Darwin, Australia overview

Levelled by a cyclone in 1974, Darwin has rebuilt itself from scratch. Wide tree-lined streets, well-designed public buildings, and acres of park land make this an ideal tropical capital. The attitude of the locals is casual and relaxed, and the young demographic keeps things moving. Darwin's location makes it the ideal jump-off point for sojourns into Australia's natural splendour.

We lost a day there in travel time on the boat due to issues with passenger illness. We just did the city walk around which was no big deal. They push you to buy bus tickets to get to the city center which takes about 10 minutes to drive but fail to tell you if you walk off the boat and go to the right, you can actually walk to the fun stuff in 5 minutes. I would not do a bus there unless your trying to get somewhere far away.

Great port. Walk straight off the ship and into town. Stop off at the World War II tunnels and experience how Darwin suffered more than Pearl Harbor at that time. Lots of modern shops with plenty of free Wi-Fi. Visit the Esplanade which is virtually adjacent to the ship and treat yourself to some fresh fish at the oyster bar which is very good. Okay so it’s going to be hot but you knew that anyway so dress accordingly with plenty of sunscreen and water!

Wonderful city !! We took the big red bus which is fantastic- we were able to see the military museum ( definitely need more than a few hours ) National arts museum and Crockasaurus!! We were dropped off at the wharf and had the most amazing oysters and Barramundi EVER !! We have fallen for this city !!

Amazing place, a must is the flying Doctor and WW2 exhibits, we were blown away with the virtual reality exhibit. It's just near the ship berth. A must!!
