Puerto Limon is a big NOTHING!!! There is a nice building with vendors for T-shirts and some other touristy items but that's it. This port was developed in the late 1800's to build a railroad across Costa Rica. It was replaced by the Panama Canal. Most of Costa Rica's culture and economy are on the Pacific side - NOT the Atlantic side.

Again, had researched and knew the price of taxis to pay to visit Playa Bonita. Went up the street to the grocery store and got a taxi for $13 for two round trip. Right by the ship they said $10 per person each way. Quite a difference. Playa Bonita is a nice beach for a swim. Nobody tried selling us anything, which was a nice change.

Took a ship excursion but think I would do private next time and it was too herded and not enough time to explore.

We went to the little port market. Unless one takes an excurion into the rainforest, there really isn't a whole lot to do in Limon, which is rather sketchy.

took the banana train tour. interesting but very rocking ride with small hard bench seats.

Excursion to the rain forest (the shorter duration trip). Rain forest was excellent. Drive to and from shows off the local area and wasn't bad. It is rural and not a lot to see but the guide did stop to show us sloath and birds and local things. The shopping at the port wasn't bad. Really nowhere else to shop.

Our initial tour was cancelled (monster bus), so we opted for the boat and train. Nice tour and knowledge guide (Jonathan).
