I was on a Carnival cruise and it was FAR SUPERIOR. Carnival has MORE and better shows. Instead of 1 main show, you saw 2 or 3 different shows on Carnival and they had each show at least twice a night. The theater was larger on Carnival so between the size and offering, anybody that wanted to see the shows could. Also there weren't other venues around distracting you from the show. You also had other venues that had comedians or bands or games or other entertainment. The comedy club on Carnival doubled as a place they gave presentations about the upcoming ports during the day. On Norwegian it was at the theater because that was the only venue that could hold a larger gathering. I did enjoy 3 of the specialty dining restaurants and it did seem easy enough to get in. I also liked the fact that you didn't have to eat at a certain time and your alcohol drink package wasn't limited to 15 drinks per day( although I don't remember coming close to that limit on Carnival) . You could also get 2 drinks at a time on 1 card(alcohol or non alcohol or combo) so you didn't need to worry about having wife's card to get her a drink. The place you could get food anytime was limited in offerings and NO PIZZA. Since the Encore is 1 of 2 Norwegian ships that sail Alaska, you would think there would be a retractable roof over the pool area. That way you could have music parties etc as well as swimming. The Haven area pool( for the really wealthy people) does have a retractable roof for their pool area, at least according to the giant model of the ship they have on board. If you moved dj parties, you could have a venue dedicated to the comedy shows at night. Maybe have more shows allowing more people the chance to experience them. The venues seemed small across the board which meant people couldn't always get in to see what they wanted. There were many different bars on board which may be why some of the venues were smaller.

Disappointed by jkleiber7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Bliss

Disappointed to miss two ports due to weather. Management did not handle it well, provided confusing credits that were not sufficiently explained to passengers.

Good! by tom8rown

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Zaandam

This was a fun time however we had issues with our room on the boat. Everything else was good. Lots of rain on this trip, but can’t complain! Really wish the room situation was a little better but foreseen and unplanned outside of staff was amazing. Everyone was very nice and accommodating.

Terrible!!!! Will not sail on NCL again. Will be researching other cruise lines itineraries by smt89400844

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel

You should reevaluate this ship and especially the security who seem to be bloated with power We had a lovely day with an excursion that canoed us and hiked us to a private land and a glacier that had beautiful rocks and shells with education as we searched for souvenir unusual rock to take home. On arrival the security staff removed the two rocks were ruse and wouldn’t explain why they confiscated the rocks except to say they weren’t sterile. Some people should not be given power, they are dangerous especially if they have low IQ’s

Underwhelming at best by tamatha223

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Jewel

We won't be cruising NCL again unless it's the only option for a destination in which we are interested. My husband and I played cards in our room when we weren't spending time disappointed with the food or entertainment/activities. Overall just disappointed in the cruise line.

Wonderful, fantastic, amazing by kathryn457

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Majestic Princess

Overall was a great first cruise experience, and I would definitely go again. From my understanding of cruise ships, this one is considered a "smaller" boat, so you can definitely feel the waves especially when it's stormy, but it did not feel over crowded, and there were not many kids, so if you aren't bothered by the rockiness of the waves I would recommend this cruise.

Very Nice Alaskan Cruise - Lots to Learn for a First Time Cruiser by kellymoncrief

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Discovery Princess

Very nice experience. Great balance of sea-days vs port days. Evening entertainment was great and good music and activities in community areas. Lots to learn as a first time cruiser though and it was a bit overwhelming; we missed out on a few things due to not knowing but I imagine it gets easier the more cruises you do.

Great trip by marmadme

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ovation of the Seas

This is the second cruise we’ve taken to Alaska. The first one was 20 years ago and it was taken in July. Although we did not see much wildlife, the cruise was very relaxing and we would definitely recommend it to everyone.

Awesome Alaska! by Robbie500

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Edge

We totally enjoyed this cruise! The ship is beautiful and new. The staff was welcoming and most we talked to had years of experience with Celebrity. Our cabin steward has over ten years with Celebrity! The infinite veranda is a great way to see Alaska! Do not try to do this trip on the cheap! We did as much as we could financially afford as this was possibly a once in a lifetime trip for us. Get out and meet the locals. Take time to chat with your crew! Your trip is about the experience. Get out there!!!

Terrible by bbyacedj

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Quantum of the Seas

They heated refrigerated meds, someone shaved in my room while I was gone, mattress was shot, food at wonderland, windjammer and main dining was pitiful, windjammer cold and old tasting, guest services were very rude and unhelpful, I got charged for things I didn't purchase, wifi didn't work, rc app messenger was 4 hours delayed and no cruise planner, security when coming back on bord were very nasty to everyone. Didn't get things I paid for without a fight. Chose another cruise line.

The embarkation was the best we ever had. We never stopped walking or had to take a seat. Our rooms were great. The balconies were perfect. Our room stewards were wonderful. The activities were amazing and all the staff who ran them were kind and helpful. Dinners were perfect with wonderful wait staff and some delicious meals. We had a wonderful time with family.
