Review summary

Fun trip and happy we did the itinerary. Would stay away from the premium internet as it’s an unneeded expense from my stand point.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
My embarkation experience was a good one since we were Haven passangers. We were ussured through a large number of people who were waiting to board the ship. The process was not seemless but was pretty quick. I was a little taken aback that the rest of the passengers were allowed to checkin to board the board at around 11am for a 5-6pm departure. Instead of letting those individuals on the boat, they were all seated in a large crowded room waiting to board. Many were not happy we were ussured through the crowd for entry to the boat.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food and drink was very good. We did 16 of 19 nights in specialty dining and give a special shout out to the staff of Carney’s and Modernos. As for drinks, the guys in Bliss Lounge were very friendly and never missed a spot on margarita.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The ship was an older one so the activities were pretty much they usual. Being a daily gym goer, were were more than satisfied with the facilities.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The nightly shows were entertaining but were a little on the low end. The standouts I would say were the Bali dancers who came on board while we were in Benoa port.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Cangeys, Modernos, La Cuncina, Bliss, and our butler Dillip were wonderful and made for a great time.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Older boat so spaces were a little more cramped than the newer boats do to shear size. They worked hard to keep the cleanliness at a high level and I commend them for that.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Comfortable but smaller than expected from the online videos. There is a huge balcony associated with the room but you are directly below the staff. Driving the boat so eyes are always on you while outside. I would have chosen a different room but it’s functional.

Ship tip

Biggest complaint is the internet onboard. We purchased the “premium package” which was 24.99 daily each for 19 days because we were supposed to be able to stream movies and have a high level of functionality. That was not the case as we could never stream a movie without stoppage within the first few minutes in our cabin. I did speed test from our cabin and never got a download speed above 1MB. I complained but did not get very far with it. I would not suggest spending the money as you will be frustrated. I will just get enough functionality to get email and us What’s App in the future.

Ports of call

Sydney, Australia

Love it, it’s Sydney

Newcastle, Australia

2 out of 5
Nothing special at all and would have been better staying on the boat

Brisbane, Australia

We did the koala sanctuary and had a great time. Koala photos are hard to get because of crowds. We spend the time in the fields with the emus and kangaroos. A lot of fun.

Airlie Beach, Queensland, Australia

Just ok in the town.

Cairns, Australia

Did the reef snorkeling and had a great time, Reccomend this for sure. Water a little more murky than I thought but a good experience. Also did the train and koala photos at the sanctuary up there. Windy day so gondola was not running although the pier in Cairns sold us tickets for it and they knew it wasn’t running. Be careful here as it had tons of us late for the boat and boat was late dparting by a few hours

Darwin, Australia

We lost a day there in travel time on the boat due to issues with passenger illness. We just did the city walk around which was no big deal. They push you to buy bus tickets to get to the city center which takes about 10 minutes to drive but fail to tell you if you walk off the boat and go to the right, you can actually walk to the fun stuff in 5 minutes. I would not do a bus there unless your trying to get somewhere far away.

Komodo Island, Indonesia

3 out of 5
Fun, hot, walk more than expected with a lot of steep uphill and downhill. Fine for us but we spent a lot of time helping the elderly navigate what they had signed up for. Saw few dragons and seemed like they were in predetermined spots as opposed to “in the wild”

Benoa, Bali, Indonesia

Awesome culture loved the Udon temple.

Semarang, Java, Indonesia

4 out of 5
Don’t miss Borador Temple. Well worth the time and money spent.

Singapore

4 out of 5
Stayed here a few days before traveling to Sydney for the cruise. Lots of fun and reccomend the botanical gardens in Marina Bay.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
You have to go through imigration getting off boat in Singapore and we had two ships unloading at the same time so it was slow. Not Norwegians faulty as they ran the process very well.
